From 25kg bags of dog food to top up treats, Petshop Science is enlisting Sixty60 to handle the heavy lifting, providing fast, reliable deliveries of everything that busy pet parents need to keep their dogs, cats, fish, budgies and more, well-fed and cared for. Customers will have access to 3 500 products across 80+ trusted brands on the Sixty60 platform for same-day delivery, fulfilled directly from the closest Petshop Science stores. For added convenience, Petshop Science customers can order on any device – either through the Sixty60 app or e-commerce site. Petshop Science was launched in 2021, tapping into South Africa's multi-billion Rand pet market and has quickly become the fastest growing player in the industry, with 143 stores across eight provinces. 'Our unwavering commitment to provide value on premium pet food and veterinary-approved essentials has won the hearts and minds of our customers. Now it's time to ramp up our efforts by partnering with Sixty60 to offer customers unrivalled convenience - delivering quality right to their doorstep,' said Trevor Paxton, General Manager for Petshop Science. Another Sixty60 driver dies in horrific head-on collision
A Checkers Sixty60 driver has tragically died after a head-on collision with a police van in Cape Town. The accident marks the third recorded fatality this year from the delivery service, known for operating in any and all circumstances, within a one-hour timeframe. According to the supermarket chain, drivers are outsourced to independent contractors who purchase their own motorcycles and uniforms. In videos circulating on social media, a police van reportedly collided with a Checkers Sixty60 motorcycle, where a driver was fatally injured. In the clip, the delivery driver was seen wedged under the front tyres of the double-cab vehicle. The accident occurred on Voortrekker Road in Bellville on Monday 23, June. Police have confirmed that the incident is under investigation. No other details of the incident have been made public. This week's accident marks the third fatality of a Checkers Sixty60 driver this year. In January, a driver died in a head-on collision with two vehicles in Camps Bay, Cape Town. In May, another was tragically killed by a drunken driver in Bela Bela. Later that month, two Sixty60 drivers collided, as seen in CCTV footage at an unknown location. Earlier this month, a Sixty60 driver was captured on CCTV footage colliding with a car after speeding through an intersection in Durba. A few days later, another driver was found unconscious at an accident scene in Heiderand, Mossel Bay. This week another viral video revealed another Sixty60 motorcycle crash, which occured during rainy weather conditions, reportedly in the Western Cape. According to the Shoprite Group, Checkers Sixty60 has a service guarantee in place to deliver 'no matter the weather.' The group's Chief Strategy Officer, Neil Schreuder, said in a statement: ' In South Africa, this can be tricky at times given load shedding-related traffic congestion, rainy weather, and other challenges faced by drivers on the roads.' According to BusinessTech , Checkers Sixty60 drivers are independent contractors who own motorbikes and purchase their uniforms. The drivers are expected to deliver their orders within 60 minutes, failing which could result in alleged deductions. Additionally, customers will receive free delivery if an order arrives more than 30 minutes after the estimated time of arrival and if the order contains less than 80% of a customer's first-choice products. Montagu mom crafts award-winning gown from Sixty60 bags
In the Western Cape Winelands, a dazzling display of creativity and sustainability took centre stage at the Meneer en Mejuffrou Boland modelling competition. Seventeen-year-old Beate van Wyk, a matriculant from Paarl Girls' High School, captivated the audience in a stunning ballgown crafted entirely from repurposed Checkers Sixty60 and Checkers plastic shopping bags. The mastermind behind this eco-chic ensemble was Hesmari van Deventer, a 42-year-old mother from Montagu, who transformed everyday waste into runway-ready fashion in just four days. The inspiration sparked when Beate expressed her desire to participate in the competition's "From Trash" themed category. Initially considering overalls made from Sixty60 bags, Hesmari encouraged a more ambitious approach.
