Edwards praises 'brave' Boro after Millwall win
Middlesbrough boss Rob Edwards was delighted after a 'brave' performance saw his side run out 3-0 winners at Millwall in told BBC Radio Tees: "This is a difficult place to come but we stood up to it. We were brave and played our own way so I am really pleased. Even when we didn't have the ball we were trying to do the right thing and grow into the game."In the first half when we were winning the duels we were in threatening positions so I though bringing [Sontje] Hansen on at half-time would allow us to unlock that. He and Hayden [Hackney] were brilliant today."It has been a great start. Two clean sheets, and we have looked very solid across these two games. We want consistency, and we will keep trying to do the right things. I like where we are at but his this is a long, hard season."That was a good day for us, and a really good response from midweek. After you see a performance like that and last Saturday, it makes you annoyed by the [Doncaster] result on Wednesday because you have to show the same mentality every game, every week, and every day."

'Important' factor in Middlesbrough transfer planning after training ground decision
ROB Edwards has started the season playing with a back three and wing-backs at Middlesbrough, but says the club will continue to sign players who are comfortable in various different systems. Edwards favoured wing-backs during his time in charge of Luton and has played with a back three throughout pre-season and in the first two games of the campaign. But he has repeatedly stressed that Boro have prioritised versatile players in the transfer market, and that will remain the case in the final weeks of the window. Callum Brittain, who arrived from Blackburn, is equally as comfortable playing at right-back in a back four or as a right wing-back, while new recruit Sontje Hansen has played most of his football as a winger but can also operate in a central role, and will initially be used as a No.10 at Boro. And Boro are now closing in on the signing of Manchester City's Sverre Nypan, another versatile player who is comfortable playing as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder, winger and even at centre-forward. Such signings give Edwards the opportunity to vary the system, both in-games and between matches. "If players can do both and play in different systems, like Callum Brittain, who can do both, those characteristics are key for me," explained the head coach. "They're really important, so we can go to a back four like we did [against Doncaster] when we're chasing things more. To have that flexibility in games will help us." Although Edwards played with a back three at Luton, he says he came to Boro with an open mind on formations. "What we saw and found and felt on the training pitch when we first came in helped us lean towards where we're at at the moment," he said. The forward said: 'For the last two years I've played in the highest competition in Holland. "I do expect it will be tougher here than in Holland, so maybe I will need a little bit of time, but it can also be the other side. "We will have to see. I hear a lot about how in Holland it is more about football whereas here it is a lot more physical. "I've not had chance yet, but I think I will be asking Million Manhoef from Stoke how it is to play here. But I hear from some people that it is a really tough competition "I think it will be a great test and I want to take that test. I enjoy the challenge. "I am 23 now and I've learned a lot. But there is still more to learn and more to grow. I am excited to be here and hopefully we can make it a great season." Hansen added: 'I'm delighted it's finally done. I'm very happy to be here and very excited to play for Boro. "When I first heard of Middlesbrough's interest it was good. I wanted to hear more and had the meeting - they came to my city and we had a good conversation. "It was a little bit long for me after that, but we kept in touch, and now it's finally done. 'I'm a team player - I love to make combinations and I'm also really fast. I like to dribble both with my left and my right, I like to cross and, of course, I love getting goals and assists. "But certainly, I think for the fans, I want them to enjoy watching me play. I think I can do beautiful things with the ball."

Middlesbrough have signed forward Sontje Hansen on a four-year contract from Dutch club NEC Nijmegen. Hansen has scored 12 goals in 64 games for the Eredivisie side after starting off in the Ajax academy. The 23-year-old has represented the Netherlands in all age-group levels up to under-21 and he was the leading scorer at the 2019 Under-17 World Cup. Hansen is the fourth signing of the summer for Boro, to go along with defenders Alfie Jones and Callum Brittain and midfielder Abdoulaye Kante. Rob Edwards' side won their opening Championship game of the season against Swansea City, but were thrashed 4-0 by League One Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup. Transfers - August 2025

NEC expect millions: rapid winger set for EFL Championship switch
As per Voetbal International's Sander Janssen, Sontje Hansen is set to transfer to Middlesbrough. The Championship club are 'paying millions' for the 23-year-old NEC winger, which has once again secured a substantial sum of money. VI previously reported that Middlesbrough had long been one of the clubs interested in Hansen. FC Copenhagen and AFC Wrexham also showed interest in the Jong Oranje winger, but Boro have been the most decisive this time. NEC will reportedly receive €3.5 million plus bonuses for Hansen. The income may not end there, as the Nijmegen club have also negotiated a resale percentage. The player's current contract at the Goffertstadion runs until the summer of 2027. Dick Schreuder's side are cashing in on Hansen, who was signed on a free transfer from Ajax in the summer of 2023. The right-footed player played 72 matches for the Gelderland club, scoring 13 goals and providing nine assists.
