"Hounded By This Government For 10 Years": Rahul Gandhi Defends Robert Vadra

New Delhi: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has backed his brother-in-law - businessman Robert Vadra - after the Enforcement Directorate filed a chargesheet in a money laundering case linked to a Gurugram real estate deal. "My brother-in-law has been hounded by this government for the last 10 years... this latest chargesheet is a continuation of that witch hunt," Mr Gandhi said on X. "I stand with Robert, Priyanka (Gandhi Vadra, the Congress MP from Wayanad) and their children as they face yet another onslaught of malicious, politically motivated slander and harassment." "I know they are all brave enough to withstand any kind of persecution and they will continue to do so with dignity. The truth will eventually prevail," Rahul Gandhi said. My brother-in-law has been hounded by this government for the last ten years. This latest chargesheet is a continuation of that witch hunt. General Secretary Randeep Surjewala told reporters " there is not an iota of illegality" in the land deal in question, and demanded to know when buying and selling land had been made illegal. The Enforcement Directorate filed its chargesheet Thursday afternoon. It names Mr Vadra and his company, Sky Light Hospitality Pvt Ltd, and is in reference to the alleged fraudulent purchase of 3.53 acres of land in Gurugram's Sector 83 in February 2008. The federal agency claims fake documents were used to facilitate and complete the purchase, and Mr Vadra then secured a commercial licence thanks to his position of power. On July 16 the agency had attached 43 properties - worth approximately Rs 37.64 crore - belonging to Mr Vadra, Sky Light Hospitality, and others named in the chargesheet. In a brief but forceful statement, Mr Vadra's office called the chargesheet "an extension of the political witch hunt by the present government against him", and said the businessman would nevertheless, as he always had, "continue to extend his fullest cooperation to the authorities". "... he is confident the truth will prevail and he will be cleared of wrongdoing... he is looking forward to the opportunity to defend himself and clear his name in court," the statement said.

Enforcement Directorate's 1st Chargesheet Against Robert Vadra In Gurugram Land Deal Case

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a chargesheet against businessman Robert Vadra and 11 others in a Gurugram land deal case. He faces three cases, and this is the first chargesheet. The ED filed the chargesheet in Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court, which will take up the matter on Friday. Mr Vadra's office in a statement said the "proceedings are nothing more than an extension of the political witchhunt by the present government." Apart from Mr Vadra, the chargesheet has named his company Sky Light Hospitality Pvt Ltd, Omkareshwar Properties Pvt Ltd, and their heads Satyanand Yaji, Kewal Singh Virak, and others. The Gurugram Police had filed a first information report against them for allegedly buying 3.53 acres of land fraudulently in Shikohpur village in Gurugram Sector 83. Mr Vadra allegedly bought the land from Omkareshwar Properties in February 2008 using false documents and then got a commercial licence using his personal influence, investigators have said. The ED on July 16 attached 43 immovable properties worth approximately Rs 37.64 crore. These properties belong to Mr Vadra, Sky Light Hospitality, and others. In the statement, Mr Vadra's office said the court is yet to even take cognisance of the matter, and he has not had the opportunity to examine the complaint against him. "As a law-abiding Indian citizen, Mr Vadra has always and will continue to extend his fullest cooperation to the authorities and he is confident that at the end of it all, the truth will prevail and he will be cleared of any wrongdoing... Mr Vadra is looking forward to the opportunity to defend himself and clear his name in court," Mr Vadra's office said.

ED files chargesheet against Robert Vadra in Shikohpur land deal case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a chargesheet against businessman Robert Vadra, the brother-in-law of the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, in connection with a money laundering case linked to a land deal in Shikohpur in Haryana. An ED official said after completing their investigation, a prosecution complaint was filed at the Rouse Avenue Court against 11 individuals or entities: Robert Vadra and his entities, including M/s Sky Light Hospitality Pvt Ltd and others, and Satyanand Yajee and Kewal Singh Virk, including their entity M/s Onkareshwar Properties Pvt Ltd, have been arrayed as accused. The court is yet to take cognisance of the prosecution complaint. The ED initiated its investigation on the basis of an FIR registered by the Gurgaon police on September 1, 2018. The FIR alleges that Vadra, through Sky Light Hospitality Pvt Ltd, fraudulently purchased 3.53 acres of land in Shikohpur village in Gurgaon's Sector 83 from Onkareshwar Properties Pvt Ltd on February 12, 2008, through a false declaration. 'Probe has revealed that the commercial license was also obtained by Robert Vadra on the land through his personal influence. A provisional attachment order was issued on July 16, 2025 in which 43 immovable properties amounting to Rs 37.64 crore pertaining to Robert Vadra and his entities M/s Sky Light Hospitality Pvt. Ltd. and others have been attached,' the ED official said. Criticising the move as 'political vendetta', Vadra had in April this year claimed that attempts were made to silence him and Rahul Gandhi. 'When I speak in favour of the country, I am stopped, Rahul is stopped from speaking in Parliament. The BJP is doing it. This is political vendetta,' he had said. 'People love me and want me to join politics… When I express my willingness to join politics, they bring up old issues to bring me down and divert from the real issues…,' he had added. In February 2008, Skylight Hospitality, which Vadra had launched in 2007 with a capital of Rs 1 lakh, bought about 3.5 acres of land in Manesar-Shikohpur in Gurgaon from Onkareshwar Properties for Rs 7.5 crore. The plot was mutated in favour of Skylight the next day, and the title of the land was reportedly transferred to Vadra within 24 hours of the purchase. This process usually takes at least three months. A month later, the Haryana government, which was then headed by Bhupinder Singh Hooda, gave Skylight Hospitality permission to develop a housing project on most of the land. This led to an immediate increase in the value of the land. In June 2008, real estate company DLF agreed to buy the plot for Rs 58 crore, which meant that in just a few months, the value of Vadra's property had increased by close to 700 per cent. The payment was made to Vadra in instalments, and it was only in 2012 that the mutation transferring the colony licence on the land was transferred to DLF. In 2018, an FIR was registered against Hooda, who was the chief minister of Haryana from 2005 to 2014, as well as against Vadra, and real estate companies DLF and Onkareshwar Properties for alleged criminal conspiracy, cheating, fraud, and forgery, and under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Hooda, Vadra, and the Congress have always denied any wrongdoing in this regard.
