The accused, identified as Sonu Pasi alias Bhura, had 53 criminal cases registered against him, including charges of murder, attempt to murder and under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters' Act and the Goonda Act. According to the police, they received information that Sonu Pasi was changing his hideout and heading toward the Saloni Mohammadpur crossing on a motorcycle. The police said Sonu was wanted in a murder case in which a man was shot dead while trying to catch thieves during a burglary attempt at his house in the Umri Begumganj area of Gonda. The police launched a manhunt and arrested accused — Brijesh alias Chotu Pasi, Pallu Pasi, and Nanmunna Lodh — after an encounter in which all of them were injured. Sonu Pasi, also named in the case, remained absconding. A reward of Rs 1 lakh was subsequently announced for information leading to his arrest.

UP gangster with 53 criminal cases killed in police encounter in Gonda

Lucknow: Gonda police on Tuesday shot dead gangster Sonu Pasi alias Bhure, who had 53 criminal cases pending against him. Sonu had shot dead a Gonda resident inside his house during a robbery on Apr 25. Thereafter, police announced a cash reward of Rs1 lakh for any tip-off leading to his arrest. On Tuesday, he was intercepted by a police patrol, following which an exchange of fire took place. While Sonu was shot dead, a bullet hit the bulletproof jacket of an inspector leading the police team. Sonu, son of Nirmohi, was a resident of Kadipur in Karnailganj and was listed as a history-sheeter at Karnailganj police station with 53 cases of loot, murder, dacoity and robbery against him. Police said that on the night of April 24-25, burglars broke into the house of Devideen, son of Patandeen, in Tilak Dhannipurwa Dixir village under Umri Begumganj police station. When a family member tried to resist, the intruders shot him dead. A case was registered and police launched a manhunt for the culprits. Subsequent operations on the night of May 8-9 led to the arrest of three accused — Brijesh alias Chhotu Pasi, Pallu Pasi and Nanmunna Lodhi — following a shootout. However, key accused Sonu managed to escape. The ADG zone, Gorakhpur, announced a Rs1 lakh reward for information leading to his arrest. Gonda superintendent of police Vineet Jaiswal said that acting on intelligence about the movement of two suspects on a motorcycle, a police team laid a trap near Saloni Mohammadpur Bandha around midnight on May 19-20. "When confronted, the miscreants opened fire, one bullet striking the bulletproof jacket of the Umri Begumganj SHO. In retaliatory fire, one of the criminals was shot and injured, while the other fled under cover of darkness," said Jaiswal. The injured was taken to hospital where he was declared dead. A motorcycle (without a number plate), one .32 bore illegal pistol with spent cartridges and one country-made 315 bore firearm with used cartridges were found at the scene. SHO narrowly escapes bullet The 45-minute encounter in which history-sheeter Sonu Pasi was shot dead turned intense when a bullet hit SHO of Umri-Begamganj Narendra Rai's bulletproof jacket, but was stopped just in time by the vest, saving the officer's life. Police said Sonu fired 12 rounds while the police retaliated with eight. "The encounter lasted from 12:30 to 1:15am. During the exchange, the accused fired at me, and the bullet hit my chest area but got lodged in my bulletproof jacket," said Rai. "We immediately cordoned off the area and retaliated. Two bullets hit the accused in the chest during our return fire," he added. Wife claims all cases against Sonu false, kin refuse to cremate body tnn Lucknow: In the aftermath of the police encounter that killed history-sheeter Sonu Pasi in Gonda, his family has come forward with serious allegations, claiming he was falsely implicated in multiple criminal cases. Sonu's wife, Kamla Devi said, "I married Sonu in 2002. For the past four years, he was living with me at my parental home. Yesterday, a man came to our house and gave him liquor. He told Sonu the police were looking for him and that he should run. After that, Sonu left in a vehicle." She added that the family repeatedly tried calling up Sonu but got no response. "This morning, we found out through the news on our mobile phones that the police shot him dead. All the cases against my husband are false. Even the Apr 24 incident was wrongly pinned on him," she said firmly. Sonu's father-in-law Suraj Ram shared his own perspective, saying, "When I married my daughter to Sonu, he was around 18-20 years old. He was not involved in anything wrong back then. He was soft-spoken and helpful to everyone. I do not know how he got into all this later. We tried to stop him many times, but he didn't listen."
