Emergency declaration extends for Pleasant Farms
ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- The Ector County Judge Dustin Fawcett has asked for a 14-day extension on the Emergency Declaration, after storms brought damage to the Pleasant Farms community. City officials and volunteers have been working hard helping clean up the small community of Pleasant Farms.
The extreme weather storms hit Pleasant Farms on June 3rd. The National Weather Services says this damage was caused by high winds. Now the County leaders are looking for more time and resources to help clean up this small community.
'The reason we did that is because we have had 51 landowners who have come to us,' Judge Fawcett said. 'Who has asked public works and the environment and everybody else to help.'
County officials and the Red Cross have been on the ground in Pleasant Farms helping with the clean-up. A total of 51 people were affected.
'We have accomplished 27 of those in total 51. We anticipate seven more will be done today,' Judge Fawcett said. 'So that will leave us at about 34 completed out of the 51. The remaining 17 will have the two-week additional time frame to accomplish all of those.'
Judge Fawcett said, there's still a lot of work left to do.
'There's a lot of property damage and we show up in people's darkest hours and provides some level of relief,' Judge Fawcett said. 'We aren't here to solve all of their problems. We can't do that. But to solve some of their problems that we have the ability to do so, I think it is a proud thing for our community.'
