Malema urges Zimbabweans to seek jobs at home

Julius Malema, leader of South Africa's Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has urged Zimbabweans to seek employment in their own country rather than competing for jobs in South Africa. Malema made the remarks on Saturday during the Siyabonga rally in Seshego, Polokwane, Limpopo, where the EFF celebrated its by-election victory in July. This marks a shift from his 2022 stance, when he encouraged Zimbabweans to work in South Africa, emphasising that it was their home. Malema stressed that Zimbabweans should pursue jobs in their municipalities instead of taking positions in South Africa. 'We are not saying Zimbabweans should not be given jobs, but they must get jobs from their own municipalities,' Malema said, pointing to Harare and other Zimbabwean cities as places where employment opportunities should be sought. He cited South Africa's youth unemployment rate as alarming and unsustainable. He said this is one reason the EFF prioritises policies directing municipal tenders and other local job opportunities to South African workers. The EFF now prioritises employment for South African citizens, regardless of language skills or connections. Historically, Malema has supported African unity and encouraged Zimbabweans to participate in their national elections. His recent statements signal a more protectionist approach to employment, focusing on South African citizens' rights and opportunities. Julius Malema explains the EFF's opposition to the National Dialogue: 'Our people need services'

The EFF President and Commander in Chief Julius Malema addressing ground forces at the #EFFSiyabongaRally in Ward 13, Seshego. Image: X/@EFFSouthAfrica Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema speaking during the Siyabonga rally held at Seshego in Polokwane, Limpopo on Saturday, criticised the National Dialogue. Malema lambasted the dialogue using money, which the government does not have, yet people do not have services needed. 'While it was disorganised, it was just government elite that was all over the place. It really did not serve any purpose. If anything, it was saving the egos of certain people, and therefore it was a waste of money. 'NGOs and people who participated in that preparations suggested that it must be postponed, because they are not ready only to go and embarrass themselves the way they did. 'We don't support this convention. We don't support the national dialogue. We know the demands of our people. We cannot spend R700 million of the money that we don't have. Our people need services, they don't want the talks, they are tired of talking,' said Malema. The National Dialogue kicked off on Friday at UNISA in Pretoria, despite the withdrawal of former President Thabo Mbeki, several legacy foundations, Government of National Unity (GNU) partners, and civil society organisations. They pulled out of the process, citing concerns over its implementation and rushed timelines. Video Player is loading. Malema: National Dialogue is a waste of resources

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has denounced the National Dialogue, calling it a waste of state resources. Malema made the remarks on Saturday during the Siyabonga rally in Seshego, Polokwane, Limpopo, where the party celebrated its by-election victory in July. The EFF won the ward 13 by-election with 57% of the vote, while the African National Congress (ANC) secured 39%. Malema accused the government of ignoring community challenges while wasting millions on the National Dialogue. 'It served no purpose. It only protected the egos of certain people, and it wasted money. NGOs and other participants told organisers to postpone because they were not ready, but they went ahead and embarrassed themselves. We don't support this convention, and we don't support the National Dialogue. We already know what our people demand. Government cannot waste R700 million that it does not have,' Malema said. Malema expressed confidence that the EFF will win more votes in Limpopo during the 2026 local government elections. 'We are ready to win wards in Bela Bela and across Limpopo. We want the EFF present in every township, municipality, and rural area, and we aim to take over government in contested wards,' Malema said. Malema also offered condolences to the widows and children of the Marikana massacre victims on the 13th anniversary of the tragedy at the Lonmin platinum mine in Rustenburg, North West. Police shot and killed 34 miners during a strike for higher wages. 'We send our condolences to the widows of Marikana and the children who lost their fathers. Marikana shaped the EFF into what it is today. The EFF and Marikana will always remain linked. The pain of Marikana remains our pain, because to this day no one has been held accountable,' Malema said. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Missing Soweto boy found dead in manhole drain

The lifeless body of eight-year-old Siyabonga Mkhwanazi, who was reported missing, was discovered in a manhole drain near his home in Emdeni, Soweto, yesterday. Soweto Urban reports that his body was recovered following an intensive search by the K9 search-and-rescue team. According to people at the scene, his hands and knees appeared shrivelled, and there was foam coming from his nose. Last seen In a statement released by the police, the Grade Two learner was last seen on Saturday. Siyabonga's sister, Gugu Mtenjane, told Urban News that he had gone outside after hearing a car horn, thinking it was his father arriving. That was the last time he was seen. 'After a few hours, my dad came home alone without Siyabonga. We immediately started to worry. We began searching for him, and we contacted close family, friends, and even community groups. When Siyabonga's mother got home from work, she and my dad went to the police station to open a case,' said Mtenjane. She added that the family is deeply saddened by the tragedy and, if someone is responsible, they hope justice will be served. Community offers support Following the discovery of Siyabonga's body, the community gathered to offer comfort and support to the family through a prayer session. Ward councillor Thapelo Radebe expressed his condolences to the family. 'We are concerned about the state of the municipality's infrastructure, which is not in good condition. We will not speculate on what happened to the child, whether he was thrown inside or fell in, but the fact remains that he was found inside the drain, and that is deeply worrying,' said Radebe. He added that the rising number of children who are being attacked or going missing is alarming. Radebe stressed the need to build safer communities and to return to the values of looking out for one another's children, saying such principles could make a significant difference. Soweto Urban is still awaiting an official police report. Breaking news at your fingertips… Follow Caxton Network News on Facebook and join our WhatsApp channel. Nuus wat saakmaak. Offramp Experience returns in partnership with Ugu Jazz Festival

The Offramp Experience returns in partnership with the Ugu Jazz Festival. The announcement that the jazz festival was back was made by the Ugu municipality after a competitive bidding process to find a suitable events company. Kicking off festivities are the Ultimate Fishing Competition in Margate on June 21 and the Mayor's Cup soccer tournament at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre on the same date. Gospel enthusiasts are in for a treat at the Worship Experience featuring well-known musicians and pastors at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre on June 27. June 28 will mark the return of the Ugu Jazz Festival on a small scale for now. Xolly Mncwango, Hlengiwe Mhlaba, Sgwili, Prophet Msimang and more are scheduled to perform at the two-day festival. Coolsounds Trading's Siyabonga Msomi was revealed as the successful bidder. Siyabonga expressed his excitement to TshisaLIVE, promising to raise the standard. The jazz festival will be staged in collaboration with his Offramp Experience, set for its third annual instalment in June. 'Offramp Experience is not a one-day event. It consists of activities curated to suit everyone's palate, drawing tourists, which is our main goal. June belongs to the south coast. We are relaunching it with plans to go bigger next year. For this year, we will host a limited number of guests,' said Siyabonga. Ugu mayor Sikhumbuzo Mqadi said the Ugu Jazz Festival was previously put on hold due to financial constraints. 'Our core mandate is to provide residents with water. I can confirm we have turned the corner in the provision of water. We are stable, so we are able to host an event of this magnitude and host tourists. It can bring people together and unite us through music', said Sikhumbuzo.
