Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The carcass disappeared soon after its photo circulated on a closed Sonwani Wildlife Protection Committee's WhatsApp group on August 2, sources informed. It is alleged that some forest staff secretly moved and burned the carcass at three locations between July 27 and 30 to erase evidence of poaching. After initial inquiry the forest department suspended a forest guard and forester, while six watchmen are under scanner. Search teams from Lalbarra and Waraseoni ranges failed to find the carcass at the spot seen in the viral photo, raising suspicions of poaching. A district-level probe reportedly confirmed lapses. Wildlife activist Ajay Dubey says he is reporting the incident to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and other regulatory bodies. "This is an attempt to cover up poaching. Its claws were missing," he alleges. With over 40 tigers roaming Sonwani Sanctuary, the incident alarms conservationists. Authorities say investigations are underway.
