Rod Wave's attorney says he's a burglary victim as rapper faces 14 criminal charges
Rapper Rod Wave, whose legal name is Rodarius Marcell Green, was charged in connection to an alleged April incident that his lawyers say started with a break-in at his Georgia home. Green, 26, faces 14 criminal charges, including aggravated assault and firearms violations, following the alleged events that unfolded at his residence on April 21. Through his lawyer, he denies any wrongdoing. Police responded to Green's home after receiving reports of a domestic dispute around 9:30 p.m. Witnesses said they heard yelling and screaming from outside the residence, Milton Police department said. On arrival, officers say they found Manariah Andrews, 22, a former contestant on 'The Rap Game' and known on social media as Mini Barbie, crying outside the residence. According to police, Andrews reported returning home at 9 p.m. to find the house where she and Green live burglarized. Officers confirmed the break-in, saying they discovered an emptied safe that had been dragged across the basement floor. A handgun was also recovered from the scene, police said. Police say Andrews informed officers that Green, who was away at the time, would return the following day. No injuries were reported in the incident. Green, whose three albums "SoulFly," "Beautiful Mind" and "Nostalgia" have all topped the Billboard 200 chart, turned himself in to the Fulton County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday. He was released on bond the same day. His attorney, Drew Findling, strongly maintains Green's innocence. "There is no truth to these charges. Rod Green was a victim of a burglary and committed no crimes," Findling stated. "How he was even charged as a result of this situation is incomprehensible. This will absolutely be resolved favorably for Mr. Green." The charges against Green include criminal damage to property, pointing a firearm at another person, reckless conduct, tampering with evidence, aggravated assault and more. Rapper Rod Wave faces more than a dozen charges, some involving a gun, after turning himself in
The rapper known as Rod Wave faces more than a dozen charges, some involving a gun, after he turned himself in to sheriff's officials in Georgia on Tuesday. Wave, whose real name is Rodarius Green, voluntarily surrendered to the Fulton County Sheriff's Office on warrants stemming from an April 21 police call in the Atlanta suburb of Milton, police there said. A police report obtained by the AP describes officers finding luxury cars with bullet holes in them and signs of a break-in at the home in one of Georgia's most exclusive communities last month. But it does not explain why authorities are now accusing the rapper of several crimes. Advertisement 3 Rod Wave performs at Iroquois Amphitheater on September 15, 2021 in Louisville, Kentucky. Getty Images 'There is no truth to these charges,' the rapper's lawyers Drew Findling and Marissa Goldberg said in a statement to The Associated Press. 'Rod Green was a victim of a burglary and committed no crimes,' they said. 'How he was even charged as a result of this situation is incomprehensible. This will absolutely be resolved favorably to Mr. Green.' Advertisement On April 21, Milton police responded to a home in the town north of Atlanta after a 911 report described 'a possible domestic disturbance,' police said in a statement. A neighbor had heard yelling and screaming, and saw a woman crying, officers wrote in their initial report. Officers determined that the call was related to a previously unreported burglary and the discharge of a firearm at the location, police said. They later obtained arrest warrants for Green, who lived there. The charges include aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit a felony, criminal damage to property and pointing or aiming a gun at someone, Fulton County Jail records show. He's also accused of tampering with evidence — a felony — and obstruction of law officers. 3 The Fulton County Superior Courthouse is seen, Thursday, March 14, 2024, in Atlanta. AP Advertisement An initial police report obtained by the AP describes what officers found at the home when they arrived April 21. A gold Mercedes SUV had multiple bullet holes in it, and a black Rolls-Royce vehicle had a single bullet hole, the report said. 'In the basement, we found a large safe that had been dragged across the floor, opened, and emptied,' an officer wrote. Green's girlfriend told officers that she had returned home and found that the house appeared to have been burglarized. In the back of the home near the swimming pool, officers found a broken window and a hammer in a bush next to it. A black Glock handgun was also found at the scene, officers wrote. The initial report does not list any suspects who might have broken in, emptied the safe or shot the vehicles, nor does it accuse Green of committing any crimes. Getty Images The 26-year-old Florida rapper is celebrated for his soul-trap sound, a unique melding of R&B and rap that has earned him 11 singles certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Four of his six albums hit No. 1 on Billboard's top R&B/hip-hop albums chart, including his most recent, 2024's 'Last Lap.' This year, he contributed the sing-song title track rap 'Sinners' to Ryan Coogler's record-breaking, critically acclaimed blockbuster of the same name. Green grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he has had at least one past scrape with the law before a domestic battery charge was dismissed in 2022. An ex-girlfriend had accused Green of entering her home in the Orlando area and choking her while their two children were in another room, according to an arrest warrant. The two had dated for about four years, and the girlfriend told investigators that Green accused her of seeing other men while they were broken up. Prosecutors later told court officials that the case was not suitable for prosecution.

Rapper Rod Wave arrested on 14 charges, including aggravated assault
NEW YORK — Rapper Rod Wave has been charged with aggravated assault and arrested on more than a dozen total offenses. The 26-year-old was taken into custody Tuesday on 14 charges, including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony; reckless conduct; criminal damage to property in the second degree, willful obstruction of law enforcement officers; a felony count of tampering with evidence; simple assault; and conspiracy to commit a felony, TMZ reports. The 'SoulFly' artist, real name Rodarius Marcell Green, was also charged with aggravated assault and pointing or aiming a gun or pistol at another, according to the outlet. Though Rod was reportedly released on $50,000 bond, his lawyers said there's 'no truth to these charges. Police say Rod and his camp were visiting his recently burglarized Atlanta-area home last month when he and an associate started arguing and the rapper pulled out a gun, firing a total of 14 rounds. A dozen of the rounds hit his vehicles, one hit his wall, and the last round has reportedly not yet been located, according to police. Authorities say the incident violated Rod's bond order in connection with a 2020 battery. 'Rod Green was a victim of a burglary and committed no crimes. How he was even charged as a result of this situation is incomprehensible. This will absolutely be resolved favorably to Mr. Green,' said Drew Findling and Marissa Goldberg — who also represented Atlanta rapper, Lil Baby, after a May 2024 triple shooting at one his music videos. In May 2022, charges were ultimately dropped after the rapper allegedly choked his ex-girlfriend, while their two kids were home. The Daily News has reached out to a representative for Rod Wave for comment.
