The Ray Thomas Blackbook: A recap of Lord Mayor's Cup Day at Rosehill

Racing expert Ray Thomas has run the rule over Saturday's Lord Mayor's Cup meeting at Rosehill Gardens and found a few he reckons are worth following. â– â– â– â– â– FIVE TO FOLLOW Codetta (Race 5) had to ease towards the centre of the track to get into the clear before charging home for a first-up second to King's Secret. Codetta's closing sectionals were the fastest of the day and she can be placed to advantage next start. Island Dec (Race 5 ) was the 'hidden' run of the meeting. She was held up for a run on the turn and had to ease off heels to get to the outside. The race was over at this point but Island Dec ran on to finish only eighth, recording a fast final 600m of 34.27s and closing 200m split of 11.59s. It's no secret that King's Secret has a bright future! ðŸ'' He wins at Rosehill for @PrideRacing and Andrew Adkins! @aus_turf_club | @ProvenTbreds — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) May 31, 2025 Kerguelen (Race 7) always looked to be in a controlling position and sprinted home strongly under 57.5kg to score a good first-up win from a very game Brave One. The winner and runner-up put nearly three lengths on their chasing rivals. Kerguelen gives @JamesCummings88 and @KPMcEvoy a Rosehill double! ðŸ'° @godolphin | @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) May 31, 2025 Don Diego De Vega (Race 8) was first-up in the Lord Mayor's Cup and his effort to finish fourth was full of merit. The winner, Touristic was far too good, but Don Diego De Vega caught the eye running on strongly late for fourth, recording fast closing sectionals. See the sights! Touristic wins the Listed Lord Mayors Cup at Rosehill, and that's a double to Andy Adkins today! 🙌 ðŸ† @SnowdenRacing1 | @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) May 31, 2025 Liberty State (Race 10) was never on the track, racing three-and-four wide without cover then went even wider on the turn before unleashing a brilliant burst of acceleration to reel in her rivals for an outstanding first-up win. Follow her with confidence as she has an unbeaten second-up record. Liberty State returns after a spell with a big win in the last at Rosehill, and that's a double to @djgibbons22! 🥳 @HawkesRacing | @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) May 31, 2025 â– â– â– â– â– ON THE CLOCK Hidden Achievement (Race 1) wasn't suited by the slow early tempo but ran on well for third, producing a final 200m of 11.55s, the second fastest closing sectional of the day. A great battle in the opener at Rosehill with Zebra Finch victorious! ðŸ¦'ðŸ'° @JamesCummings88 | @KPMcEvoy | @godolphin | @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) May 31, 2025 Lady Extreme (Race 3) was resuming in the Midway but impressed with her fast-finishing win. She ran her final 600m in a swift 34.60s with a final 200m split of 11.85s. Lady Extreme swoops on them to take the Midway at Rosehill first up! ðŸ'¨ @blakeryan86 | @AlyshaCollett | @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) May 31, 2025 Codetta (Race 5 ) didn't have a lot of galloping room in the straight but still sprinted her final 600m in 34.07s with her closing 200m split of 11.45s to finish second. Both sectionals were the best of the day. It's no secret that King's Secret has a bright future! ðŸ'' He wins at Rosehill for @PrideRacing and Andrew Adkins! @aus_turf_club | @ProvenTbreds — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) May 31, 2025 Touristic (Race 8 ) reeled off a sub-12s final 200m split at the end of 2000m to win the Lord Mayor's Cup. Touristic ran his closing 200m in 11.98s to win by a widening margin. See the sights! Touristic wins the Listed Lord Mayors Cup at Rosehill, and that's a double to Andy Adkins today! 🙌 ðŸ† @SnowdenRacing1 | @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) May 31, 2025 Liberty State (Race 10 ) covered so much extra ground but was still able to rip home her final 600m in 34.89s to score a very good win. Liberty State returns after a spell with a big win in the last at Rosehill, and that's a double to @djgibbons22! 🥳 @HawkesRacing | @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) May 31, 2025 â– â– â– â– â– WHAT THEY SAID 'It wasn't a big winning margin but I am sure with a better quality horse to aim at, Zebra Finch is going to be better again. He is the sort of colt that only does enough (but) I am sure if he got challenged there was an extra kick in the locker,'' jockey Kerrin McEvoy said. 'The race lacked tempo, it was a sit and sprint. Adam (Hyeronimus, jockey) is adamant that when you can put the bit in his mouth a little bit better, he'll have a better turn of foot. Adam is strongly pushing for Chris (Waller to go to Brisbane with him). He said 'I don't care if I ride him or not but you should be running the horse in the JJ', that's his opinion','' stable representative Charlie Duckworth said. 'Today was my first time on Kerguelen 's back and he really took my eye in the parade. He's a nice horse and gave me a really good feel. He travelled like the winner during the race and to dig in first up at the 1200m like that was a good effort,'' jockey Kerrin McEvoy said. ' King's Secret switched right on today, showed good speed, travelled the whole way and when I asked for him, there was plenty there. He showed a good turn of foot so that's nice to know that he can handle a wet track like that. It's opens more doors going forward,'' jockey Andrew Adkins said. 'Any stakes winner is rewarding but to get two winners back in town today is very satisfying and it helps build that confidence. I've been back at the provincials for a while now and I've had great success there. It's been great for my confidence and now as we head into the winter months, the opportunities to come back and ride in town are opening up and like today, I've made the most of some really great opportunities,' Adkins again after winning the Lord Mayor's Cup on Touristic. â– â– â– â– â– STEWARDS SAY Maori Chief (Race 4) was hampered near the 250m when obliged to shift in away from the heels of Kundabung but was still very disappointing in the manner in which it gave ground in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Pure Alpha (Race 6) was inconvenienced near the 1400m when carried out by Forecast. Pure Alpha had some difficulty obtaining clear running prior to the 200m then just prior to the finish line became unbalanced due to contact from Little Cointreau, which shifted in. Sir Lucan (Race 8 ) was expected to settle in a prominent position, however, due to crowding at the start between Shahzad and Kadavar, Sir Lucan was required to settle near the rear of the field. Kadavar was severely crowded on jumping between Sir Lucan and Speycaster, which jumped in abruptly, and, as a consequence, settled at the rear of the field. Liberty State (Race 10 ), the eventual winner, raced three and four wide and without cover throughout the event. Summer Flame (Race 10 ) was bumped on jumping then travelled satisfactorily through the early and middle stages, however, when placed under pressure she gave no response and made an audible respiratory sound. When Summer Flame commenced to give ground abruptly from the 200m she was eased the filly down over the final stages of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame (1/5) in the off-foreleg. â– â– â– â– â– NSW RACING – THE WEEK AHEAD Monday: Corowa, Warren Tuesday: Kembla Grange, Moree Wednesday: Warwick Farm Thursday: Taree, Wagga Wagga Friday: Dubbo Saturday: Royal Randwick, Newcastle Sunday: Wyong, Sapphire Coast â– â– â– â– â– ROSEHILL SNAPSHOT – RON DUFFICY RUN OF THE DAY Kerguelen resumed off a long spell in testing conditions doing an admirable job winning. He probably has the most upside moving forward to go through his grades. FORGET THEY RAN Pure Alpha hit more than a couple of snags in the run never really getting fully balanced. Given a clear run with momentum he probably would have won. HORSE TO FOLLOW It's hard to get carried away following horses off wet tracks but King's Secret and Liberty State were both quite dominant in their wins on the day and have more to offer.

Boys Night Out secures trainer Matt Dunn his 39th Highway victory at Rosehill after 46-week drought

Leading country trainer Matt Dunn ended a 46-week drought Highway drought when Boys Night Out made light work of his opposition at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday. Dunn, the state's most successful Highway Handicap-winning trainer, last won one when Cranky Harry saluted at Royal Randwick on July 13 last year. Boys Night Out 's 1500m win was Dunn's 39th Highway victory and winning jockey Aaron Bullock said the four-year-old gelding has bigger things ahead. 'It's not often you get one that's a standout in a Highway but today I was confident that was the case,' Bullock said. 'He was dynamite. He's better than a Highway horse.' Bullock's only concern during Saturday's contest was a foreign object being carried by Anna Roper aboard Straight Fire. 'In the early stages Anna (Roper) crossed me with the towel flapping all over the joint,' he said. 'She must have forgotten to get rid of it before the race and it wasn't until after we'd gone about 400m, when luckily she'd crossed me and gone down to the fence, that the towel went flying.' That's a sign for the boys! 🕰 Boys Night Out cruises to victory in the TAB Highway for @mattydunnracing and @Aaronbullock90! @aus_turf_club | @HsktBloodstock â€' SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) May 31, 2025 Boys Night Out made use of barrier two, never further than a few horses off the speed before being eased out into clear running from the top of the straight and the race was quickly put to bed. The son of Nay Nay Never (USA) started the $2.80 favourite and defeated My Last Hooray ($13) by 3¾ lengths with the $3.20 second favourite Warrior For Peace a half-length back in third. 'Soft draws always help and I was able to put him into the perfect spot, he got into lovely rhythm and I was saying 'woo boy' at the corner,' Bulloch said. 'He was getting through the ground really easily and it was a case of going at the right time and in the end it didn't matter because he had plenty on them.'

Tony Gollan recalls the day he realised Gollan would be a future star

Antino is the reigning Queensland Horse Of The Year, has won a prized Victorian Group 1 and raced in the big show in Hong Kong. But incredibly, his Group 1 Doomben Cup mission on Saturday will be the first time he has raced at Doomben since 2022. That was the day that Tony Gollan realised he could have a future Group 1 star on his hands. It was New Year's Eve, 2022, and Antino lined up as the $1.40 favourite in a modest Benchmark 72 Handicap over 1615m with Jimmy Orman in the saddle. It was the manner of the win – being slow away and then being widest in the straight and surging around them to score from nowhere – that made Gollan take notice. 'It was his last run at Doomben where I really thought he was a topliner,' Gollan said. 'It was bizarre because it was only a low grade Benchmark race. 'The rail was out a bit that day and it was a tough day to come from right back and circle them but that's what he did. 'I remember that race like it was yesterday. A big win from Antino who gets up in the last stride for @tonygollan! — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) December 31, 2022 'After that race I remember thinking this could be my next Group 1 horse 'It was a nothing race and he was better than the opposition, but the task he did was amazing. 'Jimmy took off on him a fair way out, similar to how you see him getting ridden now. 'He had to cover a huge amount of ground which can be particularly hard at Doomben 'He was able to sustain this big long run to get the job done and he had a good bit of weight on his back as well.' Antino might not have raced at Doomben in an eternity, but he is two from two at the track which shouldn't pose any huge problems for him, especially if Pride Of Jenni is playing catch-me-if-you-can up front. Gollan has planned the Doomben Cup mission for some time, keen to turn Antino from a sprinter-miler into a middle distance-staying type of horse. The Doomben Cup has appeared on Pride Of Jenni's radar in more recent times. • Gollan sprinter's 'time to shine' for Stradbroke ticket However, Gollan knows his great mate Ciaron Maher is a master trainer and Pride Of Jenni will be a tough nut to crack. 'A Group 1 horse is a Group 1 horse and it wouldn't matter what sort of preparation she has, Ciaron wouldn't have put her on a plane and sent her up here if she wasn't up to the mark,' Gollan said. 'I am fully respectful of Pride Of Jenni coming here.' Jockey Blake Shinn has produced some daring rides on Antino, most recently in the Hollindale Stakes when he won after taking off and swooping around the entire field. Shinn knows better than anyone the huge motor Antino has and how he can sustain a sustain a gallop for longer than other horses. Gollan is unlikely to tie the magician Shinn to many specific instructions on Saturday. 'If Blake doesn't know how to ride him now, depending on how the race unfolds, he never will,' Gollan said. 'He has ridden him enough times and he knows what the horse can and can't do. 'Blake can do whatever he wants to do to get the job done. 'We are not warming up for anything else later in the carnival, this is the race we have set Antino for.' Queensland's chief steward Josh Adams on Friday morning advised that all Doomben Cup runners had been passed fit by vets to take their place in the $1.5m Group 1. .

2025 Doomben Cup runner-by-runner form assessments and $26 on top tip

The $1m Doomben Cup has drawn together a high-class field of weight-for-age performers, with a field of 13 runners declared for the 2000m contest. Here is a runner-by-runner analysis of every horse set to line up on Saturday. â– â– â– â– â– Queensland's best galloper comes into this off a dominant win in the Hollindale Stakes on a track that was like a ploughed paddock, so some query over that form. In saying that, he did win the Toorak late last year in a similar manner. Genuine Group 1 horse on trial at 2000m but he wasn't stopping at the Gold Coast and he's unbeaten at Doomben. VERDICT: One of the leading chances. Antino wins the TAB Hollindale Stakes in dominant fashion! ðŸ'Š @tonygollan — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) May 10, 2025 2 – LINDERMANN He's a real query runner here. Kicked off the prep back in February and in five Sydney runs he was around the mark against the likes of Via Sistina, Fangirl, Arapaho and Dubai Honour. Then went to the Gold Coast and was a shadow of that horse on the bottomless bog. Conditions are expected to be better but which horse do we see? VERDICT: At his best he's got winning claims. The champ Via Sistina claims the G1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes with ease, equalling Winx's record of 7 Group 1's in a season! 🤩 What a mare! @cwallerracing | @mcacajamez | @YulongInvest | @aus_turf_club | @WorldPool — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) April 12, 2025 3 – FAWKNER PARK He finished behind Lindermann in three Sydney runs during the autumn, but he turned the tables on that horse when second to the dominant Antino in the extremely testing ground on the Gold Coast last time out in the Hollindale Stakes. His record on good-rated tracks is exceptional (17:8-1-1) so he's suited on the better ground, and he excels at 2000m. VERDICT: Ticks plenty of boxes. She's just the best! Via Sistina makes it back-to-back Ranvet Stakes and notches up her 7th Australian G1 victory! ✌ï¸ @cwallerracing | @mcacajamez | @YulongInvest | @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) March 22, 2025 4 – BOIS D'ARGENT Won this race last year and has come back this preparation in great order. Finished close up behind Ceolwulf on the heavy in the Neville Sellwood before winning the JRA Plate over 2000m at Randwick. Ventured north and despite previously running well on heavy ground, he struggled in the Hollindale Stakes, probably in the worst part of the ground. VERDICT: He's not the worst. Bois D'argent leads all the way in the G3 JRA Plate! ðŸ'¨ @ANeashamRacing | @Brown_ethan8 | @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) April 19, 2025 5 – MILITARIZE Returned this prep from a failed stud career and took a few runs to strike any semblance of his old form. It came third-up in the Doncaster when he got within 1¼ lengths of the winner Stefi Magnetica. Then had five weeks between runs into the Hollindale Stakes and while an accomplished heavy track performer, he was never a winning chance, plodding home into fifth out in the better ground. VERDICT: His best would have him in the mix but not sure where he's at. Stradbroke winner Stefi Magnetica reigns supreme in the G1 Doncaster Mile, as @BBakerRacing and Jason Collett celebrate another success ! 🙌 @aus_turf_club | @WorldPool — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) April 5, 2025 6 – MY OBERON High class weight-for-age performer that lands here set to peak third-up. His best Australian form has come over 1600m, he failed when down the track in the Cox Plate of 2023. When formerly trained in the UK back in 2021, he did finish fourth, beaten 3¼ lengths in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes (2000m). His last run was good with 60kg and he's placed in the past two King Charles III Stakes (1600m). VERDICT: Has the class to win this and drawn to get his chance. Epsom winner Ceolwulf with a huge run wins the G1 King Charles III Stakes in front of a record crowd at Randwick! @PrideRacing | @SchofieldChad @aus_turf_club | @WorldPool — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) October 19, 2024 7 – KOVALICA He's the biggest tease in Australian racing. Caught the eye when getting home from near the tail in the Hollindale Sakes, out in the best ground, to finish third. He was also good resuming when beaten 2¼ lengths in the George Ryder Stakes (1500m). Now fourth-up, he should be at his top and he's a winner over 2000m. Fact remains, Saturday is six days shy of his two-year anniversary since his last win in the 2023 Queensland Derby. VERDICT: Capable but has a habit of disappointing. Gringotts gets his first G1 win in an epic edition of the George Ryder Stakes! 🙌 @cmaherracing | @TommyBerry21 | @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) March 22, 2025 8 – ELIYASS Created a great impression during his first Australian campaign last spring, winning three Sydney black-type races, including the Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) before finishing third in the Turnbull Stakes (2000m) then failing in the Caulfield Cup and Champions Stakes (2000m). Stable said he wasn't ready first-up and he flopped badly on the bottomless track in the Hollindale. Tongue tie on but how do you line him up? VERDICT: Couldn't have him but it wouldn't shock all the same. Yasss! A great finish to the G3 Kingston Town Stakes, with Eliyass adding another win to his impressive record! Bring on the Metrop! @clarkyhk | @GaiWaterhouse1 — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) September 21, 2024 9 – Not a prolific winner but he's come back in great order this preparation. Went to the paddock a winner of the January Cup (2000m) in Sydney before returning with a commendable ninth in the All Aged Stakes (1400m). Then stepped up to the mile last time and was an improved second in the Hawkesbury Gold Cup. Not as well served at weight-for-age but going well and 2000m is a plus. VERDICT: He's one for the First4s. Punch Lane leads all the way in the G3 @hawkesburyrc Gold Cup and wins in style!ðŸ† That's also a double to @nashhot ðŸ'° @FreedmanRacing — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) May 3, 2025 10 – KLONDIKE Former European galloper that is a multiple black-type winner, his biggest success came in the Group 3 Prix De Reux (2500m) at Deauville last August. Was hard in the market in his Australian debut but failed to run up to expectations when only beating one home, beaten more than eight lengths, in the JRA Plate (2000m). Could be a sharp improver, watch market. VERDICT: Impossible to line up, betting will be your best guide. Klondike gets the job done! It's Prix de Reux success for @WilliamHaggas and @CSoumillon, as this four-year-old hits the front and charges home for Group 3 honours... — At The Races (@AtTheRaces) August 3, 2024 11 – FLOATING – SCRATCHED 12 – PRIDE OF JENNI One of the best racehorses in the land in recent seasons. She arrives here the winner of two from three this preparation, first-up in the Peter Young Stakes (1800m) and then last start in the Anniversary Vase (1600m) where she lumped 61kg at Caulfield. Well served at weight-for-age, she'll give them something to catch. VERDICT: At her best she wins but she's been a bit hit-or-miss this season. SHE'S BACK! ðŸ˜ Pride Of Jenni is back to her best with a win in the Anniversary Vase at Caulfield! Bring on the Doomben Cup. @cmaherracing @craig_newitt — 7HorseRacing ðŸŽ (@7horseracing) May 3, 2025 13 – MISS JOELENE Local mare that has a good record at Doomben but this is by far the hardest race she's ever contested. Won The Wave over 1800m back in January and she was Group 1-placed at three in the Queensland Oaks (2200m). Lands here off a solid fourth in the Hollindale Stakes, although beaten more than six lengths. VERDICT: This looks too rich. Tenzing wins the Brisbane Mile! A great @Reganbayliss ride for @tonygollan. — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) April 26, 2025 â– â– â– â– â– CLINTON PAYNE'S DOOMBEN 10,000 TIPS 1st – MY OBERON (No. 6) 2nd – FAWKNER PARK (No. 3) 3rd – ANTINO (No. 1) 4th – PRIDE OF JENNI (No. 12)

Sapphire Coast preview, best bets, inside mail for Sunday, May 18, 2025

The Barbara Joseph and Paul and Matt Jones-trained gelding Conjoin is ready and able to reward his loyal band of followers when he seeks to shed his maiden status at start number 12. A son of the lightly-raced Wyong 2YO Magic Millions winner Unite And Conquer, Conjoin has been both costly and consistent ahead of the Cooma Cricket Club Country Boosted Maiden Handicap (1010m). 'He had a bit of a head cold after his last run so we freshened him up, he had a couple of weeks of soft work, and his last gallop with Billy Owen on board was excellent,'' co-trainer Paul Jones said. . @GraemeWhiteSky 's tip Aqualina's Starâï¸kicks off the card at Albury! @BlaikeMcDougall â€' SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) March 21, 2024 The Form: Complete NSW Racing thoroughbred form, including video replays and all you need to know about every horse, jockey and trainer. Find a winner here! Conjoin is an exceedingly well-bred horse; his third dam is the aptly-named Special who won 10 races in total including the Lightning Stakes and Newmarket Handicap double as well as the Gadsden, Moir Stakes and Bobbie Lewis. The Joseph/Jones entry in race two, Wauchope, also boasts a champion within her family tree. Her third dam, Zephyr Zouba, was the mother of the AJC Derby winner and Japan Cup placegetter, Naturalism. Wauchope managed to turn a last into a first in the space of one run to the next, both here at the Sapphire Coast, and while the win was a shock for most punters, those close to the filly weren't surprised. 'It was a very good win from that wide gate,'' Jones said. 'It was very hard to maintain speed on that track, it was very gluey, as people later in the day found out that it was hard to lead that day which is anti-Sapphire Coast.' Wauchope's connections, including the Logan Livestock boss Richard Logan, had the choice of two races this weekend, electing the shorter Benchmark 58 over (1010m). 'Jake (Barrett) got off her and said she's that so fast, it wouldn't matter if you put her in a 1000m or 1200m, so we accepted in both races but we just went with the better draw,'' Jones said. Wauchope holds on, winning in a tight photo finish for the @JJRacing_ACT stable! â€' SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) May 4, 2025 As well bred as the abovementioned duo are, another of their stablemates headed to the Sapphire Coast could challenge both in the blue blood stakes. The horse in question is Ceremonious who lines-up in the eminently suitable Monaro Cup (1613m). Ceremonious is a son of the two-year-old Triple Crown winner Pierro while his third dam, Flying Floozie, is one of only a trio of horses to have been crowned New Zealand Broodmare of the Year three times. The others being the immortal Eight Carat and Songline (dam of Sunline). Originally trained by Chris Waller, Ceremonious turned in a brave and determined on-pace third at Wagga on Town Plate Day in a 1400m Class 2. 'It was an excellent run,'' Jones praised. 'We haven't pushed him too hard and to see him be very keen in the bridle and be competitive up on the speed, obviously that augurs well going to the Sapphire Coast.' The step up to the mile is a logical and perfect next step for the horse according to Jones. Apart from being bred on a 4x3 double cross of Zabeel, Ceremonious' two wins have been at 1830m at Eagle Farm and 2000m, winning his 2000m Canberra Maiden by four lengths. SHAYNE O'CASS' TOP SELECTIONS BEST BET Race 2 No. 2: THE UNIQUE STAR Big winner on debut at Albury; runner-up there next time. Trialled well for the return. NEXT BEST Race 5 No. 2: LETHAL LADY Ran far above where she was credited for in that Benchmark 58 at Wagga last time. VALUE BET Race 3 No. 10: SUPERIOR FUN Gives the impression that the mile suits now after a closing second here on May 4. QUADDIE Race 4: 2, 4, 8 Race 5: 2, 5 Race 6: 1, 10, 14 Race 7: 1, 2, 9 JOCKEY TO FOLLOW Rebecca Bronett-Prag has a good book of rides. INSIDE MAIL - SAPPHIRE COAST CONJOIN (5) is something of a rarity in as much as his dam is by Rory's Jester who won a Golden Slipper 40 years ago. As for Conjoin, he's been costly and consistent in equal measure with five placings from 11 starts. He's an on-pacer drawn 4 in a 1010m race so no excuses. SESTO (1) was born and raised at Emirates Park; his fourth dam was the mother of the great Shaftesbury Avenue. Sesto led and faded on debut at Orange but it was a take no prisoners war up front. THE UNIQUE STAR (1) was $1.40 on debut at Albury on November 21 last year and won accordingly. He was back there on December 14 and was runner-up and spelled. Won a very deep Heat at Goulburn on May 8. Nice horse. WINNIE FORTUNE (7) did some good things at her first preparation including a third to Beer Baron and a win over Cougars. In good hands. WAUCHOPE (6) was big odds when she won her last start but it was no shock to her trainers. Bet: The Unique Star to win RACE 3: Diggers Bobcat Hire Mdn Plate 1613m SUPERIOR FUN (10) has been with Anthony Mountney for the last three of her six career starts. In that time, she has two seconds and a fifth. This is her first time to a mile but look at that build-up; 1209m, 1300m and 1410m. EVOKES (2) is unplaced in all five starts but they have contained merit to varying degrees. This is a suitable and attainable race for him as well. I AM A ROCKSTAR (4) is fit, ready and in-form for the mile from the favourable draw. CRAFT (4) has won or placed at nine of his 14 starts. He won as recently as two starts and better still, he was a tough on-pace third in the Highway at Hawkesbury on Cup Day. Barrier 2 is just the dream scenario for the horse. GATCHAN (8) has a powerful finish but more often than not, the Sapphire Coast favours those who race closer to the speed and the inside fence. Doesn't totally rule her out though. CEREMONIOUS (3) ran a big race at his first one for the Joseph/Jones barn. Every little step-up in trip suits him. Bet: Craft to win, box trifecta 2, 3, 4, 8 LETHAL LADY (2) has won five times with seven placings from 33 starts on her resume. She has been known to get back, when drawn wide, and that was very much the case when she jumped from 14 of 14 in a Wagga 58 on Cup Day. She passed half the field and did it weaving her way through some heavy traffic. Drawn 3 here. SNOWY (5) is another one who ran on Wagga Cup Day and ran better than what the form guide would attest. As it stands, she did run fifth in the Queen Of The South at Benchmark 66 level. DUBAI CENTRE (1) has a huge weight but rates 64 in a 58. Bet: Lethal Lady to win, exacta 2 to beat 5, quinella 2, 5, DD 1st Leg 2, 2nd Leg 9 LONDON STAR (10) is trained by Theresa Bateup who has led in 83 winners at the Sapphire Coast at a very high strike-rate of 16.7 per cent. This Vinery Stud-bred has contested some strong races in her eight starts; Urafiki won one of them, Welcometobarbados another. Beaten narrowly here last time. Go well again. DE RAZILLY (14) deserves so much credit and praise for her debut second here, keeping in mind that she was a two-year-old taking on older horses and got close to Giza who is pretty handy. Terrible draw though. HELL OF A FOX (9) is a regally-bred filly; her fourth dam is Canny Lass who, of course, was a sister to Canny Lad. was building up to that impressive win at Wagga on Cup Day rolling as long odds-on favourite. Snappy Jim boasts some decent numbers at the track and the distance. Has his share of weight but is both honest and reliable. Reigning Bong Bong Cup winner ARANCIONE (2) has won five from 16, one of them was here at the Sapphire Coast while racing first-up. Big watch and respect for ASTROGAZER (6). Bet: Hell Of A Fox to win SAPPHIRE COAST BEST BET Race 2 No. 2: The Unique One Big winner on debut at Albury; runner-up there next time. trialled well for the return.
