NYT Crossword Puzzle Clues And Answers For Sunday, May 4
Crossword Welcome to the inaugural edition of this New York Times Crossword clues and answers guide, where I go through the puzzle and pull out all the answers to the toughest questions the NYT has for you. And they are really tough, as you probably know by now, depending on the day. Today we will begin with the Sunday, May 4 puzzle. But first: Well, the first step here is that if you're doing this online and not in the newspaper, you will need a full all-access subscription to the New York Times, which allows you to play online and it gives you access to all archives of all puzzle games on the site. Past that, well, it's a crossword. You will be given clues stretching on both directions on the board and find the letters that fill out the entire thing correctly. Clues can be tough on their own, but with multiple answers potentially in the same lettercount, they can be downright diabolical. The puzzle has a timer to see how you're doing for your personal bests, and don't forget about the 'Rebus' button which turns some squares into two letter spaces, which is always a nightmare. But don't worry, we're here to help. And with that, here's today's puzzle. 1) Things hidden after purchasing a premium account, maybe - ADS 4) Follower of a bit? - MUCH 8) Bank robber's accessory - MASK 12) "The Wild Duck" playwright - IBSEN 17) Egg ___ yung - FOO 18) Big name in deodorant - ARRID 20) Contents of a blog - POSTS 21) Handle - SEETO 22) Product that "can cut a slice of bread so thin you can almost see through it!," in old ads - GINSUKNIFE 24) Try to open, as a gift - RIPAT 25) Toon fighter of Skeletor - HEMAN 26) French name that's an anagram of a mostly German river - HENRI 27) Features of jalapeños and piña coladas - TILDES 29) Coach Lasso on TV - TED 31) Confirmation, e.g. - RITE 32) Brand with a line of "Calm + Restore" products - AVEENO 34) Bunless cookout entrees - LETTUCEWRAPS 37) Land - NET 38) Natl. economic stat - GDP 40) Spirit for a spritz - APEROL 41) Moves one's butt (over) - SCOOTS 44) Book reviews of sorts? Some really tough ones in there, and I was embarrassed I thought 'May the fourth be with you' was 'live long and prosper' because that was the only sci-fi phrase that came to mind. To be far, that's not exactly in the movies. Favorite Clue - I really enjoyed the 'companion who takes your breath away' being a blow-up doll, extremely clever. Hardest Clue - Always a lot to choose from here, but it's almost always something with a Rebus, which in this case whas the ginsu knife from the old TV ads, as sometimes it will be used to make something plural, but not in this case, and you needed it to face the base word in. Very tough. That's all for today, see you tomorrow. Maybe. Depending on how this goes. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.

As He-Man in ‘Masters of the Universe,' Nicholas Galitzine shows off ‘intense training' in first look
Wielding the iconic Power Sword and boasting a muscular build, actor Nicholas Galitzine is showing off his take on He-Man for the upcoming live-action adaptation of 'Masters of the Universe.' The 'Red, White & Royal Blue' and 'Idea of You' star posted a first-look image on social media, writing that the anticipated movie is now in production. Amazon MGM Studios, Mattel and the film's accounts posted the same. Mattel created the 'Masters of the Universe' franchise, based on a genre-bending, sci-fi and medieval story set on the planet Eternia, in the early '80s. With the popularity of MOTU toys, books and comics came video games, films and multiple animated series. There was a previous live-action movie in 1987, starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as the villain Skeletor. He-Man is the franchise's central hero, known for his superhuman strength. The bulk of the franchise's adaptations focus on He-Man's conflict with Skeletor, who will be played by Jared Leto in the upcoming film. The rights to a film adaptation have changed hands many times, but in May 2024, Amazon MGM Studios announced the big-budget live-action project with director Travis Knight at the helm. Days before the release of the teaser image, more cast members were revealed, including Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Camila Mendes as Teela, Morena Baccarin as Sorceress, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Fisto. The cast also includes James Purefoy, Sasheer Zamata, John Xue Zhang, Christian Vunipola, Charlotte Riley, Hafthor Bjornsson and Kojo Attah. 'Our director Travis Knight has assembled the most incredible ensemble cast and created a stunning tapestry of Eternia and its surrounding world,' Galitzine wrote on Instagram after saying he went through 'several months of intense training' for the role. 'I can't wait for you to see. More to come, but until then, here's a sneak peek at the Sword of Power. By the power of Grayskull!' To transform into 'the strongest man in the universe,' as he described his character to W Magazine in January, Galitzine said he was doing a lot of stunt work, weightlifting and eating. 'I'm eating about 4,000 calories a day, but the amount of physical work I'm doing, you end up hungry at the end of the day, which is quite surprising,' he told the magazine. 'This is the fun part. I will eventually go into what's called the cutting phase, where I'm going to be starved and so rude to everyone. I can only apologize for the person I'm going to become in a few months' time.' 'Masters of the Universe' is set to be released June 5, 2026.

Mattel's "Masters Of The Universe" Finds Its Sorceress & Fisto
Yara Sameh Amazon MGM's upcoming live-action film 'Masters of the Universe' has added Morena Baccarin in the role of The Sorceress and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson in the role of Malcolm/Fisto. The reimagining of the popular Mattel toy line has also cast Skeletor's coterie of henchmen with Sam C. Wilson ('House of the Dragon') starring as Trap Jaw; Kojo Attah ('The Beekeeper') playing Tri-Klops; and Hafthor Bjornsson ('Game of Thrones') as Goat Man. They'll join the previously cast Alison Brie ('Promising Young Woman') as Skeletor's lieutenant, Evil-Lyn; Camila Mendes ('Riverdale') as He-Man's trusted compatriot, Teela; and Idris Elba ('Hijack') as Teela's father, Man-at-Arms. 'Bumblebee' director Travis Knight is directing for the Escape Artists and Mattel Films production. Knight is helming the project from a script by Chris Butler. The initial draft of the screenplay was penned by David Callaham, Aaron Nee, and Adam Nee. Mattel launched the Masters of the Universe franchise with a line of action figures that debuted in 1982. A year later, the animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe premiered in syndication and was followed by video games and other merchandise. 'Masters of the Universe' has endured a particularly torturous, two-decade-plus journey to the big screen. The project was set up at Warner Bros. and Sony before moving to Netflix, which axed the film in 2023 over budget concerns. Countless directors, including 'Kung Fu Panda' filmmaker John Stevenson, 'Wicked' helmer Jon M. Chu, 'Charlie's Angels' filmmaker McG and 'The Lost City' duo Aaron and Adam Nee, have cycled through the movie since 2007. 'West Side Story' actor Kyle Allen was at one point attached to play He-Man; it's unclear when those talks fell apart. Plot details are being kept under wraps. According to a prior synopsis from the studio, 'Masters of the Universe' follows Prince Adam a.k.a. He-Man, who crashes to Earth in a spaceship as a child and, decades later, returns to his home planet to defend it from the evil forces of the baddie known as Skeletor. But in order to defeat the powerful villain, he needs to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man, referred to in this world as 'the most powerful man in the universe.' It is one of 15 live-action motion pictures in development — some more curious than others — at Mattel Films, including Daniel Kaluuya's 'Barney,' the Jennifer Lopez and Anthony Ramos animated 'Bob the Builder,' rapper Lil Yachty's heist thriller 'Uno' and Vin Diesel's 'Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots.' Mattel's first and only film, so far, has been the billion-dollar blockbuster 'Barbie' for Warner Bros. 'Masters of the Universe' will be released in theaters on June 5, 2026.
