Mandela Day celebrations with Mamello's elderly people
MAMELLO. – The Vaal Marina SAPS in partnership with AGAPE Lerato Community Service, Siyabangena Patrollers and SAVF joined by Department of Social Development, Fire Department, Midvaal Traffic Department hosted a successful Mandela Day and graceful Awareness at Mamello Informal Settlement in Vaal Marina on Friday.
The event celebrated 67min of Mandela Day providing entertainment and creating a safe space to the elderly people.
The Station Commander of Vaal Marina SAPS, Captain J Greyling, made key note of Ubuntu and saying only working together will help build a healthy and safe environment for the people.
' For Nelson Mandela wanted a better nation for all when he defended the badge of the springboks and changed the flag of South Africa to accommodate all who lives in it'.
The initiative aimed to bridge the information gap and support the elderly.
Stakeholders offered guidance on their component's safety tips and on how one can handle the issue if one is in the situation, also addressing the issue of drugs abuse in the house holds, road safety, child abuse and community safety and life-improving services.
The 67min function added a fun element, with a performance from the Mamello local dance group 'Injabulo yethu entertainment' and also gifts were issued to the elders.
'This event marked a significant step towards empowering Mamello's elders, giving them hope that they are well supported and protected by the stakeholders involved on the program and showing them working together can bring a change,' Police spokesperson, Constable Thabang Mothibe said.
