Wi-Fi 7 to Drive Double-Digit Enterprise WLAN Growth in 2025, According to Dell'Oro Group
2028 Adoption of Wi-Fi 7 Will Eclipse Wi-Fi 6 Peak REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Aug. 7, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- According to a recently published report from Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the telecommunications, security, networks, and data center industries, excess inventory in the channel has been cleared, and WLAN revenue is expected to grow 12 percent in 2025. Wi-Fi 7 shipments will shoot up in 2025 and will represent over a third of Indoor AP revenues. "We expect that in 2028, Wi-Fi 7 sales will represent over 90 percent of Indoor AP revenues, with the first enterprise class Wi-Fi 8 APs appearing on the market late that year," said Siân Morgan, Research Director at Dell'Oro Group. "Wi-Fi 6 never reached that level of penetration because Wi-Fi 6E was released to the market so quickly." "Industry experts who sit on the key standards bodies are already working through the options for Wi-Fi 8. We predict a material upswing in Wi-Fi 8 adoption in 2029, which gives Wi-Fi 7 over 5 years on the market for vendors to recoup development costs," added Morgan. Additional highlights from the Wireless LAN 5-Year July 2025 Forecast Report: Lower Wi-Fi 7 price premiums are expected to boost market adoption of the technology. HPE's acquisition of Juniper may help grow the worldwide Public Cloud-Managed WLAN market. Vendor WLAN software revenues are expected to keep growing, as Annual Recurring Revenue streams build up. Adoption of AI by enterprises is expected to put pressure on the Local Area Network and support spending on WLAN. About the Report The Dell'Oro Group Wireless LAN 5-Year Forecast Report offers complete, in-depth coverage of the Enterprise Outdoor and Indoor markets, Wireless LAN Controllers with tables containing manufacturers' revenue, average selling prices, and unit shipments by the following wireless standards: 802.11bn (Wi-Fi 8), 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7), 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6 and 6E [6 GHz]), 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 5) Wave 1 vs. Wave 2, 802.11n, and historic IEEE 802.11 standards. WLAN Market Bounces Back to Double-Digit Growth, According to Dell'Oro Group
Vendors Focus on Wi-Fi 7 and AI for Networks REDWOOD CITY, Calif., June 5, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- According to a recently published report from Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the telecommunications, security, networks, and data center industries, enterprise class Wireless LAN (WLAN) revenue increased by 11 percent on year-over-year basis. The adoption of latest technology, Wi-Fi 7, continued its ascent, reaching 12 percent of units shipped worldwide. "This is the first quarter that all major vendors sold enterprise class Wi-Fi 7," said Siân Morgan, Research Director at Dell'Oro Group. "Some manufacturers have been dealing with large inventories of Wi-Fi 6E, and have been prioritizing shipments of the older technology, which still has strong adoption. Now we're coming to the end of Wi-Fi 6E growth phase, the market will shift over to Wi-Fi 7 in larger numbers." "Vendors are also putting development efforts into AI models to enhance WLAN operations," continued Morgan. "AI and Machine Learning are being used to perform cross-domain troubleshooting, to support front line support staff, and to create custom, dynamic dashboards. We expect these developments to pay off by growing recurring software revenues for WLAN vendors." Additional highlights from the 1Q 2025 Wireless LAN Quarterly Report: WLAN revenues from CommScope, Ubiquiti and Extreme grew faster than any other vendor. Shipments to North America surged, with other regions lagging behind. The Average Selling Price of Wi-Fi 7 remained lower than Wi-Fi 6E, highlighting the fact that the early Wi-Fi 7 market has been dominated by lower-cost vendors. The US Department of Justice's suit aiming to block HPE's intended acquisition of Juniper is set to begin July 9th 2025, with HPE stating it is still committed to the deal. Ethernet Campus Switch Revenues Bounce Back to Exceed $20 Billion in 2025, According to Dell'Oro Group
Wi-Fi 7 Deployments Will Require Campus Switch Upgrades REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Jan. 30, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- According to a recently published report by Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for information about the telecommunications, security, networks, and data center industries, 2024 was a difficult year for Ethernet Campus Switch sales, with a 20 percent contraction compared to record revenues in 2023. The market is expected to rebound in 2025 and beyond, fueled by refresh cycles and Wi-Fi 7 deployments. "Wi-Fi 7 Access Points draw twice as much power as Wi-Fi 6," said Siân Morgan, Research Director at Dell'Oro Group. "Enterprises will need to upgrade their switches to deliver sufficient levels of Power over Ethernet (PoE) in order to benefit from the improvements brought about by Wi-Fi 7. This is especially true in regions that support the 6 GHz band, such as North America and Europe. "Enterprises recognize the importance of a high-performance Local Area Network (LAN), especially facing the new opportunities brought about by Artificial Intelligence (AI). While there is a possibility that some organizations will shift spending to AI projects over the next two to three years, overall, we see enterprise AI adoption as a positive lift for the Ethernet Campus Switch market," added Morgan. Additional highlights from the Ethernet Switch–Campus 5-Year January 2025 Forecast Report: Revenue CAGR from the sale of 5.0 Gbps ports is expected to exceed 20 percent between 2024 and 2029, driven by higher speed Wi-Fi APs. Hybrid work models being adopted by enterprises will put both downward and upward pressures on campus switch spending. Sales to the Americas experienced the sharpest decline among all macro regions in 2024. Despite China's economic downturn, the region is expected to increase its share of Ethernet Campus Switch revenues. Richer feature sets, including AIOps functionality, are expected to drive up vendor software revenues. About the ReportThe Dell'Oro Group Ethernet Switch – Campus 5-Year Forecast Report offers a complete overview of Ethernet switches built and optimized for deployment outside the data center, to connect users and things to the Local Area Networks. The report contains tables covering manufacturers' revenue, average selling prices, and port/unit shipments by speed (100 Mbps, 1/2.5/5/10/25/40/50/100/400 Gbps Ethernet), plus regional breakouts.
