Marvel 1943: Rise Of Hydra Delayed To 2026, To Deliver 'Best Possible Experience'

Skydance New Media has remained tight-lipped about its upcoming title, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, since the initial announcement—and now, the game has officially been delayed. More than a year ago, during Epic Games' State of Unreal showcase at GDC 2024, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra was revealed in collaboration with Skydance New Media. The title came as a complete surprise at the event, with its unique conflict featuring Black Panther and Captain America injecting new energy into the Marvel brand. Today, Skydance New Media confirmed that the previously announced 2025 release window has closed, and the action-adventure game is now scheduled for 2026. In a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, Skydance Games wrote: 'We have an important update: Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will now be launching in early 2026. Taking this additional time will allow us to add more polish and make sure we give you the best possible experience, one that lives up to our vision. We have some exciting things in store and look forward to sharing more soon!' It's worth noting that neither Skydance Games nor Marvel has shared anything new about Rise of Hydra since the game's announcement trailer in March 2024. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is being developed using Unreal Engine 5.4 and was likely showcased during the State of Unreal presentation to highlight the engine's visual fidelity. Unreal Engine 5.4 launched one month later, in April, and has since been used in high-profile projects including Avowed, Killing Floor 3 and Eternal Strands. The announcement trailer for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra can be viewed below. Aside from the official announcement trailer and a few plot details shared at the time, Skydance New Media has remained virtually silent about Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, but the studio says it 'looks forward to sharing more soon.'

Amy Hennig's 'Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra' is delayed to 2026

The adventure game Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra has been delayed until 2026, according to a statement by publisher Skydance Games. The title was supposed to come out sometime this year. What's the reason for the delay? The publisher says it's to "add more polish," which is never a bad thing. I'd rather a fully-finished game upon release than a buggy mess. The company does say it'll be available in the early part of 2026, so that isn't too long to wait. Still, it's disappointing news for eager Marvel fans. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is a narrative-driven adventure game with four playable characters, including long-time icons like Black Panther and Captain America. As the name suggests, it's set during World War II in occupied Paris. It's being developed by Amy Hennig and her new studio, which is a subsidiary of Skydance. If her name sounds familiar, that's because she's best known for being a creative director and writer at Naughty Dog. Hennig was the lead writer on all three Uncharted games and was creative director for the Legacy of Kain franchise. She's got a fantastic pedigree, so this new Marvel game could be a heavy hitter.

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Marvel games have been very successful in recent years, with smash hits like Marvel's Spider-Man (and its follow-ups, Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2) and Marvel Rivals both seeing massive success among fans and gamers. The success of these games has been followed up by many more Marvel games entering development, and one of the games supposed to launch this year has just been delayed. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), developer Skydance Games revealed that Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, has been delayed into early 2026. The developer says that it's taking more time to polish the game and make it "the best possible version," and one that "lives up to [the company's] vision." Important update regarding MARVEL 1943: Rise of Hydra. — Skydance Games (@SkydanceGames) May 13, 2025 The game was being headed up by industry legend Amy Hennig, the creator of the Uncharted series and a key developer on Legacy of Kain, Jak and Daxter, and Battlefield Hardline, among many others. Hennig had previously been working on a Star Wars game called Project Ragtag with EA development team Visceral Games, which unfortunately shut down before development could be completed. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra was originally planned to be released at some point in 2025, and more details were revealed for the Marvel game late last year, with a first look at the game's Wakanda setting. "Wakanda at this point in time is hidden away from the outside world and protected by this impenetrable jungle," Hennig told Entertainment Weekly at the time. "They are non-interventionist, but events transpire that pull them into the conflict. They have to protect their interests. The world is getting smaller. No satellites yet, but there will be soon. You can shoot down planes that maybe want to fly over Wakanda, but how long can you stay in the shadows?" No specific platforms have been announced for Marvel: 1943, but it's expected the game will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra takes GTA 6's lead and moves to 2026

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra has been delayed from its initial 2025 release until 'early 2026,' according to a social media announcement from its team. There has been little to no news about the game in recent months, so the delay doesn't come as much of a surprise. The team also didn't reveal the exact reason for the delay. 'Taking this additional time will allow us to add more polish, and make sure we give you the best possible experience, and one that lives up to our vision,' the post reads. 'We have some exciting things in store and look forward to sharing more soon!' Recommended Videos This is the second highly anticipated game to move out of the 2025 holiday season, following in the footsteps of Grand Theft Auto 6. It joins a lineup of other notable games that were meant to launch in 2025, including Fable. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra delayed to early 2026 — Wario64 (@ 2025-05-13T13:21:16.349Z The good news? It sounds like Skydance Games might have a new trailer to share soon, giving us another look at the title. Details have been few and far between, but we know Marvel 1943 is set to be a narrative-driven action game set in the 1940s. It was first shown at Epic Games' State of Unreal event at GDC as part of a tech demo, an impressive display of graphics that made it look almost like another Marvel movie. The official page for the game reads, 'In the chaos of war, worlds collide. Captain America and Azzuri, the Black Panther of the 1940s, must overcome their differences and form an uneasy alliance to confront their common enemy. Fighting alongside Gabriel Jones of the Howling Commandos, and Nanali, a Wakandan spy embedded in Occupied Paris, they must join forces to stop a sinister plot that threatens to turn the havoc of WWII into the ultimate rise of Hydra.' The game sounds like players will be setting foot inside the MCU, and that's something we can get behind.
