Six kittens dumped in rubbish tip named after Friends TV characters
The six smelly cats - Monica, Pheobe, Rachel, Ross, Joey and Chandler - have been adopted by their new families. Six 'smelly cats ' who were found dumped in a rubbish tip have been named after characters from the hit sitcom Friends. The kittens were found all suffering from severe malnutrition, flea, worm infestations and eye infections when they were rescued from Eyemouth Recycling Centre in the Scottish borders on May 27. The four-week-old kittens were nursed back to health by Borders Pet Rescue. Inspired by their strong bond the three males and three females were named after the TV show Friends - Monica, Phoebe, Rachel, Ross, Joey and Chandler - which featured a song 'Smelly Cat' about a mistreated pet. A member of the public contacted Centre manager Kim McNeill after finding the kittens at the recycling centre in a " heartbreaking scene". She said: "While working at the site, he found a tiny litter of kittens abandoned in the rubbish tip. Thankfully, he had rehomed cats through us before and knew exactly who to call. "When the six kittens arrived, they were estimated to be around four weeks old. "All were suffering from severe malnutrition, flea and worm infestations, and painful eye infections. They were frightened, weak, and understandably wary of human contact." Kim said they "acted quickly" with their vet team providing immediate medical treatment for their eyes and taking care of the parasites. She continued: "But their journey to recovery didn't stop there. These kittens needed more than medicine - they needed time, patience, and love. "Fortunately, one of our amazing foster carers stepped in and gave the kittens a safe, nurturing environment where they could begin to trust again. "Over several weeks, they slowly gained confidence, learned how to play, and experienced the warmth of a home for the first time." Once they turned eight weeks old, and became healthy the rescue began looking for their forever homes. Kim added: "Inspired by their strong bond and the laughter they brought to us, we named them after characters from the sitcom Friends, the three girls were called Monica, Pheobe, Rachel and the three boys were named Ross, Joey and Chandler. "Their story captured hearts on social media, helping us raise £4000 for their veterinary care and spread the word about their search for loving families." The six kittens have now been adopted into "wonderful homes". Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. Lisa Kudrow Makes Bold Admission About Her Time Working on 'Friends'
Lisa Kudrow Makes Bold Admission About Her Time Working on 'Friends' originally appeared on Parade. The revelation that just shattered every 90s kid's heart has me questioning everything I thought I knew about our beloved Phoebe Kudrow's latest confession about portraying the quirky masseuse-musician on proves that even our most iconic TV moments required more work behind the scenes than we ever imagined. Speaking with Parker Posey for series, the 61-year-old actress delivered a truth bomb that has fans everywhere doing double takes. Kudrow revealed that bringing Phoebe to life was actually "a lot of work" because the character was "so far from who I was as a human being." For those of us who grew up believing Kudrow simply channeled her inner free spirit every Thursday night, this admission feels like discovering Santa isn't real all over again. The actress explained she had to mentally justify everything Phoebe said to make it feel authentic: "I needed to justify everything she was saying in my head so that it felt like she meant it and it was real to her." The most mind-blowing part? According to People, Matt LeBlanc apparently told Kudrow during Season 2 or 3, "What's the matter with you? You're her. You don't have to," when she worried about not doing enough preparation. The irony that Joey Tribbiani had to remind Phoebe's actress to relax is peak Friends makes this revelation particularly fascinating is how Kudrow's dedication to craft created one of television's most memorable characters. Her six Emmy nominations and one win for Phoebe prove that sometimes the best performances come from actors stretching far beyond their comfort zones. Kudrow also shared insights about the cast's real-life dynamics, crediting Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, and LeBlanc with modeling "respectful communication" that kept their six-way friendship functional. "We really did get along," she confirmed, "We also worked hard at being friends." For 90s kids who've rewatched Friends countless times on streaming platforms, learning about Kudrow's internal process adds new layers to appreciate. Every "Smelly Cat" performance and Central Perk conversation now feels even more impressive knowing the thoughtful preparation behind Phoebe's seemingly effortless eccentricity. 🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬 Lisa Kudrow Makes Bold Admission About Her Time Working on 'Friends' first appeared on Parade on Jun 9, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Jun 9, 2025, where it first appeared.
