Gangster carrying ₹1 lakh reward killed in police encounter in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda
'A criminal, carrying a bounty of ₹1,00,000, was shot dead in an encounter with police in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district,' officials said on Tuesday (May 20, 2025).
'Sonu Pasi alias Bhure was wanted in 53 cases of murder, dacoity, robbery, and other serious crimes. A police station in charge narrowly escaped injury during the exchange of fire,' they said.
Gonda Superintendent of Police (SP) Vineet Jaiswal said, 'The Umri Begumganj police received a tip-off on Monday [May 19, 2025] night about the presence of Pasi in the area. A joint team of the Special Operations Group [SOG] and Khodare police launched a coordinated operation to apprehend him'.
According to the SP, police intercepted Pasi near Sonouli Mohammadpur Bandha. When they tried to stop him, he opened fire on the police team. In retaliatory firing, he was injured and taken to the district medical college, where doctors declared him dead.
Police seized an illegal 32 bore pistol, a 315 bore country-made gun, and cartridges from the deceased. One of the bullets fired by Pasi struck an officer's bulletproof jacket, but he escaped unhurt.
Last month, during a theft incident in Umri Begumganj, Pasi had allegedly shot a villager who tried to resist. Since then, he had been on the run. Given the seriousness of the case, three police teams and the SOG-surveillance unit were assigned to track him.
Earlier, three of his associates — Brijesh alias Chhotu Pasi, Pallu Pasi, and Nanmunna Lodhi — were injured and arrested in police encounters.
Mr. Jaiswal confirmed that Pasi was wanted in 53 cases, including those lodged under the Arms Act, NDPS Act, and Gangsters Act, across Gonda, Basti, and neighbouring districts.
A reward of ₹1,00,000 was announced for his capture by the Additional Director General (ADG), Gorakhpur Zone.

Nagpur man arrested for MD drug trafficking
Indore: In the ongoing investigation into MD drug trafficking to the tune of Rs 54 lakh, the Crime Branch of Indore police arrested the fourth accused, Prashant Thumre, 37, a resident of Nagpur. Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya said that Thumre reportedly came to Indore to establish contact with an already arrested drug-peddling gang. He confessed to getting involved in the racket with the intention of making quick money and was introduced into the network by Gani Patel, one of the previously arrested accused. A school dropout after Class IX, Thumre worked at a hotel in Nagpur before venturing into drug trafficking. Earlier, police seized approximately 54.78 grams of MD drugs from the possession of three accused—Gani Patel (31), a resident of Khajrana, Indore; Mohsin Mev (31), a resident of Jaora, Ratlam; and Abdul Karim alias Raja (36), also from Jaora, Ratlam. The seized quantity of MD is estimated to be valued at around Rs 54 lakh in the international market. Acting on confidential intelligence, the Crime Branch searched a location near the rickshaw stand behind Bima Hospital at Marimata Square in Indore, where the first two accused were caught red-handed. Subsequent interrogation led to the arrest of Abdul Karim from Jaora, who was identified as the supplier of the drugs. During questioning, the accused admitted that they were addicted to drugs and intended to sell the MD to other addicts in the city. Technical surveillance and tip-offs further revealed Thumre's role, leading to his arrest in Indore. The police obtained remand for Thumre and are continuing their interrogation to uncover links with other individuals potentially involved in the gang. Legal procedures are being carried out based on the findings of the ongoing investigation. The case has been registered under Section 8/22 of the NDPS Act at the Crime Branch police station.

Police book singer Mangli for liquor party without permission
Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police on Wednesday booked folk singer Mangli for allegedly organising a liquor party without valid permission during her birthday celebrations at Tripura Resorts in Chevella. Some guests who attended the birthday party were tested for drugs, and one individual tested positive for consumption of ganja. He was booked under the NDPS Act. According to officials, at around 1:30 am, the Chevella police received a complaint from locals about loud music at Tripura Resort. A police team reached the scene and discovered that singer Mangli, also known as Satyavati, was celebrating her birthday with family and friends. "To use a DJ sound system at any event, organisers must obtain permission from the police. Similarly, if liquor is being supplied, permission from the excise department is required. They had neither," Chevella inspector M Bhupal Sridhar said. According to police, 25 members attended the party, including Mangli's friend and actor Divi Vadthya. The party was arranged by Mangli's manager, Megharaj. Apart from Mangli and her manager, police booked cases against Tripura Resort assistant general manager M Shiva Rama Krishna, Mangli's associate-cum-guest K Damodhar Reddy under BNS and Excise Act. All the accused were issued notices to appear for questioning.

Khanna police nab 2 after encounter, recover stolen jewellery.
The Khanna police have arrested a thief and his accomplice after he was injured in an encounter with them on Tuesday. The arrested accused has been identified as Arun Kumar of Kabza Factory Road in Khanna, and his "accomplice" was Rekha of Mandi Gobindgarh in Fatehgarh Sahib district. Police reported that on the night of May 18 and 19, Gurmel Singh of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Colony, Amloh Road, Khanna, was sleeping on the roof and in the morning, when a family member went downstairs, it was discovered that an unknown person had broken into the house and stole jewellery. Khanna police stated that based on the clues and technical support, Arun Kumar was identified and traced, and a case was registered against him on May 21. He was arrested on June 9 and presented before the court that granted police a two-day remand of the accused. During interrogation, he confessed that due to falling into bad company at a young age, and became addicted to drugs. To fund his addiction, he would break into houses and steal valuables, the police said. The accused admitted to selling the stolen gold and silver jewellery to Rekha and hiding the rest in an abandoned building near Military Ground, Khanna. The SSP said that while accompanying the police to recover the hidden items at the Military Ground, the accused suddenly pulled out a .32 bore country-made pistol from a hiding spot and fired at the police team with an intent to escape and cause harm. She added that the bullet hit a nearby wall, and in self-defence, SHO Khanna City-II Tarvinder Kumar fired back using his official service pistol, injuring the accused in his leg.
