Gill needed one run in the fifth Test to break Sobers' record, and he achieved the objective during the morning session of the first day's play at The Oval.
Shubman Gill is the captain of India's Test team, and on Thursday (July 31), during the first day's play of the fifth India-England Test at The Oval in London, he broke the record of scoring the most runs by an away captain in a Test series played in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) countries.
Gill needed one run in the fifth Test to go past Garry Sobers' tally of 722 runs, and he achieved the objective by taking two runs on the sixth ball of his innings.
During the 1966 England-West Indies Test series in England, Sobers played five matches as captain of the Windies and scored 722 runs.
