White Elephant offers Nantucket, Palm Beach travel deal with Slate Aviation
The Palm Beach boutique hotel White Elephant on Sunset Avenue and a locally based shared-charter aviation company are engaged in a collaboration aimed at offering travelers enticing perks. It's part of a new partnership between the hotel's parent, Boston-based White Elephant Resorts — which also owns hotels in Nantucket, Massachusetts — and West Palm Beach-based Slate Aviation. Through October, guests of the 32-room-and-suites White Elephant in Palm Beach and its Nantucket sister hotels can receive $250 off one-way fares on Slate's semi-private charter flights between Palm Beach and Nantucket. They also are entitled to a gratis six-month four-person membership ($395 value) to Slate Aviation, whose aircraft offer private-terminal departures — bypassing TSA security-check lines — and 18 business-class seats in all. Meanwhile, flyers with Slate Aviation, the new marketing name of Tri State Aviation, receive 15% off room rates at White Elephant Palm Beach, 180 Sunset Ave., and its Nantucket sisters. The Nantucket properties include the White Elephant Nantucket, The Wauwinet, Jared Coffin House, and Cottages & Lofts at the Boat Basin. 'Many of our guests already divide their time between the two islands (Palm Beach and Nantucket) and this collaboration makes that journey more effortless than ever,' Ashish Verma, executive vice president of White Elephant Resorts, told the Daily News. 'It's about extending the signature White Elephant experience of service, style and hospitality from one beloved setting to the next.' Slate Aviation officials agree: 'The White Elephant and Slate share a similar clientele interested in superior hospitality, convenience and sophistication,' company co-owner Heather Maguire told the Daily News. 'And with a presence in both Nantucket and Palm Beach, we saw that they were a natural route-launch partner for an all-business class airline offering nonstop service between the two destinations.' Slate's planes fly non-stop to and from the Northeast from Palm Beach International and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International airports. Slate serves Westchester County Airport in New York and Nantucket Memorial Airport in Massachusetts, among others. This isn't the first partnership Slate has forged with a Palm Beach-connected business. This past spring, Slate partnered with popular Palm Beach restaurant Buccan, 350 S. County Road, led by seven-times James Beard Warad chef-nominee Clay Conley. Buccan signed on in May to provide Slate's custom inflight menu for flyers, a 'fun new challenge,' Conley said at the time. Such partnerships provide a 'special, personalized experience for our guests,' Slate's Maguire said. Cheeseburgers in paradise? Fast food is coming to your next first class flight
Digging into fast food faves is now an unexpected first-class flex. Airlines are turning to fast casual brands to enhance their in-flight dining programs, especially in premium cabins. Most notably, Delta Air Lines launched a first-of-its-kind collab with Shake Shack in December to bring the chain's popular cheeseburgers to first-class cabins on domestic flights of more than 900 miles. Mimicking their on-the-ground predecessors, the cheeseburgers, which must be selected ahead of time, are made with a 100% Angus beef patty, topped with cheese and served on a toasted potato bun. Extras include tomato, lettuce and Shack Sauce, 'natch. But no fries with that, at least for now. Delta Air Lines launched a first-of-its-kind collab with Shake Shack in December. IanDewarPhotography – The cheeseburgers are served with Shake Shack-branded chips, a Caesar salad and a custom brownie — a nod to the chain's beloved Shack Attack Concrete dessert featuring chocolate frozen custard, chocolate chunks, fudge sauce and brownie pieces. According to Stephanie Laster, managing director of onboard culinary experience at Delta, bringing the cheeseburgers onboard required 'many taste tests' at the Shake Shack Innovation Kitchen in New York to determine which menu items would work best at 35,000 feet. The process also went through 10 rounds of R&D development before menu offerings were finalized. 'Both our Delta and Shake Shack teams were intentional about wanting the burger to taste exactly like what you would get at any Shack streetside,' Laster said. 'It's a complex process to do that. There's a lot of science behind it because we're using the exact same ingredients as the Shake Shack team does.' The cheeseburgers have been a big hit with passengers, becoming the most ordered pre-select item in their markets. And this summer, more passengers will be able to get their hands on one, thanks to the Atlanta-based carrier's expansion of the collab into an additional eight hubs, including New York JFK, for a total of 13 airports starting on June 3. Sweet-toothed travelers flying first class with United Airlines, meanwhile, go bananas for a tasty treat from New York City's cult favorite Magnolia Bakery: The eatery's beloved banana pudding, which has been available on select flights since December. Buccan's hearty gourmet sammies are available (via pre-order) on all-business class cabins of Slate Aviation. Slate Aviation The new kid on the (butcher's) block: Buccan Sandwich Shop, an award-winning South Florida eatery by Chef Clay Conley, a seven-time James Beard nominee. Since mid-May, a selection of Buccan's hearty gourmet sammies — including a turkey club, burrata caprese sandwich and a Maine lobster roll — are available (via pre-order) on board the swanky, all-business class cabins of Slate Aviation, a West Palm Beach-based shared charter operator. 'It's the attention to detail Clay and his team bring, paired with unpretentious, delicious food — for example, the best jumbo chocolate chip cookies you've ever tasted — that creates the perfect blend of indulgent and fun,' said Heather Maguire, co-CEO of Slate.

This Semi-private Airline Just Launched Flights Between Florida and Nantucket—With Business-class Seats, Michelin-starred Dining, and No TSA Lines
Semi-private air operator Slate Aviation has launched new summer service between West Palm Beach and Nantucket. Flights include roomy business-class seats, catering from Michelin-starred restaurants, and no stressful TSA lines. Flights run through September 30 and are as low as $695 per private from Palm Beach has always been available to those of certain means—I get to watch Air Force One and Elon Musk's jet fly over my head on a weekly basis—but now, thanks to a new partnership between XO and West Palm Beach–based Slate Aviation, it's becoming more accessible to the other 99.9 percent. From April 26 through Sept. 30, Slate Aviation will run shared private shuttle service to Nantucket (ACK) from Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) and Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL). The new Nantucket service builds upon existing shuttle operations between South Florida and New York, including Westchester County Airport and other member-only terminals. The best part? You can book these luxurious semi-private flights by the seat rather than chartering a full aircraft. So instead of a price in the mid five-figures, you can hop aboard for fares starting at $695 per seat—and you can book it all from an easy-to-use app. I was so stoked on the prospect that I grabbed a seat on a snazzy Bombardier CRJ-200 during the inaugural weekend of flights between South Florida and Nantucket. And after experiencing travel the Slate way, I can confirm the term 'shuttle' doesn't quite do justice to this service. The flights are the epitome of luxury, with just 18 oversized seats (all business class); free Wi-Fi; catering by my favorite local five-star restaurant, Buccan; and a basket of snacks that puts all commercial airlines' offerings to shame. There's no TSA lines or boarding aggravation. There's just a brief walk from the lounge of a private terminal onto the plane, a safety briefing by your captain, drink orders taken by two smiling flight attendants, and then you're airborne. Maybe even ahead of schedule: an unexpected perk of flying semi-private is that your flight can depart early if all the passengers are present, giving you more time to soak up a Nantucket afternoon—even if that afternoon is a dreary introduction to the island's nickname, The Gray Lady. (Luckily, my flight coincided with the island's annual Daffodil Festival, so the sea of locals in cheery hues, 'Happy Daffy!' greetings, and millions of yellow daffodils in full bloom brightened our days despite the cold, wet spring weather.) I brought a girlfriend along and only had 24 hours to explore on this first-time visit to Nantucket, but since the island is only seven by 14 miles, that's enough time to hit the highlights. We stayed at The Brant, popped in to see the iconic 26-foot-tall Brant Point Lighthouse, grabbed ice cream scoops from The Juice Bar, and a bite from Straight Wharf Fish. Now, with only three (pampered) hours separating tropical Palm Beach from the Northeastern flower-filled daydream that is Nantucket, I have a feeling the two islands will be seeing a lot more of each other this summer. Slate Aviation flights between South Florida and Nantucket will take place two days per week through May 31, then five days per week June 1 through Sept. 30.
