Dhenkanal Collector visits remote villages
Dhenkanal: District Collector Somesh Kumar Upadhyay visited the remote Ekul- Sekul, Kote and other nearby villages in tribal-dominated Kankadahada block. The administration has launched a drive to expedite development works and welfare measures in these remote areas on the borders of Dhenkanal-Keonjhar-Jajpur districts, 75 km away from district headquarters. Upadhyay went through the forest streams amid heavy rain and sometimes barefoot accompanied by his field staffers. The Collector first reached Ekul-Sekul villages and interacted with the villagers. He sought to know from them whether they are benefiting from welfare schemes such as free rice, old age pension and financial assistance for the elderly. The people apprised him of the difficulties in getting rice during rainy season because of lack of bridge. The Juangs, who are primitive tribal group, sought immediate construction of bridge. The Centre has declared Kankadahada an aspirational block. Upadhyay met a Class VIII girl student Rajni Dehury, who dropped out of school as her parents Braja Dehury and Nima Dehury are suffering from paralysis. The Collector ensured that the couple are provided treatment and also their two children are given all facilities for pursuing higher education. Later, Upadhyay said a bridge will be constructed soon near Ekul-Sekul villages. He said action has been taken against field staffers who have been found negligent in doing duties. The Collector also visited Kasturba Gandhi residential girls school.

Govt UP school in dilapidated condition
Dhenkanal: The woes of students and teachers of Police Line Government UP School in Dhenkanal begin with the arrival of monsoon. The school is located just 100 metres away from the Collectorate. Rainy season is the most difficult period for students and teachers as rain water leaking through asbestos roofs of the school building causes classrooms to flood creating disruptive learning conditions. The Police Line Government UP School was established in 1952. Many of the students who have passed out of this school are well placed in different sectors. The government has implemented many schemes in the last 30 years like District Primary Education Programme, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, but such schemes seem to have evaded this school upsetting the parents and the people. The school has classes from 1 to 7 and the students have achieved success at various competitions. But there is shortage of classrooms. Most of the students belong to backward communities. Collector Somesh Kumar Upadhyay said he will look into the problems of the school soon. Dhenkanal Block Education Officer Dibya Prakash Pradhan said he had joined his post recently and will visit the school after July 10 as HSC supplementary examination is going on. Funds are sanctioned but survey of schools is not done properly by the authorities concerned, alleged School Management Committee members.
