Sixers legend reveals old training camp story about Joel Embiid
Sixers legend reveals old training camp story about Joel Embiid Philadelphia 76ers superstar big man Joel Embiid is dealing with a lot at the moment. The 2023 MVP winner is dealing with a bothersome left knee injury that required a second surgery in 14 months. He played only 19 games in the 2024-25 season as he is dealing with a ton of adversity. The Sixers have always been careful when it comes to Embiid. He has always been on a load management type of plan. They will go as far as he takes them so he needs to be at his best which means he has to take some days off. With that being said, Sixers legend Charles Barkley hopped on "The Mike Missanelli Show" and gave a not-so-inspiring training camp story about Embiid. He and another franchise legend, Billy Cunningham, attended camp and didn't like what he saw: This was like the first day of training camp, because, you know, in the old days we do two-a-days. We didn't care who the hell you were. You were going to practice twice a day. We went to the Sixers' facility, and they started to scrimmage, and Joel goes to sit down instead of scrimmaging, and Billy says, 'We got to go.' I go, 'Billy, we just got here.' He says 'The best player on their team when they started scrimmaging, went and sat down.' This is like, probably five years ago. He says, 'This team is never going to be successful. Your best player has to set the tone.' He says, 'This is the first day of training camp.' Now, if we had been a week or two in a week or whatever. Yeah, you know what? You don't want to run your best player in the ground, but this was the first day of training camp, and when they started the scrimmage, he went and sat down. Brett said, 'Hey, let's scrimmage,' and Joel went to sit down. Embiid, for now, has to be able to focus on his rehab. The expectation is that Philadelphia will have him for opening night in October and the hope is he can get back to being that dominant player he once was out on the floor.

Sixers' Quentin Grimes has important message for NBA about the Finals
Sixers' Quentin Grimes has important message for NBA about the Finals The NBA Finals got underway on Thursday night as the Indiana Pacers and the Oklahoma City Thunder began a battle to decide the 2025 NBA champions. The stage was set as both teams look to win their franchise's first ever championship and the court with YouTube TV ads. There was not much NBA Finals signage other than an imprint of the Larry O'Brien trophy being on the basket stanchion, but that was all. No special Finals script on the court. No specialty added to the Paycom Center to signal that this game means more. This is for the championship and the court appeared to look like it was a random Tuesday night game in January. Philadelphia 76ers guard Quentin Grimes, as well as the rest of the NBA watching world, took to Twitter to send a message to the league about the lack of finals signage on the court. Grimes is 100% right. The league has to do something to make the Finals feel as special as it ought to. There needs to be more signage and a change to the court or something in order to take it all to another level as it had been in the past. As for Grimes' current free agency status, the Sixers will look to bring back the restricted free agent after he performed well in 28 games for Philadelphia. He averaged 21.9 points after the Sixers acquired him from the Dallas Mavericks at the February trade deadline.

Sixers' Jared McCain goes crazy reacting to Tyrese Haliburton's shot
Sixers' Jared McCain goes crazy reacting to Tyrese Haliburton's shot The Indiana Pacers did it again on Thursday night as they continued their incredible run in these playoffs. Trailing the Oklahoma City Thunder by 15 in the fourth quarter of Game 1 of the NBA Finals on the road, the Pacers once again dug deep and rallied to win it 111-110 thanks to the heroics of Tyrese Haliburton. Haliburton pulled up for a mid-range jumper and drilled it with 0.3 seconds left to give Indiana its only lead on the night. The win was the fifth for the Pacers when trailing by 15-plus in this postseason and they are now three wins away from the franchise's first NBA title. Philadelphia 76ers rookie Jared McCain served as a player correspondent for Game 1 of the finals and he had a crazy reaction to Haliburton's shot. Quite honestly, the Sixers guard probably had a similar reaction to all of Indiana. Haliburton and the Pacers will look for a 2-0 series lead before the series shifts to Indianapolis. The Thunder have been the best team in the league all season so it will be interesting to see how they bounce back in Game 2 on Sunday.

Sixers' Paul George has advice for Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards
Sixers' Paul George has advice for Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards The game of basketball is all about progression and development. In order to be a star in this league, one has to keep growing and take steps forward in his game to be at that next level. That is the challenge for Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards. After a blowout loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals, Edwards and the Wolves are in the same position they were in 2024 when they were blown out in Game 5 by the Dallas Mavericks. Edwards had some big moments against the Thunder--most notably the Game 3 win--but his scoring average of 23.0 points in the series combined with his 28.2% 3-point percentage left a lot to be desired. Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George offered up some advice to Edwards as he continues with his career. On the latest episode of "Podcast P with Paul George": I think Ant's gotta get better at he's gotta develop a post game. Where he can let the game slow down, where he can get to one dribble and raise up and shoot, and I think that helps a player get into a rhythm a lot better, where he starts closer and he doesn't have to worry about bringing two defenders to the ball to try to get free, get to an elbow, get to the mid post, where you can see the whole floor, and play from there. So I think that's the next evolution for Ant. Edwards is only 23 years old. One has to believe that he is going to continue taking these steps forward as a superstar and develop into one of the best players the league has seen. As for George and the Sixers, they will be looking to get healthy and capitalize on the talent they possess after a miserable 2024-25 season.
