Why has Sam Thompson pulled out of Soccer Aid 2025?
England will once again take on the Soccer Aid World XI FC at Old Trafford in Manchester. Among the line-up is former Lioness Jill Scott, One Direction's Louis Tomlinson and new signing Tyson Fury, plus many more. Why has Sam Thompson pulled out of Soccer Aid? However, earlier this week, I'm a Celeb winner Sam Thompson announced he has had to pull out of the match and will no longer play alongside Tom Grennan, Bella Ramsey and Mo Farah. After training on Friday (June 13), Sam revealed he had to step down as a player in Soccer Aid this year because of an injury he sustained during his five-day Soccer Aid challenge, which saw him run and cycle a total of 260 miles. His Match Ball Mission has raised more than £1.5 million for Unicef. But for those who were looking forward to seeing Sam in action, the good news is that he will still be part of Soccer Aid, which takes place this evening. Speaking on ITV's This Morning, as reported by The Mirror, Sam explained: "I'm still very sore, still got the torn calf, however I am here at Soccer Aid HQ and it does not get better than this. 'We've still got the management team of England, we've got Vicky McClure, Tyson Fury, who's stepping into some new shoes and Harry Redknapp... "But also because I'm not going to be able to run around, you've also got me, part of the management team. Come on baby! ... I came here with high hopes and went to see Gary the physio and I can kick a ball from a standing start, but when it comes to like general chaos of playing competitive sport there's just no way. 'I can't really run properly so yeah. They were very kind and said we still want you to be a part, so I get to go on the dark side with Tyson Fury." Who are the commentators on Soccer Aid? Soccer Aid 2025 will see Love Island voiceover legend Iain Stirling and TalkSPORT and ITV Sport broadcaster Sam Matterface take on commentator duties. Meanwhile, the England v Soccer Aid World XI FC charity match will be presented by Dermot O'Leary and Alex Scott. What time does Soccer Aid start today? Coverage of Soccer Aid will begin from 6pm today on ITV1 and ITVX, with kick-off from 7.30pm. The Radio Times summary adds: 'Dermot O'Leary and Alex Scott host the pre-match build-up before presenting live coverage of the charity match from Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United. Recommended reading: 'This year's star-studded line-up includes Tyson Fury, Wayne Rooney, Gary Neville, Vicki McClure, Mo Farah, Harry Redknapp, Tom Grennan, Denise Lewis, Jill Scott, Nadia Nadim and many more famous faces playing in aid of Unicef.' Soccer Aid was created by Robbie Williams in 2006 and 'brings the nation together behind a common goal: to protect play for every child'. The official website adds: 'Soccer Aid for UNICEF harnesses the power of football to support children around the world to grow up safe, healthy and able to play.'

Tyson Fury's strength compared with Soccer Aid co-manager Wayne Rooney
Ahead of this Sunday's Soccer Aid at Old Trafford, Fury - who will co-manage the England team with Rooney - tried his luck at the iconic grip test Tyson Fury and Wayne Rooney went head-to-head in a thrilling grip test ahead of this weekend's Soccer Aid - and the results will shock you. This year's Soccer Aid will return to Old Trafford, home of Premier league giants Manchester United, this Sunday. Celebrities and footballing will battle it out on the pitch as England take on the Soccer Aid World XI FC in the world 's biggest charity football match. England took the crown last year after defeating the World XI 6-3 at Stamford Bridge. Once again, many big names are set to feature, including Jill Scott, Tom Grennan, Sir Mo Farah, Fury, Joe Hart, Steph Houghton and former Italy defender Leonardo Bonucci. With just days to go until the highly-anticipated charity match, several stars went hand-to-hand in a battle to determine who has the strongest grip. A grip test measure the maximum force you can exert when squeezing a hand dynamometer. This test is often used to assess overall upper body strength and can be a unique way of assessing health and predicting future health outcomes. First up was the 'Gypsy King' - who may be displeased with the result. He jokingly claimed he scored 700, before showing his actual score of 69.3kg to the camera. Up next was Manchester United legend Rooney - who was not far off of Fury's tally as the ex-England international scored 61.2kg. Bonucci picked up a underwhelming score by his high standards. After picking up 29kg on his first effort, the Italian pressed on and eventually scored a grand total of 37.7kg. Finally, UNICEF UK Ambassador and famous TV presenter Dermot O'Leary tried his luck and scored a fairly respectable 32.5kg. "Is that good?" O'Leary said before the cameraman replied: "Oh, we won't tell you what Tyson (Fury) got!" A stunned O'Leary passionately responded: "Won't tell me what Tyson Fury got! I am not exactly expecting... oh no I did not beat Tyson Fury did I? Oh, what a shame!" Fury will be co-managing the team alongside Rooney this weekend. Prior to the announcement, the 'Gypsy King' uploaded a video to his Instagram page walking through the Old Trafford tunnel with an England flag and captioning the post: "Did you miss me?" The footage went viral on social media - with many believing he was set to announce his return to boxing. An avid Red Devils fans, Fury was clearly excited following the announcement. 'ENGLAND MANAGER! Who would ever have thought it!? I have had some big fights in my career and the prospect of leading my England team to victory this June fills me with just as much excitement as any heavyweight fight," he said. "Everyone knows that I am a huge Manchester United fan too, so it's even more special for me that the game is at Old Trafford this year – and I get to manage one of my heroes, Wayne Rooney! How can we lose!? The work UNICEF does all around the world is so special and so important. I really hope that you can come along and support us this summer.'
