Kim Kardashian's Skims Will Expand To Skincare, Cosmetics And Fragrance Following Skkn By Kim Acquisition

Kim Kardashian's shapewear and clothing brand Skims is set to expand its reach into skincare, cosmetics and fragrance, uniting Kardashian's fashion and beauty empire all under one imprint after acquiring Kardashian's beauty brand Skkn by Kim.
On March 21, Skims announced its acquisition of Kardashian's majority stake and Coty's 20% minority stake in Skkn by Kim, which Kardashian launched in 2022. Coty purchased the stake in Skkn by Kim in 2021 for $200 million. (Skims' purchasing price wasn't publicly disclosed.)

Of the brand consolidation, 'My mission has always been to create products that resonate deeply—whether it's shapewear and lingerie that empowers or makeup and skincare that transforms,' Kardashian said in a release. 'Uniting everything under the Skims brand streamlines that vision.'

As far back as July 2023, The Wall Street Journal reported that Kardashian was 'in talks to buy back the minority stake' of Skkn by Kim that she sold to Coty, whose portfolio includes brands across skincare, fragrance, color cosmetics and body care, including Cover Girl and a majority stake in Kylie Cosmetics, the beauty brand of Kardashian's half-sister Kylie Jenner. (Kylie Cosmetics' CEO Anna von Bayern confirmed that Coty would continue to work with Jenner's brand.)

Coty said it would use the proceeds from the Skkn by Kim sale to 'reduce debt and invest in innovations across its broader brand portfolio,' according to Reuters.
The March 21 release hinted that Skims would begin launching beauty and fragrance offerings in 2026, and Skkn by Kim's most recent Instagram post confirmed the acquisition, telling customers to 'Enjoy your favorite Skkn essentials for a limited time as we prepare to relaunch under the Skims brand.'
With the sale, Skims—founded in 2019—will now house not just shapewear and clothing but skincare, cosmetics and fragrance. 'This acquisition isn't just growth,' Jens Grede, CEO and co-founder of Skims, said in a statement. 'It's about the strength of our brand and our ability to enter a new category with authority.'

Skkn by Kim was founded in 2022 following the 2021 closure of KKW Beauty, which Kardashian launched in 2017. Kardashian also closed KKW Fragrance in 2022, just months before Skkn by Kim's launch. Skkn by Kim originally launched with skincare and later expanded into makeup; Kardashian told Harper's Bazaar last summer that fragrance was 'definitely coming' for the brand, adding, 'We are really taking our time to make sure the packaging, the scents and the entire experience is perfect and exactly what you would expect.'
