In the upcoming years, she became one of the most respected actors from the country and became part of yet another blockbuster Chaandni. The Story Behind the Film… The 1989 film was helmed by late director Yash Chopra, who was best known for his dynamic storytelling and experimental approach towards cinema. He tried the same with this film as well. At first, the script was written by Kamna Chandra. As per her writing, Chandni left her husband, having a son, and falling in love with Lalit. The climax would be her kid attending her wedding. However, Chopra disapproved of this and took a section of the writing and made changes, but after the changes, exhibitors of the film felt that it may not work for the masses. When Yash Chopra Visited Sridevi's House Yash Chopra approached Sridevi after seeing her performance in her Tamil film titled Moondram Pirai and asked his close friend Boney Kapoor to arrange a meeting with her, but later decided to meet in person with her. Later, the director visited Sridevi's home in Chennai, narrated the script, and signed her for the film. After its initial release, the film garnered huge heaps of praise for its amazing storytelling and groundbreaking performance, which became a huge reason for its success. The film, which was made under Rs 8 crore, mounted Rs 27 crore and emerged as a blockbuster and the highest-grossing film of that year. The film's success revived the sinking careers of Rishi Kapoor, Vinod Khanna, and Yash Chopra, who were facing rough patches before Chaandni. Rishi Kapoor, who gave many significant flops, became an overnight star, while Vinod Khanna earned lots of praise for shifting his roles from action hero to lover boy. The Tragic End of Sridevi On February 24, 2018, she was discovered dead in her guest room at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with the reason listed as accidental drowning. Media reports suggested that she lost her consciousness and she drowned in the hotel room's bathtub.

However, as time testes the patience and the relation, reportedly, the passing of her mother strained there relationship of the two sisters. What Happened Between Sridevi and Srilatha? Sridevi used to be pretty discreet when it came to her personal life. There is no guaranteed claim about what went down between the two sisters but rumours suggest that it happened post the death of their mother. Sridevi has sued the hospital where her mother underwent a brain surgery owing to an error from the surgeon's side that cost them the life of their beloved mother. She emerged triumphant in the legal battle and got a compensation around Rs 7.2 crores, reportedly. If reports are to believed, Srilatha filed a case in an endeavor to seek her share from the compensation and there were certain property related issues as well. This created a strife that dragged the sister duo to court where Srilatha emerged victorious. This further strained the relation. It is said that Sridevi's husband and director Boney Kapoor tried to mend the differences but there has been no final word on it. Rumours were rife again after Srilatha's absence at the prayer meet of her sister Sridevi in 2018 at Chennai.
