STEM Camp Career Fair offered to rising high school and college students
COLUMBUS, Ga. () — South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) and Chattahoochee Flint RESA joined forces to host the South Georgia Technical College JET TECH Stem Camp Career Fair. The JET TECH STEM camp began on June 8 and ended on June 13. The camp was open to over 60 rising tenth, eleventh and twelfth grade students and multiple graduates from 10 various countries. The six-day camp was free of charge for students, allowing them to experience what it's like to live on a college campus without the stress of expenses. The career fair was one of many events offered to students during the STEM camp. It provided students with the opportunity to display their STEM skills and learn more about career fields offered in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Students were able to connect with local businesses and employers. The career fair included information regarding approximately 200 programs offered at SGTC. Some of these programs included: Aviation Maintenance Avionics Aircraft Structural Biology Cosmetology Cybersecurity Criminal Justice Culinary Arts Electrical Construction Mathematics Medical and Nursing Programs Sports and Fitness Students also had the privilege of meeting various industries in the STEM career field including: Marketing Management Instructor Mary Cross Paul Farr and Tami Blount of the Electrical Line Worker Program Stefanie Brown and Terra Cochran from the Department of Community Supervision Jesse Peabody of Pratt & Whitney Sheriff Bryant of the Sumter County Sheriff's Office Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. South Georgia Tech Lady Jets prepare for tournament in Wyoming
Staff Reports CASPER, WYOMING – 'Relentless' and 'Committed' were the words printed on the practice jerseys and t-shirts that the South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets wore during their 30-minute practice session prior to the start of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division 1 Women's Basketball Tournament in Casper, Wyoming. Advertisement Each of the 24 teams participating in the NJCAA Women's National Basketball Tournament got 30-minute practice sessions on the court at the Ford Wyoming Center, and SGTC Lady Jets head coach Jason Carpenter and his assistant coach Olivia Melvin made sure the Lady Jets were focused on the task at hand. 'This is what we have been working for all season,' said SGTC Athletic Director and Lady Jets head coach Jason Carpenter. 'Now we just have to execute.' The Lady Jets are ranked 22nd and considered the underdogs against the defending NJCAA 2024 National Champion Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons. The Blue Dragons received an at-large bid to the tournament after losing in their region tournament. They were seeded 11th and bring a 28 – 4 record to the tournament. The Lady Jets are riding a 13-game winning streak and bring a 25 – 6 record to the tournament. They are also the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) regular season champions and the GCAA-NJCAA Region XVII Tournament Champions. Advertisement The two teams will meet at 6:45 (eastern time) on Wednesday, March 26th, which is the second day of the tournament. The tournament kicks off at 12 noon (eastern time) on Tuesday, March 25th. All the action can be viewed live at or on ESPN+. There will be a cost to view the game on the NJCAA site. The winner of the Hutchinson – South Georgia Tech game will face 6th seeded Indian River on Friday, March 28 at 6:45 Eastern time. #
