Texas A&M forward has entered the transfer portal after three seasons
After six seasons, Texas A&M head coach Buzz Williams departed the program to take over the Maryland Terrapins. As a result, several players entered the transfer portal, led by incoming senior forward Pharrel Payne and, as of Thursday, fellow senior forward Solomon Washington.
Both players were the final dominoes among a 2024-2025 roster wholly depleted due to graduation, with eight seniors leaving. Texas A&M's all-time leading scorer, Wade Taylor IV, led the way, followed by forward Henry Coleman and Andersson Garcia. However, there was always a slim chance that Payne would wait and see who Athletic Director Trev Alberts hired but would likely follow Williams to College Park.
Solomon Washington's three-year Texas A&M career has been highlighted by elite defense, while his scoring has improved over the last two. Last season, the Louisiana native averaged 4.7 PPG and 5.1 RPG, which isn't prolific on paper, but his impact was notable every time he stepped on the court.
There's always a slim chance that Washington could return to the Aggies, barring the program's future hire, but no one can blame a player for looking out for his future. Only two players remain on Texas A&M's roster: Forwards Chris McDermott and George Turkson Jr.

In a day full of emotional whiplash, Sunday's regionals ended in desolation at College Station, Texas. Advertisement It started in Game 1 of Sunday's regional round, a must-win for No. 1 seed Texas A&M. After the Aggies fell behind 6-0 to unseedeed Liberty, they stormed back to ultimately pull out a 14-11 win in eight innings and force a winner-take-all game against the Lady Flames. The Aggies then jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the nightcap before Liberty right fielder Rachel Roupe homered to open the scoring for Liberty. Texas A&M gave up another five runs to go down 6-3, before ultimately losing 6-5 following a spirited comeback attempt. "I'm just trying to process everything," Roupe said about the Flames' historic win on ESPN2 after the game. " ... Weight lifted off your shoulder. We were battling all day long. It took us, I don't know, many hours? Eight hours? Whatever we needed to do to get it done, we did it." Advertisement Kaylan Yoder was key for Liberty, coming in and tossing 1⅔ innings after ace Elena Escobar was run in the sixth. The five-run sixth was ultimately the difference for the Lady Flames, and the Aggies were unable to overcome the late onslaught. It's an inauspicious loss for the Aggies, who became the first No. 1 overall seed to miss the Super Regional round. Texas A&M, of course, got that No. 1 seed when the SEC Championship game against Oklahoma was cancelled, giving the Aggies the top seed in the NCAA tournament and Oklahoma getting No. 2. As the No. 1 seed in 2012, California lost a game in regionals to Arkansas then came back to capture two must-win games against the Razorbacks to advance. The Aggies have not made the Women's College World Series since 2017, while Liberty's win Sunday propelled the Lady Flames to the Super Regional round for the first time in program history. Texas A&M went 47-10 in the regular season and 16-7 in the SEC. It has not won the Women's College World Series since the current format was introduced in 2005 after winning two national championships in 1983 and 1987. (AP) — Rhyne Howard made a career-high nine 3-pointers and finished with a season-high 36 points, Brittney Griner moved into second place on the WNBA career blocks list, and the Atlanta Dream beat the Chicago Sky 88-70 on Friday night. Howard broke the franchise record for 3-pointers in a game, topping Renee Montgomery's eight in 2018. Griner blocked a shot by Elizabeth Williams late in the third quarter to move into a tie with Lisa Leslie (822). Griner added another in the fourth to sit alone in second, trailing Margo Dydek's record 877. Howard, who was scoreless in the first quarter, had 11 points in the third quarter to help Atlanta take a 58-54 lead. She ended the third with a jumper from the free-throw line and began the fourth with a 3-pointer for a seven-point lead. Howard added another 3-pointer with 8:18 remaining for the first double-digit lead of the game at 66-56. Howard also scored 11 points during Atlanta's 18-3 run in the fourth to take a 79-59 lead. Allisha Gray had 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists for Atlanta (7-3). Brionna Jones added 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Jordin Canada scored 12 to go with eight assists. Texas surging with elite edge Jamarion Carlton after recent visit Texas has picked a few huge commitments over the last week for their 2026 recruiting class as four-star defensive lineman Dylan Berymon and four-star defensive tackle Corey Wells made their pledges to the Longhorns. They have another blue-chipper in their sights as well and that's four-star edge Jamarion Carlton. The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder named Texas in his top five schools last week and also set a July 10 commitment date. Carlton was back in Austin last weekend to see the Longhorns, and he got to take in a bunch of what the program has to offer and what they have in store if he commits. "This official visit was amazing," Carlton told Rivals earlier this week. "Just to be able to chill with the players, get some good advice and then being able to know what plan they have for me. At Texas, the plan to develop me into reaching my highest potential as a player and as a person was great. The time with the players and the coaches was pretty fun." Carlton had a productive junior season for Temple High School. He amassed 57 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, five sacks, and a forced fumble. Rivals has Carlton ranked extremely high in their rankings. In addition to being the No. 46 overall prospect he's also the No. 4 edge rusher and the No. 4 recruit in the state of Texas. Texas Tech hosted Carlton at the end of April and LSU in May. He still has official visits to Texas A&M and Baylor before he commits, so last weekend was immensely important for Texas and their chances to land Carlton. After spending time with players on the Longhorns roster as well as edge coach LaAllan Clark, Carlton can envision himself playing in Austin. "I can see myself there," Carlton said. If Texas can snag Carlton, they'll inch closer toward a top 10 class for the 2026 cycle.
