Selections based on a heavy track Race 1 8. Shuttering had a number of trials before debuting in the Inglis Challenge at Scone and running an even race when finishing fifth. She was only beaten 3.5 lengths in that event and should have derived benefit from the experience. 2. Swexan is a stablemate of Shuttering that is on debut here. He has had two trials to be fitted for this and bears close watching. 7. Sapphire Rose debuts here. She won a trial in November and has since had another two trials leading into this and has been placed in each. She's drawn well and looks primed to run well. 1. Rainbow Goddess had good form at the end of her last preparation being placed in three of four before the break. She had two trials and ran well in both before resuming with a second at Hawkesbury. She will be better for that run and has the advantage of gate one here. 1. Inncourt is an import having his first Australian start. He is a recent trial winner that is set to run well fresh. 3. Prince Harrison won a Warwick Farm trial before resuming with a midfield Kembla Grange effort and he can show up in this. 9. Oakfield Zena was placed two starts ago and can lift on a last start failure. How to play it: Rainbow Goddess WIN. Race 3 1. Harlex resumed from a spell with a dominant Newcastle victory then stepped up in grade and ran well when fourth at Scone during the carnival there. He's drawn to get the run of the race here and can bounce back. 2. Pratt was first-up when scoring easily at Newcastle last time out and bears close watching again. 4. Explosive Torpido has performed well in both runs back from a spell and is one of the chances again, while 5. Estephania failed to beat a runner home when resuming but strips fitter for this. How to play it: Harlex WIN. Race 4 4. Diamond Show settled back in the field but once finding clear running in the straight hit the line well to score a strong win at Hawkesbury when last produced and she can go on with the job. 5. Twilight Elegance resumed with a Kembla Grange win and is worth including among the chances. 3. Iceman hit the line well late for a last start third and only needs to repeat that effort. 6. Samudra prevails in battle of blue bloods at Sandown on Wednesday
Rich pedigrees were on display at Sandown on Wednesday with blue-blood juveniles Samudra and I'mateez fighting out a hotly contested 1000m 2YO Handicap. Fast filly Samudra, a $750,000 daughter of super stallion Snitzel out of Group 1 winner Pippie denied I'mateez, the half-brother of 10-time Group 1 winner Imperatriz. Trainer Mark Walker, who ironically conditioned Te Akau champion Imperatriz during her career was most pleased with Samudra's last 100m under pressure from I'mateez and third-placed Latin Boss. Latin Boss went stride for stride with Samurdra through the first 800m and only relented late. '(Samudra) was under a lot of pressure but she really dug deep and found,' Walker said. 'Probably going forward she's going to be a better chaser than leader. 'You would've thought she was all done at the 100m but that natural (talent), mum's (Pippie) ability kicked in and she's going to be a much nicer three-year-old, that's for sure.' The blue-blooded Samudra grits her teeth, staving off the challenge of her opponents to make a winning debut 🙌 Odds on backers won't want that again 😅 @BMelham â€' (@Racing) May 21, 2025 Samudra is set to be spelled for the spring with attention on stakes success. Rae went into the 1000m event unsure how laidback I'mateez would perform under race pressure. 'He's just been a bit plain in his work late,' Rae said. 'It was good he added a string to his bow today so he's going to make a horse.'

Filly shows star potential Zoustar filly Stardom is set to chase more black type at the Queensland winter carnival after securing a valuable win in the Woodlands Stakes (1100m) as part of a listed double for the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable. The Torryburn Stud talent, out of Snitzel mare Diddums, raced outside leader Rainbow Glow before taking over at the top of straight for jockey Adam Hyeronimus and finding late to hold off Kris Lees-trained Wollzeile by a half length. Favourite Akaysha was strong late for third after getting too far back. The Instructor later gave Hyeronimus and the Waterhouse-Bott yard another big win, overhauling Whinchat in the final metres of the Luskin Star Stakes. The son of Russian Revolution is also set to hunt stakes wins in Queensland. Caballus comeback soured Throat and gelding operations proved pivotal for Caballus when he returned with victory in the listed Ortensia Stakes (1100m), only to suffer a bleeding attack. 'He came in this morning and galloped four for us, then went home and rode his two show-jumpers, then got in the car and came here, so he's a hard worker.' He said the performance of Summer Flame was not a surprise for Waller. 'Chris was tipping it, so he might be happy because she was obviously a crazy old price,' he said. Archibald import finds edge Annabel Archibald believes she may have found a key to Cormac T after the import edged out Gentileschi following an unusual lead-in. Cormac T was scratched on vet's advice last Saturday at Gosford with abrasions to his near-hind leg after becoming fractious in the gates. He bounced back in the benchmark 78 (1700m), hitting the front late for jockey Tom Sherry then holding out Gentileschi and Kind Words in a thriller. Gentileschi's co-trainer Paul Messara and stewards reviewed the photo before correct weight was declared. 'He obviously didn't gallop last Saturday and we went pretty steady with him early in the week because we wanted to check he was OK,' Archibald said. 'So maybe he's shown us that he likes to be kept slightly on the fresh side.' It was part of a great day for the Annabel and Rob Archibald yard, which later won the group 1 Doomben 10,000 with Sunshine In Paris.
