43 Impactful-Yet-Quick DIY Upgrades For Your Kitchen

Some matte-steel cabinet pulls for a modern touch to those cabinets that were likely installed when you were in kindergarten. Even if you don't consider yourself a handy person, this is a super easy DIY. A Cerama Bryte cooktop cleaning kit so you can finally get rid of the gunk that seemed like it would never come off of your stove. Some stove burner covers to help you catch the mess right away on gas stovetops. Or just cover up some chipped or sorry-looking stovetops. (I live in a rental with a white gas stovetop that def has some unsightly chips on it, so I can relate!) A magnetic stove shelf that's the perfect amount of room to keep your most-used spices so you don't have to go digging in your cabinet while the oil is literally poppin' on your stove top. Some wood polish and conditioner that'll revive worn-out wood surfaces like cabinets and floors. Those cabinets may have decades of wear and tear but they don't have to *look* it. A wood scratch cover to hide all those dings and scrapes on the original trim and doors that've been around longer than you, and have SEEN some things. A set of wood repair markers can hide smaller scratches. (I used some of these on scratches on my *own* kitchen cabinet doors in my rental apartment, and they totally blended in with the stain.) A container of touch-up paint that'll help cover up all those chips and marks that seem to follow you around the room like one of those portraits where the eyes look straight forward. This is so so so much easier than doing a full paint job. A set of fridge organizers because you're spellbound by #FridgeTok videos and yearn for your own appliance to be as blissfully organized as those stars. And these'll prevent all kinds of spills! A set of under-cabinet lights to bring a modern touch to any outdated cabinets that you wish you could replace. This'll instantly make your kitchen look *so* expensive. A SnapPower GuideLight will optimize your regular old outlets instead of a night-light that you have to plug into an outlet that you always have to unplug the coffee grinder or do other tasks. Some cabinet and drawer liners can protect your kitchen essentials from unnecessary wear and tear — even if your kitchen cabinets seem to be older than your grandma. Reviewers especially like that the bottom of the liner is grippy instead of sticky to stay put without leaving behind a mess. A jar of the The Pink Stuff — a cleaning paste made to handle all kinds of sticky, stuck-on situations like this nasty-looking stovetop. Scrape away and lift any leftover crud by the previous tenants or owners with the help of this jar. A drill brush cleaning kit that'll attach to your drill/driver for an informercial-like cleaning sesh that'll have you seeking out all the dirty surfaces you've been ignoring. This'll handle all the elbow grease. A incredibly powerful grout cleaner can erase years of nasty buildup that you've just come to live with over the years. Plus, a grout pen will fake some squeaky clean, stainless grout for stuff that's been there awhile. Or, like this reviewer did as seen in these pics, let you change the shade of your grout as you'd want! A slim cutlery organizer here to prove that, yes! You do have room for all your cutlery in your tiny kitchen drawer! Scoot over, forks. (Yeah yeah yeah, your drawers are *hidden* but they still make such a huge different in your kitchen!) Spice strips for transforming your regular old drawer into a ~custom~ spice drawer. Come on, doesn't it look quite nice?! A bottle of Goo Gone foaming spray will help you win the good fight against greasy spills and messes. Your oven is about to get a makeover. A corner sponge organizer because you need 'em within reach... might as well make 'em look a bit tidier! Also, having them *right there* versus stashed in your under-sink cabinet will help motivate you to get to any hand-washing ASAP. A set of silicone-coated kitchen utensils that are nice-looking but neutral enough to blend in a bit with everything in your kitchen. A *vinyl* runner that looks like a vintage Persian beaut but'll easily wipe up because spills WILL happen. An expandable under-sink kit can fit around awkward pipes in the kitchen or bathroom while giving some sturdy ground to those bottles of cleaner and rolls of toilet paper. No more cabinet avalanches! A tea bag organizer — to hold 100 bags, so you can finally dedicate your tea shelf to other things. A set of measurement decals you can glance at rather than googling "how many teaspoons in a tablespoon" for the millionth time. (BTW, the answer is three.) A bottle of plant-based stainless steel cleaner and polish spray (that comes with a microfiber cloth) for a low-lift transformation. You lucked out with stainless steel-appliances in place — which so happen to be $$$. Their upkeep shouldn't be! A small compost bin/trash can will hang on a cabinet door for easy hiding and use. The lid lifts up *or* flips over for easily dumping as you food prep. In fact, I bought this for my tiny NYC apartment kitchen as a trash can and adore it. An accordion-like pots and pan organizer can easily adjust with your growing organizing needs. (Even that griddle pan you just had to buy.) Some mounted wine racks for a storage solution that'll make getting a post-work pour that much easier. Plus it'll be a super easy way to display any especially decorative glasses. A set of adjustable mug organizers that'll help you better use your kitchen cabinet space *and* also keep your mugs safer since they fit on top of a mug, creating a setup where you can safely stack a second mug on top instead of googling replacements. A charming fruit hammock you can screw onto the underside of your kitchen cabinets to clear up some counter space and put your farmers market haul on display. A cabinet door organizer to help corral your boxes of food wrap and cutting boards. A plastic bag dispenser that'll bring some order to your kitchen drawers. A pack of adhesive cord bundlers you can stick on the back of your kitchen appliances to keep power cords orderly instead of tripping up you (and your kitchen countertop setup). Fridge bin liners will absorb extra moisture in an effort to keep your produce fresher for longer. PLUS, they'll catch the brunt of messy spills and will be so much easier to clean than taking a drawer out of the fridge and awkwardly scrubbing it down in your sink. A slim, slide-out caddy that's skinny but tall enough to place in the weird little space between your fridge and kitchen cabinets. This is also perfect for the stuff you put in the fridge but you don't really need to stash in the fridge. Some peel-and-stick backsplash "tile" you can apply on a blank wall for a fraction of the price of *actual* tile installation. A pair of kitchen sink strainers to catch all those lil' chopped onion bits that always end up in your sink. An attractive storage rail you can hang up where you need out in the open because it looks *that* nice! A stackable can rack to help your pantry look like a grocery store of staples. A conversion kit that'll let you hang some statement pendant light or a gorgeous mini chandelier if you wrinkle your nose at minimalist recessed lighting. A window film that'll still let in SO much light while giving you a bit of privacy in your kitchen — especially if a neighbor's window looks RIGHT into yours. (Really, that's only cute in sitcoms.) A broom and mop organizer you can mount on a closet or pantry wall for a tidy "after" so you won't worry about an avalanche when you open that door. You know what I'm talking about.

44 DIY Home Products That Make You The Handyman

Cordless no-drill Roman shades that'll be a breeze to install (reviewers say it took less than 10 minutes)! Renters and homeowners alike love them because you don't have to drill into the wall for installation. NoNo Brackets, aka curtain rod brackets that fit onto your existing blinds so that you don't have to fool with drilling any holes and having to spackle them later or (!!!) get charged when you move out of your rental. Now you can finally put up the curtains you've been eyeing for a minimal amount of work. A special brush can keep your dryer's lint trap clear of debris and make drying cycles/the appliance more effective for longer. If you aren't already cleaning out the lint trap with every cycle, grab this before calling out a repair person. Some dishwasher-cleaning tablets can get rid of residue that ends up creating odor and buildup on your dishes. You were lucky to score an apartment with a dishwasher but if it's not super effective, what's the use?! These are honestly so cheap that you'll wanna *add to cart* rather than texting your super to come by for a look. A sturdy Pikk-It tool with sharp metal teeth that'll un-ensnare tangled hair from your vacuum cleaners, hairbrushes, and even your beloved round brush dryer. Raise your hand if you've ever broken a seam ripper cleaning a vacuum cleaner. (Meee.) An oil stain remover capable of annihilating that grease stain that you thought made your garage or driveway a goner. No need for a professional assessment! A foaming garbage disposal cleaner to throw in your sink (the whole packet!), turn on the water, and watch fizz up as it does the tough work below on all the gunk that OTHER PEOPLE have let build up in your disposal. A jetted tub cleaner you simply run through in a bath cycle and just watch the filth (from previous tenants) EMERGE from the pipes. Then you simply wipe it away! It'll be equally horrifying and satisfying. Worth it. A SnapPower GuideLight will optimize your regular old outlets instead of a night-light that you have to plug into an outlet that you always have to unplug the coffee grinder or do other tasks. No need to call in an electritian about adding lights! A set of Snug Plugs if your hair dryer plug keeps falling out of the bathroom outlet and you're starting to wonder if you need to get a pro involved. These little contraptions make a snug fit between outlets and plugs to keep 'em where you want. Washing machine-descaling tablets can work on both top- and front-loading machines to erase any lingering mildew smells — whether you've had this machine for ages and want to keep it running 'til the day you die. Or you got a steal on a used machine and now you know WHY. Or if you prefer a liquid solution, a citrus-y Oh Yuk washing machine cleaner that'll work on all washers. Say buh-bye to random debris and nasty smells emanating from your machine. The Pink Stuff Spray in case you're extremely into the OG cleaning paste and have wondered out loud, "Hm, I wonder what else they make." Well, THIS! Now you can sort out your icky oven situation before calling up a pro (and waiting around for the appointment). A bottle of dog-spot repair if your puppy has a favorite pee spot and it shows... This stuff will get new grass growin' in no time so you can get back to hosting BBQs. An under-$50 12-inch showerhead here for a little daily luxury. And if you've been blasted by a rainfall shower in a hotel before, no worries. This has an adjustable flow that'll give you that or some gentle precipitation. And yes, you can handle installation! A carpet cleaning solution with results so impressive (just cast your eyes below this text!) that you may have to bleep out your own reaction. Get ready to break up with your carpet cleaner rental spot. Remember when your carpet was beige instead of greige? Stain-lifting pads will tackle the icky pet stains on your wall-to-wall beige carpeting from when your poor dog didn't want to go use the bathroom outside when it was storming. A standing weeder (without the chemicals!) to help improve your view of your yard. You're not the only one who has trouble enjoying weed-filled scenery. If you normally recruit someone to weed for you because you can't comfortably (or simply don't enjoy) bending down to do it, you'll ADORE this tool. And a crack weeder tool that'll go where the larger weeder (and your hands!) can't if you're not opposed to getting down on the ground to weed, as long as the weeding is far more efficient! Some interlocking teak tiles to cover up a hard surface that, tbh, is beyond visual help. They're great for rental properties because you can take them apart and take them with you when you move! A weather-resistant cedar pathway you can roll out along garden beds or other paths where your family (including the members with paws) tends to tread and wear down the grass. There's really no "installation" here, so it's a beginner-friendly task! Luigi's Sink and Drain Plunger — a mini plunger can find a spot under sinks around your home for when your roomie's meal-prepping routine wreaks havoc on your kitchen sink. Grab this and use it in the same amount of time it takes you to google a plumber. And Green Gobbler Drain Clog Dissolver that'll do a far better job of clearing your bathroom or kitchen drains than the super well-known brand you usually grab. Because clogs never happen at convenient moments. And sometimes your landlord or super can't stop by to help out when you need it. Solar lights you can stake along a walkway or pond right where you need 'em. Lighting is key for getting more use out of your outdoor space. Oh, and they look nice in the daylight too! A roll of perma-mulch to use around your garden beds and *keep* there because this stuff (made of recycled tires) imitates wood mulch but won't need replacing. If you have trouble sitting still while there's yard work that needs doing, you'll especially appreciate this. Some bleach-free outdoor cleaner to spiff up your walkways and other surfaces you can likely tackle before you break out the pressure washer. Its foamy formula is totally safe around your precious plants. And if cleaner alone won't work, some concrete paint for a refreshed look that'll make a HUGE difference. A six-outlet wall charger can comfortably fit all the chargers you require. Plus! it has two USB fast-charging ports *and* a night-light. So this could be a solid solution for realizing that you don't have enough outlets on the days you and your partner both work from home. An expandable under-sink kit will fit around awkward pipes in the kitchen while giving some sturdy ground to those bottles of cleaner. No more cabinet avalanches! Also, permanent cabinet changes can be quite pricey. A carpet cleaner to transform all sorts of soft surfaces in your home BESIDES your carpet (though it'll do amazing work there too). Turns out, you don't need to buy a new couch after that huge accident. OR rent out a pro carpet-cleaning machine for about half the cost of this beaut. (You'll def use it more than twice and get your money's worth.) Some magnetic garage handles and faux windows that'll bring some serious curb appeal to your home for an EXTREMELY small fraction of the price of getting some carriage-style doors. They're pricey as heck. These magnets are not. A rechargeable, stick-on LED wall light will move with you when you want, even if you've just changed your mind within the same apartment or got a rude surprise at a lease renewal. It has three color temperatures, is dimmable, has a sleep timer, and is controlled from an app. A renter-friendly Tulip shade that'll easily pop over your boob light (or other similarly sized ceiling-flush light you detest). You simply mount a ring on the ceiling with double-sided tape and put on the magnetic shade. An Angry Orange pet odor eliminator for erasing all the visual (and smelly) evidence of pet accidents on flooring and furniture. You don't need a new chair. You just need this. A "stained glass" decal to position on front-door windows, transoms, possibilities are nearly endless! It'll obscure the view into your home a bit without going whole hog like a blurred window cling that obscures the view on both sides. Also, it just looks really nice! A magnetic dishwasher cover can help you transform that magical appliance as a design focal point if no matter HOW much you clean your washer, it just doesn't shine like you want. A roll of wood grain tape to slap on as a "frame" on your bathroom or wall mirror to make your space feel a bit more intentionally designed — even if you inherited a bunch of someone else's design choices. Some pre-made wall panels that'll attach with a nail gun and glue (or Command strips). What's next? Your cover story for Arch Digest. A USB-powered, stick-on LED light strip can help improve your TV-watching experience by bringing in a bit of ambient light to your personal theater. You've already got your TV and shelves just where they work, so no need to try and rearrange everything so your movie nights are more enjoyable. Reviewers say this makes quite the impact! A wireless library light to put a spotlight on any new wall art, or to just really jazz up your existing gallery wall that needs a little something else. A pack of cabinet pulls with some nice detailing that'll make them seem like you ordered them from RH for $30+ a pop instead of adding them to cart along with some toilet paper and mascara. Kitchen cabinets take up a WHOLE lot of visual space and cost a bunch of money to replace. Swapping out your pulls can make a big difference! Some vinyl picnic table and bench covers will help your OG picnic table in your yard look more presentable while protecting you from splinters. No need to think about a swap or hiring someone to sand down the bench and paint the table. A Scumbug to help keep your pool from getting too gross too quickly after you've done the FULL clean (or paid someone to do said full clean) and opened it up for the season. It soaks up sunscreen, oils, and other gross stuff enjoying your backyard retreat. When it gets discolored, simply wring it out, rinse it, and then put it back in its watery home. And a grout pen you can use to work some *cheap magic* over a sweeping amount of visual space on floors and backsplashes with a huge impact for just a bit of your time. I should know. I've done it to my bathroom floor and find it lasts about a year!

If You're Itching For A New Home Project, These 44 Things Will Help You Make One Happen

We hope you love our recommendations! Some may have been sent as samples, but all were independently selected by our editors. Just FYI, BuzzFeed and its publishing partners may collect a share of sales and/or other compensation from the links on this page. Time to do something about that lumpy couch in your den. 1. A bottle of dog spot repair if your puppy has a favorite pee spot and it shows... This stuff will get new grass growin' in no time so you can get back to hosting BBQs. Promising review: 'We purchased this to fill some patches in our backyard that were damaged by our puppy. Works like a charm. The one caveat is that you really do have to water it a bit every day. Once it takes off though, it grows pretty quickly! Within one week of planting this, we had 1-inch long grass blades. One month later, all the patches are gone. Highly recommended!' — Jessica N. Get it from Amazon for $19.99+ (available in five sizes). 2. Some bleach-free outdoor cleaner to spiff up your walkways and other surfaces you can likely tackle before you break out the pressure washer. Its foamy formula is totally safe around your precious plants Reviewers have successfully used this on fences, mesh outdoor chairs, Sunbrella chair cushions, decks, vinyl siding, and cedar siding. Promising review:"I first used this product about two years ago on the awning on my RV. That awning was so bad that I thought I was going to have to replace it. After using this Scott's product as directed, the mold and mildew completely disappeared. This product definitely works and it works GREAT! What more can I say — it saved me nearly $500." — R. Latreille Get it from Amazon for $10.98. 3. A pumice cleaning stone that'll remove all sorts of stubborn rings that've been staring at you every time you're in the washroom. Nope, you do NOT need a new toilet. Your OG just requires some zhuzhing. Promising review:"I have very hard water that leaves hard-water buildup and nasty stains. It's embarrassing to have guests over because the toilets are so gross! I have tried so many products and cleaning solutions — from natural essential oils to harsh chemicals so strong I was lightheaded for the rest of the day. Well, I tried out this pumice stone after reading about it in a BuzzFeed article, and honestly the hype is real! It does take some elbow grease, but the after picture is from only 20 minutes of scrubbing, light enough that I didn't break a sweat! The stone does get used up, but I think this one should last me a couple years at least. So if you have embarrassing toilets, try this!" — Stephanie Ray Get it from Amazon for $15.99+ (also available in a pack of two and four). 4. A SnapPower GuideLight can optimize your regular old outlets instead of a night-light that you have to plug into an outlet that you always have to unplug the coffee grinder or do other tasks. Amazon SnapPower is a small biz that specializes in unique and innovative lighting products. Promising review: "I ordered this after seeing it on TikTok. I'm very happy with this product!" — Miss. Harris "Game changer. When I get up, I don't want to wake everyone up with flipping on lights and all. These provide plenty of walking through the house light. Super easy installation, too." — Monica Martinez Get it from Amazon for $22.98 (available in three outlet styles and four colors). 5. Some pre-made wall panels you can attach with a nail gun and glue (or Command strips). What's next? Your cover story for Arch Digest. Reviewers attached these in different ways, with some just using mounting tape in apartments for no damage to walls. Others installed them on doors and kitchen islands! Promising review:"Moldings came in well-packed and quickly. It was super easy to install. Used White Lightning Speed Grip to adhere the panels. These panels gave a high-end look to an otherwise drab wall and peninsula. So classic and affordable and it will never go out of style!" — JM Get a single panel from Amazon for $12.15+ (available in sets and 17 sizes). 6. A handheld steam cleaner (perfect even if you're in a small space and that's how you can afford to live solo) with a nearly 10-foot-long cord to help you get at all sorts of greasy, stuck-on messes sans chemicals. Promising review: "Cleaned stove top and the hood vents. Then, I had to clean the sticky grease from the sink. Worked very easily and without chemicals. Easy to use and to refill. The attachments make various jobs easy to clean." — Lori Get it from Amazon for $55.99. 7. A bag of polyester stuffing that'll bring new life back to your furniture and throw pillows that seem to be on their last leg — yep even a leather sectional couch you're considering replacing. Psst, I did this a few months ago with my circa-2017 West Elm velvet couch that I've been mulling over replacing and it looks sooooo much better now. (And thus, inspiring me writing this story.) Am I kicking myself for not taking before-and-after pics? Absolutely. Promising review:"Ok, so I had been looking into buying a new couch, but I only wanted a nice leather one, and they are SOOO EXPENSIVE. I decided to try and fix ours, and I am SOO HAPPY with the results!! I cut open each of the three sections of the inner cushions of each back cushion, restuffed them, and sewed them back up. It took me about a day and a half. I want to get some furniture foam to plump up the seat cushions (but that is another project and significantly more money), but the end result is a HUGE improvement! The couch looks (and feels) a million times better! Wish I done this years ago! the first 'before' pic has a back cushion already stuffed because I didn't think to take a pic 'til after I already stuffed a cushion. If you are thinking this won't work (like I was), you are wrong. DO IT!!!!" — Geoff Get it from Amazon for $13.49+ (available in several sizes. 8. A drill brush cleaning kit can attach to your drill/driver for an informercial-like cleaning sesh at the flip of a switch that'll have you seeking out all the dirty surfaces you've been ignoring. Includes three brushes that'll attached to a standard handheld drill. The white is a soft bristle, best for wheels, carpet, upholstery, glass, and leather; the yellow is a medium bristle, best for bathroom, bathtub, shower, tile, and porcelain; the green is a medium bristle, best for kitchen, stoves, cabinets, countertops, and linoleum; the blue is a medium bristle, best for boats, pools, canoe/kayaks, hot tubs, and plastics; the red is a stiff bristle, best for outdoors, siding, brick, garage, and gutter; and the black is a hard bristle, best for grills, loose paint, furnaces, ovens, and industrial use. Drill Brush is a small business based in New York! Promising review:"I'm in love with this. I manage many apartment properties and finding people to do the cleaning has been tricky business, so I end up having to get in and clean these horrendous filth pods tenants lived in and left me to deal with when they move out. The ovens and stove tops are usually the worst, and I absolutely hate cleaning. I came across this drill attachment set, and let me tell you, it helped me tremendously! I still had to get in with a putty knife on some of them but it really cut down my elbow-grease time. If it wasn't for this drill attachment, I think my arms would have just fallen off trying to clean it as good as I did! My only con would be that it doesn't have any extension of any sort, so I really had my drill all up in that oven, but well worth it." — alicia haats Get it from Amazon for $18.95 (available in six bristle types). 9. A wineglass-washing dishwasher attachment in case your dishwasher isn't equipped with a way to keep a wineglass upright and in place OR you don't have enough for your needs. After all, hand-washing stuff you don't absolutely have to is pretty annoying. Amazon, Wine Wash Co. is a woman-owned small biz that specializes in dishwasher attachments. Promising review: "I had a hard time finding wine glass holders for my dishwasher. My previous dishwasher had built-in holders, but my current dishwasher does not. I got tired of having wine glasses break during dishwashing cycles. These holders are sturdy and fit the bill for standard glasses. They can fold up when not in use. I would not use them for expensive Waterford crystal wine glasses, but they are perfect for everyday glasses. A must-have for wine drinkers!" — Alicia Get a set of four from Amazon for $15. 10. A jetted tub cleaner you simply run through in a bath cycle and just watch the filth (from previous tenants) EMERGE from the pipes. Then you simply wipe it away! It'll be equally horrifying and satisfying. Worth it. You run your bath, add the cleaner, watch the gunk emerge, drain your bath, and then clean off the gunk! Promising review:"I own a 400 gallon Rio jacuzzi and I purchased this product based on the favorable reviews. I am a clean freak and I thought I did a pretty good job of cleaning my Jacuzzi. I must say that I put 8 ounces into my jacuzzi, turned the jets on, and ran them for an hour. I was absolutely amazed of the crud and scum that was floating on the top of the water. I cleaned and drained the jacuzzi and repeated the process a second time. My spa is sparkling clean and I have already ordered another bottle. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT." — Dodger01 Get it from Amazon for $18.73+ (available in two sizes and a two-pack). 11. A ceiling fan carbon filter will make your breezy BFF work even harder for you. This filter attracts and grabs dust, pollen, smoke, dander, and other allergens as the fan spins. And because it goes on *top* of the blades, only you'll know it's there. Promising review: "I wasn't sure what to expect when purchasing these, but now they are a staple in every room of our house. Within three days the air smelled more crisp and was easier to breathe in our home. So simple and effective!" — Haylee Marez "We have these on every ceiling fan in our house and have noticed such a difference since installing them! There is less dust on our furniture, and the general air quality in our rooms has improved. There is no longer dust build-up on our fan blades. Super easy to install!" — Hannah McClam Get a three-pack from Amazon for $19.79. 12. A dishwasher magnet so everyone in the house is on the same page about whether it's OK to eat off a plate that's in the dishwasher and you don't spend 10 hungry minutes quizzing everyone on its status. Promising review:"I got this because my mother has dementia and she kept putting away dirty dishes 🤦🏽‍♀️. And believe it or not she has actually been using it and it definitely has been working! So I highly suggest buying this for parents or someone you know who has a similar problem!" — Raquel Get it from Amazon for $6.64 (also available in six colors). Also check out a version that's completely silver without the red or green for $20.95. 13. Some interlocking teak tiles to cover up a hard surface that, tbh, is beyond visual help with that you don't need tools to install. They're great for rental properties because you can take them apart and take them with you when you move! Promising review:"Living in Hawaii you have to select wise items that are weather-, salt-, and red dirt–proof, etc... In total I ordered 11 boxes to complete my yoga deck. I have a few left over to make steps on the back. Very pleased and happy. May order more for an outdoor shower project!" — Adazzle Get 10 sq. ft from Amazon for $81.99. 14. An oil stain remover capable of annihilating that grease stain that you thought made your patio pavers or walkway a goner. Promising review:"We had a 2005 truck parked on our paver driveway for years. The area in the photo was thick with oil leak residue. I tried several products that didn't make any difference. But with the "Pull It Out" product, the oil is gone! You can see the stark difference in the photo, with the area that was treated and the area that was not. This goes on as a liquid; it absorbs the oil from the bricks as it dries. Then I lightly scrub and hose it off, and voila! Gone! Even better, it's biodegradable!! I rarely post reviews for a product, but this product earned it. This is the best I have seen for taking leaked oil out of a driveway." — Robocop Get it from Amazon for $17.97. 15. A rust-stopping spray paint you can use to refinish tired metal furniture for a weekend afternoon project that'll have substantial payoff. Just look at that zhuzhed garden gate! Promising review:"I used this Gloss White to paint an old garden arch, gate and a trellis over a garden bench. It was just a dreary, tired black; the white changed the look and feel instantly. Definitely get the trigger grip accessory if your project takes more than one can — mine was eight cans and that grip was a great paint is a true bright white with a bit of a shine after it dries. I did have to do two full coats to completely cover the original black wrought iron, but there's no color bleed through as a result." — Dogs & Horses Get it from Amazon for $6.94+ (available in a variety of metallic colors). 16. And some outdoor fabric spray paint (yes, you read that right) can refresh your outdoor pillows and cushions. This will especially come in handy if your have oddly shaped or custom outdoor furniture cushions that are really hard to replace. The Home Depot Promising review: "Pricey but worth it! My patio cushion covers would have cost a fortune to replace, given their unique shape. This is the ONLY fabric spray that has EVER held true to its promise of preserving the fabric's original soft texture. Shake Suddenly Sapphire well, it will need at least three coats for an even application because it comes out very fine. Example: I needed one whole can for the first coat on the tops and sides of two cushions. At $14 a can, it can get up there, but it's still better than replacing cushions!" — Juanita Get it from The Home Depot for $14.98 (available in eight colors). 17. A conversion kit that'll let you hang some statement pendant lights or a gorgeous mini chandelier if you wrinkle your nose at minimalist recessed lighting. It has an about six-step installation process and includes all the parts you'll need. The brace adjusts to any size between 4' and 6' and fits the standard base sockets. They can be used on sloped ceilings up to 45˚, works in damp locations, has a 50-pound maximum load rating, and is paintable with no visible screws or hardware. Promising review:" This was a pretty easy installation considering the work is on the ceiling. I've been wanting to change out the two can lights over my sink for years, so I started investigating the easiest possible way to do so. Ran across this item, and watched the video on YouTube. What the heck, I thought! Rewatched the video before installation, looked at the directions on both the converter kit and the pendant light, gathered the necessary tools described in all instructions, and set upon my mission. The hardest part (for me) was getting the self-tapping screws started. I'm pretty pleased with the outcome, I must say! By the way, I'm a 55-year-old female who has worked at a bank all of my life. Yes! It was that easy. I would highly recommend it." — Trisch Reeve Get it from Amazon for $24.99. 18. Or a renter-friendly Tulip shade you can easily pop over your boob light (or other similarly-sized ceiling-flush light you detest). You simply mount a ring on the ceiling with double-sided tape and put on the magnetic shade. Tulip is a small biz from Lori Smyth. Her inspiration? The drab lighting in a college dorm! Her innovative design requires no re-wiring, no power tools, no nothing! Check out the different styles and how easily they install via Tulip's TikTok. My colleague Chelsea Stuart has tried and loves this: "I just had a chance to try one of these and I am simply OBSESSED. I live in NYC in a rental and I have a really drab light in my kitchen that even an electrician couldn't get off of the ceiling without breaking... so I gave up on replacing it right after I moved in. Alas, fast forward a year and I found Tulip on TikTok! Instantly, I thought 1. This is absolutely genius and 2. How has no one come up with this before?!?! "Installing" it (installing makes it seem way more involved than it is) took all of 10 minutes and that includes removing it from the box, Command Strip-ing the ring to the ceiling, and then popping the magnetic shade in place. (Honestly, the thing that took me the longest was fishing my step stool out of the depths of my junk closet.) Not only is the shade itself beautiful, but the diffused light is just so soft and pretty. I can't wait to get another one for my entryway!!!" Promising review: "I have been searching for a paper lamp or replacement for my current apartment lights, but they either wouldn't fit or it would require too much effort that my landlord wouldn't appreciate. That's when I came across Tulip. I can't be more blunt than this — you literally Command Strip the ring to the ceiling and the shade attaches via magnet... seriously ingenious." — Oliver O. What's included: Ceiling mount, Tulip shade, 12x removable tape, and 3x screws (as needed for textured ceiling applications). Get it from Tulip for $149 (check out other styles here three styles). 19. A power washer to give your outdoor surfaces (and even your siding on the back of your house) an oh-so-satisfying "after." Promising review:"Great product! Next up the driveway..." — Trent Get it from Amazon for $199. 21. A roll of faux ivy you can attach to ugly wire fencing, railing, or a trellis to obscure a view you don't love. Heavy-duty cord wraps to help fashion some storage for extension cords and hoses out of thin air. All you need is one of these, some empty wall space, and a nail or hook! Also, disorganized cords are a trip hazard. Let's avoid that. Amazon Promising review: "I was sick of my cords and compressor hose hanging off of and on top of my table saw. I saw these on Amazon and have (or had) some available wall space in my workshop. What a great solution!" — LrngToFly Get a six-pack from Amazon for $16.99 (available in other sizes and quantities). 24. A roll of perma-mulch you can use around your garden beds and *keep* there because this stuff (made of recycled tires) imitates wood mulch but won't need replacing. If you have trouble sitting still while there's yard work that needs doing, you'll especially appreciate this. Promising review: "This faux mulch border was just what I was looking for. I wanted something simple (not elaborate) to keep my bark in place. This is so so so much easier than doing a full paint job. Just make sure that the paint is a match! Promising review:"Rather than ditching furniture into a landfill, which is bad for the environment and one's pocketbook, this product allows you to give new life to existing furniture. Between the Soto touchup and new handles, my entertainment center looks like less than $35. If you can use liquid paper, you can use this. I just ordered another bottle for porcelain. This is a fantastic product. You will love it!" — LexiNYC Get it from Amazon for $18.95 (available in 24 colors). 28. Plus, a grout pen to fake some squeaky clean, stainless grout for stuff that's been there awhile. Or, like this reviewer did as seen in these pics, let you change the shade of your grout as you'd want! Promising review:"I installed an expensive soft white tile (if there is such a thing) floor in the kitchen when I bought my house. At the time, it was a new product and it was beautiful – that fuzzy, warm feeling changed the first time I dropped a fork. I have been so frustrated no wanting to rip up and put down replacement tiles. The grout pen made it look new again, I am thrilled with the results!" — K. Robles Get it from Amazon for $8.99+ (available in two sizes). 29. An expandable under-sink kit can fit around awkward pipes in the kitchen or bathroom while giving some sturdy ground to those bottles of cleaner and rolls of toilet paper. No more cabinet avalanches! Promising review:"I like this so much that I actually just ordered another one for under the bathroom sink. Not only did it tidy the clutter and make items easier to find at first glance, but also made it possible for me to store another few items below the sink, including the spray cleaners I use for my countertops. I didn't configure it around pipes (as I see can be done), but actually used the flexible shelving options to place taller or larger items directly on the floor of my under-sink storage — rather than on the lowest shelf (see last photo) — to maximize my storage possibilities and keep regularly used items accessible. I also didn't fully extend the shelving, just as suggested by the manufacturer for stability purposes ... and still found it offered ample storage. Easy to assemble, with some flexibility for shelf height and placement — highly recommend!" — Amazon Customer Get it from Amazon for $22.87+ (available in three finishes). 30. A roll of wood grain tape you can use as a "frame" on your bathroom or wall mirror to make your space feel a bit more intentionally designed — even if you inherited a bunch of someone else's design choices. Promising review: "Where do I start? I absolutely LOVE this product. I wanted to replace our bathroom mirror, but due to the size, it would have cost a lot! I came across this on Amazon and decided to give it a try. The application process was super easy and applied without bubbles as long as you go slow and rub it down as you go. I kid you not. It looks like wood and feels like it, too! You can feel and see the 'wood grain.' It's absolutely stunning and looks like I bought a whole new mirror." — Taylor Get it from Amazon for $7.92. 31. Some magnetic garage handles and faux windows that'll bring some serious curb appeal to your home for an EXTREMELY small fraction of the price of getting some carriage-style doors. Seriously, just stick them on like you do magnets on a fridge. Your neighbor who thinks everything is a competition is going to have some questions. Amazon Promising review:"I've been wanting to upgrade our garage door for a long time, and now I have no idea why I waited! The magnets are super strong. Purchased two sets but only used one set of 'handles,' I wasn't a fan of how close I had to place each set next to each other with the narrow spacing on the door itself. Paired with the magnetic 'windows,' it looks like a brand-new door!" — MrsPirate Get them from Amazon for $14.34+ (available in several sets and variations). 32. A special brush to keep your dryer's lint trap clear of debris and make drying cycles/the appliance more effective for longer. Amazon, Also, built-up lint is a fire hazard! Make this a part of your weekly cleaning routine. Promising review:"This brush is stiff but flexible enough to feed under my dryer's lint filter. Several weeks ago a trouble light came on that indicated the air flow in my dryer was becoming obstructed. I had the dryer vent and area under the lint filter cleaned. (Not much lint was pulled out, so maybe the dryer sensor gave a false alarm.) I felt a small investment in a brush such as this is better than paying for a future vent cleaning. I've been using it once a week and it picks up a little lint each time, but that's lint that won't have a chance to build up in the dryer vent!" — blueskys Get it from Amazon for $5.45. 33. Some chalked paint that'll transform all sorts of furniture and surface eyesores. That dresser with the horrible stain color? Np. Promising review:"This paint works marvelously for staining interior brick! I researched for a long time and looked at many project reports for staining a raw brick fireplace. Finally, I committed to this chalk paint and my fireplace looks better than any I have seen elsewhere. I diluted it to a half paint, half water ratio, applied one coat with a brush, and worked it into holes and crevices with a sponge. Very easy to do, especially if surroundings are appropriately protected from the very thin splashy paint." — maina donaldson Get it from Amazon for $25.16+ (available in 18 colors). 34. And if you want a total kitchen transformation, a cabinet paint kit that requires ZERO stripping or priming *might* make you wonder if you're in someone else's house before you've had your coffee. The kit comes with two cans of cabinet paint, a roller arm, two roller covers, and an angled paint brush; it requires no stripping, priming, or top coat or sealer, and there's no need to remove your cabinet doors. Promising review:"Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! Did take more than one coat though. My cabinets were bare wood and I still needed a couple of coats. (Five to be exact, but that was just me being extra.) My kitchen is medium-sized, not too big, and it only took up one can. But I still went over a couple more times just to get a nice coating. I also let it sit for some days and saw the wood was sucking up the paint in some areas so I went over it again. The project ideally does take one day like the promotion video says, but one day as in 24 hours. This took my kitchen from looking like a cheap rental apartment kitchen to a high-quality kitchen with just this paint and new knobs. The paint is perfect for cabinets — it's not too thick, so you still see the wood grains. It comes with EVERYTHING you need. I didn't have to buy a thing. The project is super easy, paint dries fast, and I did it at first by removing the cabinets but it wasn't necessary at all. Just make sure you don't leave any dripping because it would make your cabinets look cheap. I would recommend EVERYONE to purchase this and give your cabinets a chance before making a big investment in new cabinets. Wood is wood and it can be refinished." — Brandon Moronta Get it from Amazon for $65.80+ (available in many colors). 35. A portable fabric shaver reviewers have used for sweaters, coats, and other garments BUT can really go to town on pilled parts and loose threads on your furniture to make it look way less worn. I used this gadget to de-fuzz a coat that I FORGOT isn't mean to be fuzzy. You can read my full fabric shaver review here. Promising review: "Literally stopped mid-use to write this review. I never write reviews, but just wanted everyone who has cats to know that you can save your furniture! This thing is awesome!" — Melanie Abrams Get it from Amazon for $9.99+ (available in five colors). 36. Some matte-steel cabinet pulls for a modern touch to those cabinets or credenza that is just part of the landscape of your home by this point. Even if you don't consider yourself a handy person, this is a super easy DIY. Promising review: "Can't beat the quality for the price! Solid weight, none arrived scratched, bent or broken. Definitely get the template! It makes installation a breeze! With the template, I had 24 handles installed in less than 45 minutes! Immediately upgraded my cabinets. Very happy with this purchase!" — alexa Get it from Amazon for $6.99+ (available in quantities 1–60 and in seven colors). 37. Some cushion supports in case lots of work-from-home days — which you're very grateful for, btw — has aged your couch at a rapid rate. These'll help plump up your cushions and make the couch look and feel like new(er). It's basically really thick foam you can put inside your cushion, under the stuffing. Plus, there's a piece of thin foam that goes near the back of he cushion for extra support. SagsAway is a small biz specializing in these inserts that help revive furniture. Promising review:"The sofas are sturdy and only three years old but several cushions were sagging. I ordered two of the large size for our live seat to try them out. I easily cut an inch off to have it fit with an Exacto knife. Easy to slide in, easy to close with my husbands help. The difference when sitting on the sofa is amazing. Firm and they feel like new cushions. I just ordered three more for the large sofa." — doris Get them on Amazon for $34.99+ per kit (available in two sizes; each kit fixes one cushion). 38. Or a couch-spanning cushion support for when things get a little saggy and it isn't just the cushions' fault. Note that based on the reviews, this tends to work best on poly-filled cushions. As one reviewer noted, it helped some but not as much as expected on their down-filled cushions. Promising review: "We have an older sofa (10 years) that we love, but the middle was sagging. The cushion support board helped tremendously. We are also going to put an extra foam insert in the middle cushion that is also sagging. Altogether, it is much cheaper than getting a new couch, and it is noticeably more comfortable. Very easy to install." — David Rizor Get it from Amazon for $44.99 (available in three sizes). 39. Some replacement sofa legs for that old Ikea couch that needs a serious refresh. Design is all in the details and switching out furniture legs can (literally and figuratively) elevate a couch. PrettyPegs Prettypegs is a Stockholm-based small biz from married couple Jana and Mikael. The idea came to them after shopping at Ikea and finding all the sofa legs super boring. Get it from PrettyPegs for $16.40 each (available in a variety of furniture legs for all kinds of pieces). 40. A set of under-cabinet lights to bring a modern touch to any outdated cabinets that you wish you could replace. This'll instantly make your kitchen look *so* expensive. Promising review:"I ordered these just to determine if we really needed under cabinet lighting. I really wasn't expecting much because of the price. It is very easy to install, with five levels of brightness with the included remote control, timers for on and off, and a manual on/off switch in the connecting wiring if you don't use the remote. Standard 2025 button battery for the remote. I really don't know how they can be sold for the price I paid. Also received in two days. The photo was taken in a very dark kitchen. Updated: I ordered two more packages to finish the lighting required. The electrical plug is much better since it does not stick out from the wall so far. Very pleased with these units." — Anthony E Spearman Get three 12-inch lights from Amazon for $13.59. 41. A window film can still let in SO much light while giving you a bit of privacy in your kitchen — especially if a neighbor's window looks RIGHT into yours. (Really, that's only cute in sitcoms.) Promising review:"I have a weird skinny window in my house where no normal window covering works. People walking on our community trail can see up into our upstairs bathroom when the light is on and it's dark outside. Not a good plan at all. So I used this window film and cut different-sized circles and placed then on this window to interrupt the view into the house. Worked perfectly! Very easy to use." — Marsgard Get it from Amazon for $7.99+ (available in 14 sizes). 42. Or a "stained glass" decal you can position on front-door windows, transoms, possibilities are nearly endless! It'll obscure the view into your home a bit without going whole hog like a blurred window cling that obscures the view on both sides. Also, it just looks really nice! This kit comes with separate-to-apply elements, so it'll work on a variety of window dimensions. If this isn't quite your style, there are lots of other stained glass window decals and window cling styles. Promising review: "These stained glass decals worked great on the fireplace windows in my early 1900s bungalow. If you get up close, or look at them from the outside, it's pretty obvious they aren't real, but you'd have to be looking really closely. Don't forget to buy one package of caming lines for each set of decals, you'll need it. If you're someone who gets stressed about applying sticky things, or making things straight, don't worry too much about it. I am really bad at that stuff typically and I found it really easy. Wash your windows first, measure so you have a rough idea of where to put the center decal, and keep some scissors on hand to cut the caming. It's easy and so cool! Our house already has a lot of 'old house charm' so these fit in perfectly." — Linds Get it from Amazon for $9. 40. 43. Cordless, no-drill Roman shades that'll be a breeze to install — and especially great if you're in a rental where you can't or are at least trying to limit drilling into the wall. Amazon Promising review: "I knew I wanted something to finish off my bench seat windows. These blinds were not only easy to install, but I am impressed with the quality and how easy it is to raise and lower them. I think all four were out of the box and installed in 15 minutes. Offers light filtering, which is perfect for my needs. If I want to take them down for my holiday garland, it will be super easy to remove and put back up after the holiday." — doug huntley Get each panel from Amazon for $60.99+ (available in seven styles and a range of sizes). 44. A metal kick plate that'll spiff up your front door and catch all kinds of shoe prints and scuffs. Promising review:"It arrived quickly and in perfect condition. There is a layer of protective plastic film over the metal to keep it from getting scratched or damaged. It comes with matching screws. I pre-drilled the holes to make the installation easier. Easy upgrade project that can make your door more beautiful or is great for hiding damage." — kmr Get it from Amazon for $45.06. Reviews have been edited for length and/or clarity.
