International superstar surprises fans during friend's Outside Lands set

Gen-Z pop sensation Role Model stunned San Francisco fans with a surprise guest during his performance on the first day of San Francisco's Outside Lands. Australian singer and actor Troye Sivan ran onto the festival's Sutro stage to join Role Model on Friday, Aug. 8, and was immediately met with cheers from the packed audience of 20-somethings. The 'Rush' artist danced and leapt around the stage before hugging the singer, whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury. Sivan then lifted up his striped shirt and shook his hips for the audience for the duration of the song's bridge. Sivan's surprise appearance during the set was only the latest in a string of cameos that Role Model has highlighted toward the end of his shows. Coinciding with his 2024 hit, 'Sally When the Wine Runs Out,' the pop star repeatedly yells 'Where's my Sally?' before his guest — often a celebrity or excited audience member — joins him onstage. Role Model has welcomed everyone from actor Natalie Portman and comedian Bowen Yang to his own mother during performances of the song. His nearly hour-long set on Friday also included a cover of Outside Lands 2023 headliner the 1975's song 'Somebody Else' and a slew of hits from his 2024 sophomore album, 'Kansas Anymore.'

Haunted by landslides and wild animals, Mundakkai farmers await delayed rehabilitation

MUNDAKKAI : Dilapidated buildings, an abandoned church, crumbling workers' lanes, a damaged mosque and mangled remains of vehicles... The plantation area of Mundakkai wears a deserted look. Indicating the constant presence of wild animals, elephant dung is seen all over the road from Chooralmala Bailey bridge to Mundakkai. The water in the river has turned muddy due to incessant rain and the flow has increased compared to the previous day. While boulders are seen scattered on the river bed from Punchirimattam to Chooralmala, the rocks have been cleared in the downstream areas of the Bailey bridge. The tea factory at Mundakkai is the only place with human presence. On Vellarmala School Road two elderly farmers—Thankachan and Sivan— were seen trudging their way through the muddy road to Chooralmala. 'We both have one-acre farmlands in the upper reaches of the road. As there is no human presence, wild boars and elephants are destroying our cardamom and pepper crops. We have been living in rented houses at Chunkathara near Kalpetta since the landslide. We have to spend Rs 150 per day to visit the farmlands. And it is difficult to get passes from village office to enter the area. So we stay in a shed at the farmland from Monday to Friday, ' said Sivan. The demarcation of red zone by the John Mathai Committee has landed the farmers in a quandary as they will not get houses at the rehabilitation township and will have to return to their land soon. 'The farmers are not willing to return to the hamlets as they fear there will be more landslides in future. The slopes of the Vellarimala hills have weakened and the loose soil may trigger a devastating debris flow. Besides, elephants are roaming the area and it will be tough for farmers to survive here, ' said ward member N P Sukumaran. While Sukumaran, who was running a spices shop at Chooralmala, lost his shop and spices worth J60 lakh, many farmers and traders were reduced to penury by the disaster. Seventy-year-old Annayya, who owned two acres of farmland near Vellarmala village office is driving an autorickshaw at Meppadi now. 'I used to get an income of J25 lakh a year from my farmland where I cultivated cardamom, pepper, coffee and arecanut. The landslide devastated my house and farmland and we stay in a rented house now. I earn a meagre amount of J300 per day,' he said.

'Kareena Kapoor was unavailable while shooting the war in 'Asoka', people producing the film asked me why do I want to make the film where...,' says Santosh Sivan as he opens up on the Shah Rukh Khan starrer

Shah Rukh Khan 's 'Asoka' was not a box office success, however over the years, the film is remembered for its iconic music and unique content. It was cinematographer Santosh Sivan 's directorial debut. While the film got its share of flak, in a recent interview, Sivan has opened up on the troubles during the making of the film. He also added that people producing it, told him why is he making such a film where nobody is winning the war. He said on a Youtube channel, 'When I was gearing up to make Asoka, I was asked by the people producing it, 'Why do you want to make a film where no one wins the war? If I am watching a war film between the Germans and the English, I would want the English to win. Someone has to be winning.' You can't make a film where no one wins, it's a draw, or there's no outcome.' He went on to say that many discouraged him from making the film, citing its lack of conventional commercial appeal. But Sivan saw something deeper in the narrative. 'I thought that the story was very interesting. I also wanted to take Asoka and split him into someone who's very romantic, especially when there's a monsoon and it's misty,' he said, painting a picture of the Emperor as both a warrior and a man of emotion. 'Kareena was not available when we were shooting the war. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo So, I had to shoot most of it in Film City. All those things happened. You have to adjust and, of course, try to work it out,' Sivan shared. In the film, Shah Rukh Khan took on the titular role of Asoka, the third ruler of the Mauryan dynasty—portrayed as a fierce warrior transformed by the horrors of war into a proponent of peace and Buddhism. Kareena Kapoor played Karuvaki, the enigmatic second queen consort of the emperor. The cast also featured a strong ensemble including Danny Denzongpa, Rahul Dev, Hrishitaa Bhatt, Gerson Da Cunha, Subhashini Ali, and Umesh Mehra. Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar made a brief but notable appearance. While the film may not have reached the monumental status some expected, its artistry—guided by Sivan's own lens—left an indelible mark. With editing by A. Sreekar Prasad, music by Anu Malik, and a haunting background score from Sandeep Chowta, Asoka remains a visual and emotional artifact from early 2000s Bollywood—bold, imperfect, and unforgettable.

Dressers Sold by Wayfair and Amazon Are Being Recalled—See If Yours is Among Them

Product recalls can be alarming, but try not to panic every time you see one pop up. They're usually a company being cautious—and that's a good thing. And then other times it's because a product has proven to be not as safe in practice as it was in conception. It's definitely smart to stay informed (especially if it's something you use daily), but many recalls are low-risk. Check the details, see if it affects you and, if it does, follow the steps to return, replace or destroy it. Case in point: If you own a Sivan Six-Drawer Double Dresser, there's a recall you should know about. These dressers can tip over if they're not anchored to the wall, posing a serious risk to kids. They don't meet the safety standards set by the STURDY Act, both in stability and to the recall, this particular six-drawer double dresser measures approximately 31 inches tall, 47 inches wide and 16 inches deep with a model number of Y-C51. If you have one, stop using it unless it's anchored and contact the company for a refund. The recall was issued on May 22, 2025, and affects about 170 units. Anji Guyou Furniture, the brand behind the Sivan dressers, as well as Wayfair (where it was sold), are reaching out to all known purchasers directly. Customers must email a photo showing disposal of the product to guyouproductrecall@ in order to get their refund. In addition to this model, there's yet another dresser recall happening. The Rolanstar 6-Drawer Dresser, sold on Amazon, is being recalled due to similar safety concerns as the above-mentioned Sivan. The dresser can tip over if it's not anchored to the wall, creating a serious risk of injury or even death to children. About 1,293 units are affected; if you own one, stop using it unless it's secured and reach out for a refund. You can call Areson toll-free at 888-864-7995 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. PT Monday through Friday or email them at Support@ There's also the option to go to or and click "Recall" at the top of the page for more more specifics on the Rolanstar dresser, they measure about 15 x 16 x 33-inches and were sold in the color black. Look for model number DC006-BK130-1-RR on the product packaging. So far no incidents or injuries have been reported for either dresser, but it's better to take precautions Sold by Wayfair and Amazon Are Being Recalled—See If Yours is Among Them first appeared on Parade Home & Garden on May 23, 2025
