Texas A&M forward has entered the transfer portal after three seasons

Texas A&M forward has entered the transfer portal after three seasons After six seasons, Texas A&M head coach Buzz Williams departed the program to take over the Maryland Terrapins. As a result, several players entered the transfer portal, led by incoming senior forward Pharrel Payne and, as of Thursday, fellow senior forward Solomon Washington. Both players were the final dominoes among a 2024-2025 roster wholly depleted due to graduation, with eight seniors leaving. Texas A&M's all-time leading scorer, Wade Taylor IV, led the way, followed by forward Henry Coleman and Andersson Garcia. However, there was always a slim chance that Payne would wait and see who Athletic Director Trev Alberts hired but would likely follow Williams to College Park. Solomon Washington's three-year Texas A&M career has been highlighted by elite defense, while his scoring has improved over the last two. Last season, the Louisiana native averaged 4.7 PPG and 5.1 RPG, which isn't prolific on paper, but his impact was notable every time he stepped on the court. There's always a slim chance that Washington could return to the Aggies, barring the program's future hire, but no one can blame a player for looking out for his future. Only two players remain on Texas A&M's roster: Forwards Chris McDermott and George Turkson Jr. Contact/Follow us @AggiesWire on X and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Texas A&M news, notes and opinions. Assessing Texas A&M basketball's 2025-2026 roster in its early stages

Assessing Texas A&M basketball's 2025-2026 roster in its early stages Texas A&M's 2024-2025 season ended at the hands of 5-seed Michigan in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, falling 91-79 after leading most of the game before the Wolverines took over late in the second half. Behind forward Pharrel Payne's 26 points, coach Buzz Williams confusingly stopped feeding Payne after Michigan began its comeback. Combined with poor second-half defense, the Aggies couldn't match Michigan's shooting and up-tempo play, leading to the program's second straight loss in the second round after falling to Houston last season. Even before the NCAA Tournament, Aggie fans are aware of the future departures, which include eight seniors, led by all-time scoring guard Wade Taylor IV, forward Henry Coleman and Andersson Garcia, guards Manny Obaseki, Jace Carter and Hayden Hefner, and transfer guards Zhuric Phelps and CJ Wilcher. Eight is considerable, but this was always the case heading into the season. Knowing Buzz Williams' past transfer portal success, which included adding Pharrel Payne this time last year, trusting his process is based on reality, not hope. Note: Outside of the eight departing graduates, four freshmen and one sophomore are the only players outside Pharrel Payne and Solomon Washington who are set to return next season. Junior forward Pharrel Payne 2024-2025 season stats: 10.4 points per game, 5.1 rebounds, 0.4 assists, 64.6% FG Pharrel Payne's dominance in the NCAA Tournament, scoring 51 points in both games, wasn't shocking given his elite skillset, and by the looks of it, the Minnesota native is set to return next season as the face of the team. However, Payne will likely be vaulted into the starting lineup next season after coming off the bench this season. Junior forward Solomon Washington 2024-2025 season stats: 4.7 points per game, 5.1 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 35.8% FG Solomon Washington and Pharrel Payne are the only key contributors set to return next season. While Washington is one of the top defensive players in the country, his scoring will need to increase if Buzz Williams cannot land as many transfer players as he'd like. Sophomore forward Chris McDermott 2024-2025 season stats: 1.3 points per game, 2.1 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 37.5% FG Chris McDermott is filled with potential, appearing in a handful of games as the only freshman to see playing time this season. Coming into the program, the Houston native one shot nearly 60% from the field during his senior year, possessing the athleticism and rebounding ability to take the next step in his development. Redshirt freshman forward George Turkson Jr. 2024-2025 season stats: Did not play Texas A&M's forward rotation next season will see a new name to the lineup, as former four-star prospect George Turkson Jr., alongside four-star guard Andre Mills, redshirted during the 2024-2025 season to save eligibility. Turkson, like Chris McDermott, is another athletic big man and one of the top defenders in the 2025 recruiting class. Redshirt freshman guard Andre Mills 2024-2025 season stats: Did not play Like George Turkson, Andre Mills opted to redshirt this season and will be ready to play next fall. Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, Mills averaged 30 points per game and eight rebounds during his senior season, choosing the Aggies over Iowa, Boston College, UMass, and Providence. Mills is a pure scorer who should provide adequate depth next season. Redshirt freshman forward Janusz Ratowski 2024-2025 season stats: Did not play Another big man destined to see playing time next season, Polish forward Janusz Ratowski, is a skilled shooter who could become a key role player as soon as next season. Throughout his prep career, Ratowski has improved as a defender and rebounder, and I'll be the first to say that Aggie fans should be excited about his potential. Redshirt junior guard Jaelyn Lee 2024-2025 season stats: 1.0 points per game, 0.8 rebounds, 0.2 assists, 33.3 % FG Out of Paris, Texas, 6'8" guard Jaelyn Lee could finally crack a guard rotation that will look completely different next season and brings a ton of length and length to a backcourt in need of more consistent scoring. Lee's ability is relatively unknown outside of his successful high school career, but he has waited his turn to prove his worth, which is coming soon. Texas A&M's 2025 signing class Four-star guard Jeremiah Green Four-star guard Jasir Rencher Three-star guard Aaron Glass Of all three signees, Jasir Rencher's historic senior season and his elite shooting skillset could place him in the starting lineup next season. At the same time, Jeremiah Green is highly athletic and could contribute in 2026. Texas A&M basketball reveals new uniform ahead of Arkansas game

Texas A&M is on a roll right now and they have been finding ways to win while playing some ugly basketball. As they prepare for Arkansas the Aggie basketball X account dropped their newly designed uniforms from Adidas. There is a saying coined decades ago that goes, "If you look good, you feel good, so you play good." or something along those lines. Now, in reality it doesn't matter especially with a Buzz Williams run team. They could play games in a burlap sack and still have the same 19-5 record they have right now. Below you can view the post from the official social media account with Aggie defensive star Solomon Washington modeling the new threads. Empowerment through connection 🪡 #GigEm | @adidasHoops — Texas A&M Basketball (@aggiembk) February 14, 2025 Keeping my personal opinions aside the only thing the main focus for the team is getting a win on Saturday when they host Arkansas at Reed Arena at 11 am/CST. The game can be viewed on ESPN. Contact/Follow us @AggiesWire on X and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Texas A&M news, notes, and opinions. Washington scores 17 as No. 8 Texas A&M uses dominate second half to beat Georgia 69-53

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Solomon Washington scored 17 points and No. 8 Texas A&M used a huge second half run to cruise to a 69-53 win over Georgia on Tuesday night. Georgia led by eight points early in the second half before Texas A&M took over, using a 22-0 run to make it 50-36 with nine minutes left. Washington started the run with a 3-pointer before a steal by Wade Taylor IV gave the Aggies the ball back. Taylor dished to Washington, who finished with a two-handed dunk. The Bulldogs made four free throws in the first four minutes of the second half. Their next points didn't come until Asa Newell made two free throws with 8 1/2 minutes to go and he made two more less than a minute later. But Georgia did not make a field goal in the second half until a dunk by Newell with 7:20 remaining. Georgia missed 12 consecutive shots and had four turnovers during A&M's big run. Henry Coleman III added 13 points for the Aggies (19-5, 8-3 Southeastern Conference), who extended their winning streak to four games. Georgia (16-9, 4-8) was led by Silas Demary Jr., who had 19 points. Takeaways Georgia: The Bulldogs need more consistency after playing great in the first half before falling apart after halftime. Texas A&M: The Aggies need to avoid slow starts with big games down the stretch against No. 1 Auburn, No. 3 Florida and fifth-ranked Tennessee. Key moment The five points by Washington that jumpstarted Texas A&M's offense and the 22-0 run that put the game away. Key stat Georgia's Blue Cain had 15 points in first half as the Bulldogs built a 32-23 lead, but managed just two after halftime. Up next Texas A&M hosts Arkansas Saturday, and No. 21 Missouri visits Georgia that day. ___ Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here. Texas A&M star guard Wade Taylor IV makes history in win over Oklahoma

Texas A&M (16-5, 5-3 SEC) got back in the winning column on Tuesday night after defeating Oklahoma 75-68 behind an elite showing at the free-throw line while out-rebounding the Sooners 47-19 in one of the more lopsided performances on the board. The Aggies' shooting woes continued, but this wasn't a surprise, as junior forward Solomon Washington missed his first game of the year due to an ankle injury. This led to reserve forward Pharrel Payne making his way into the starting lineup and, unsurprisingly, recording a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double in just 17 minutes of play. However, in just his third comeback since returning from his lower-body injury, star point guard Wade Taylor IV made Texas A&M history during the matchup. The senior's three steals and 12 points placed Taylor in elite standing, as he has over 1,835 points and 202 career steals in his four-year career. Scoring-wise, Taylor is a mere 156 points away from breaking Texas A&M's career scoring record, and with 10 regular season games remaining, the star guard will need to average just over 15 points per game, which is more than doable. Texas A&M will face South Carolina on the road on Feb. 4th at 7:30 p.m. CST. The game can be watched on the SEC Network.
