SERI ALAM: Police have completed investigations into a viral clip showing a man roughing up a woman inside an office in Taman Kota Masa, Pasir Gudang here earlier this month. The 51-second clip, which surfaced on Facebook, showed the man confronting and manhandling a female worker in what appeared to be a workplace setting. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the case was reported by the 34-year-old woman in the clip on May 15 at 5.53pm. "She claimed the incident took place at 1.05pm that same day at an office in Taman Kota Masai," he said in a statement today. The case is investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, which carries a maximum one-year jail term, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both. Sohaimi confirmed that investigations were completed and the case file was referred to the state deputy public prosecutor's office yesterday for further instructions. "We urge the public not to speculate or spread unverified information. Let the due process take its course." He also called for public cooperation, adding that any further information can be directed to investigation officer Inspector Muhammad Izzat Syafiq Zamziba at 014-924 2724 or via the Seri Alam police hotline at 07-386 4222.

JOHOR BARU: A 25-year-old woman was killed after the motorcycle she was on collided with a lorry in Ulu Tiram here. Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the accident involving the motorcycle and lorry was believed to have happened at around 6.20am on Saturday (May 17). 'Initial investigations found that the lorry, driven by a 40-year-old local man, was heading towards Pekan Tiram when the motorcyclist suddenly veered into the opposite lane. 'The lorry driver was unable to brake in time and collided with the motorcycle. The impact caused the motorcyclist to be thrown off her motorcycle,' he said in a statement on Saturday. He added that the woman suffered serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the lorry driver, who tested negative for drugs, was not injured. He said that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. ACP Sohaimi also urged those with information or who witnessed the incident to contact the police at 07-386 4222 to assist in the investigation.

SERI ALAM: Two men were arrested yesterday over a viral road rage incident involving a lorry driver in Ulu Tiram that sparked public outrage online. The 44-second video clip, uploaded on Facebook, showed the duo confronting and threatening the lorry driver, allegedly over a traffic misunderstanding on May 11 at 1.30pm. Police investigations revealed the altercation stemmed from the lorry driver's sudden lane change and delayed use of turn signals. Seri Alam police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said both suspects, aged between 18 and 21, were picked up at 4.30pm yesterday (May 12) in Ulu Tiram. "One of the suspects was found with a wooden baton, which he allegedly used to threaten the victim during the confrontation," he said in a statement today. Checks revealed that one of the suspects had a prior criminal record. However, both tested negative for drugs. The suspects have been remanded for four days until May 16 to facilitate investigations under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, which carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for misuse of network facilities. Sohaimi urged those with information on the incident to contact investigation officer Inspector Muhammad Izzat Syafiq at 014-92427274 or the Seri Alam control centre at 07-3871422 or 07-3861422.

JOHOR BARU: Police are investigating a video clip of two women being confronted over allegedly stealing a parcel in a Seri Alam residential area. Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the video uploaded on Facebook shows a man stopping the women over the alleged theft. 'A police report was lodged by a 44-year-old man over the incident, which occurred at 3.49pm on May 8 in a housing area in Seri Alam,' he said in a statement on Monday (May 12). Initial investigations are being carried out under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft, which carries a jail term of up to seven years, a fine, or both upon conviction. The case is also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities, which provides for a jail term of up to one year, a fine not exceeding RM50,000, or both if found guilty. ACP Sohaimi said police are working to identify the individuals in the video, the delivery company involved, and the rightful owner of the parcel. He urged anyone with information to contact the Seri Alam police headquarters at 07-3864222. Earlier, a 3min, 28sec video was uploaded on the Community Roda Johor FB page showing two women being scolded by a man for allegedly taking a parcel that did not belong to them. Towards the end of the clip, the man follows the women to a nearby house where the parcel is placed on the wall. At the time of writing, the video has garnered over 170,000 views.

PASIR GUDANG: Three local men were apprehended while attempting to smuggle 491 cases of beer with unpaid duties worth RM509,214.20. Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the suspects, aged between 44 and 56 years, were detained at Jalan Kempas, Taman Megah Ria, Masai near here on Thursday (May 8) at about 5.40am. 'They were transporting the goods in a lorry and three cars when we caught them in the act,'' he said in a statement. ACP Sohaimi said police also seized the lorry and the three cars worth RM170,000, bringing the total value of the seized items to RM679,214.20. 'Initial investigation found that two of the three suspects have previous criminal records,'' he said, adding the case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(e) of the Customs Act 1967.
