Rodgers names his 'favourite performance' of Celtic's 2024/25 season

The Parkhead side pulled off a landmark Champions League victory against a team who, at the time, were flying high in the Bundesliga. Although Christoph Baumgartner opened the scoring for the visitors on 23 minutes, Celtic rallied, and thanks to a brace from Nicolas Kuhn, were ahead at the break. Read more: Reo Hatate then found the back of the net with just under 20 minutes to play, putting a seal on the three points. "That's my favourite performance of the season," said Rodgers on Sky Sports' end-of-campaign Celtic programme that was aired on Friday evening. "Because at the very highest level, we had taken on a team who had an outstanding manager in Marco Rose, Leipzig, who had been in the Champions League for a number of years and had some fantastic players, and we demonstrated at the highest level every part of our game. "We went behind in the game. We showed the courage to counter-press and press the game. We go 2-1 up at half-time, then go 3-1 up. In the second half, we played some amazing football. "And I think the comments from some of the players afterwards, talking about our performance and how they felt in the game, that's what I always wanted for my team." Celtic eventually went on to finish 21st in the league phase of European football's premier club competition. They qualified for the knockout-stage play-off only to be eliminated by Bayern Munich courtesy of a last-minute Alphonso Davies goal. Rodgers' men will have to negotiate a nerve-shredding play-off tie to qualify for the Champions League proper in the forthcoming season.

Melissa Reddy speaks out on 'abuse' after Sky Sports dismissal

Reddy has been the face of Sky Sports' Premier League coverage over the past three years - but she has now confirmed that she has left the broadcaster Ousted Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy has announced her decision to focus on her literary pursuits following her departure from the network after three years. And she took aim at those who abused her during his time with the satellite giants. ‌ Reddy, a seasoned journalist from South Africa, has been instrumental in delivering some of the biggest Premier League headlines, with a particular emphasis on Manchester United and Liverpool during her tenure at the broadcaster. ‌ However, her exit was confirmed earlier this week, alongside six other colleagues, including the well-known presenter Rob Wotton, who had been with the channel for 27 years hosting the now-cancelled Football Show. In addition to Wotton, presenters Teddy Draper and Jasper Taylor are set to leave Sky this summer, bringing an end to their 18-year and 11-year stints, respectively. Jeremy Langdon, a veteran reporter, will also conclude his 20-year career at Sky Sports News. Two other departures were also revealed, senior reporter Fadumo Okow and a news editor will bid farewell to their roles. Reddy's decision to leave arguably marks the most prominent of all these announced exits. ‌ Reddy took to Instagram to pen a lengthy post, announcing her decision to move on and pursue writing as a full-time career: "ELEVENTH!!! season of Premier League coverage done and I've called time on three years at Sky. I'll still be doing bits and bobs for them. "But I'm genuinely soooo excited to share all the things I'll be working on soon, which will allow me to focus on my strengths and passions. For those that have BEEN asking for the past five years, YES - that will include new books." Reddy also spoke candidly about the abuse she has endured throughout her career as a sports reporter. She admitted that the situation hasn't improved since her early days in the industry but expressed gratitude for the supportive messages she's received. ‌ "After the first press conference I covered in England all those years back, a journalist turned to the press officer and said 'why are you letting them come over here and take our jobs. You just want a little lick, don't you?!'" Reddy recalled. "I would love to be able to say that things have changed in that regard, but alas... the abuse as a foreign woman of colour in this sphere never ceases. I will always be stronger than the hate; I know who I am, I know the substance of my work. ‌ "You can't dim the light of someone who learned how to shine in the dark. The messages I've received from managers, players, club staff, my Sky and wider industry colleagues - people who know me, my journey and sacrifices over the past decade - carry more weight than any of the nasty noise. Let's cook." Several of Reddy's former colleagues have wished her well. Formula 1 presenter Natalie Pike commented: "Thank you for always shining a light for the women in our industry." Commentator Pien Meulensteen extended their well-wishes saying, "Good luck looking forward to seeing what you get up to next."

Sky Sports axes 'The Football Show' to attract younger viewers, Jurgen Klopp's favourite show 'Ref Watch' to air in new format

Sky Sports' "The Football Show," a long-running program aired every Monday, has been scrapped ahead of next season. The decision has reportedly dismayed staff and comes as Sky aims to attract younger viewers through YouTube influencers and social media personalities. Hosted by Rob Wotton alongside co-hosts Stephen Warnock and Sue Smith, the show dissected Premier League weekend events and featured Dermot Gallagher's "Ref Watch" segment. The "Ref Watch", a favourite of former Liverpool manager and regular viewer Jurgen Klopp, will continue in a new format. According to Sky Sports, the changes are intended to make the channel more agile and the new developments will ensure the channel concentrates on breaking news stories, but decision has reportedly left Sky Sports staff "dismayed." Dermot Gallagher hosted "Ref Watch" dissected controversial refereeing decisions from the weekend. Channel officials are hoping to attract more YouTube influencers and fans with big social media followings with Sky switching up the way it approaches its shows. It is believed the changes will make the channel "more agile and able to concentrate on breaking news stories". Live Events Some staff members have been left "bewildered" by the decision making process. This follows a number of chopping and changing in recent years. Sky already axed a number off fan-favourite presenters on their Soccer Saturday panel show. The channel later gave it a new look. The long-running Soccer AM was scrapped in 2023. Sky was recently involved in a row with Nottingham Forest. This occurred after pundit Gary Neville was banned from their final day clash with Chelsea. The ban stemmed from Neville's controversial comments about the club's owner, Evangelos Marinakis. Neville said he was forced to withdraw from the coverage after failing to receive accreditation from Forest. "I've had no choice but to withdraw from the coverage. I've dished out my fair share of criticism and praise in the last 14 years of doing this job and have never come close to this unprecedented action." Economic Times WhatsApp channel )
