Vishal breaks silence on Nadigar Sangam term extension controversy

As per the bylaws of the South Indian Artistes' Association (Nadigar Sangam), elections are to be held once every three years. However, due to pending legal cases, the results of the 2019 elections were only declared in 2022—nearly two and a half years later. The tenure of the team led by actor Nasser, which took charge after the results were announced, officially ended in March this year. Despite this, during the General Body Meeting held last year, a resolution was passed allowing the current office bearers to continue for another three years, citing the ongoing construction of the new association building. As a result, elections were postponed, raising questions among members. Member Nambirajan moves Madras High Court Opposing this resolution, Nadigar Sangam member Nambirajan filed a petition in the Madras High Court. As per Nakkheeran, in his plea, he claimed that the notice for the General Body Meeting did not mention any agenda regarding an extension of the current leadership's term. He further argued that citing building construction as a reason for the extension violates the association's own rules and the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act. The petition demanded that the resolution be declared invalid, and requested the appointment of a retired judge to conduct fair elections. He also urged the court to restrain the present office bearers from taking any policy decisions until fresh elections are held. Court asks Nasser, Vishal , and Karthi to respond Hearing the case, the High Court directed President Nasser, General Secretary Vishal, and Treasurer Karthi to submit their responses by June 4 and adjourned the matter. Complying with this order, Vishal submitted a written response on behalf of the association. He stated that construction of the new Nadigar Sangam building had commenced at a cost of ₹25 crore and is now 60% complete. Vishal defends extension Vishal added that initiating election procedures at this stage could delay the ongoing construction. Hence, a resolution was passed in the General Body meeting to extend the current administration's term by three more years. South Indian Artistes' Association supports Kamal Haasan amid Kannada language controversy: ‘He was among the first to speak out when Dr Rajkumar was abducted'

In the wake of the growing controversy surrounding actor Kamal Haasan 's recent 'Tamil-Kannada' remark, the South Indian Artistes' Association (SIAA) has stepped forward with a firm appeal to the Karnataka government, the Kannada film fraternity, and the public, urging them to view the comments in the right context rather than react impulsively. 04:34 'Won't Apologise If Not Wrong': Kamal Haasan on Kannada Row | Thug Life Film Sparks Controversy SIAA's statement The SIAA expressed concern that the outrage directed at Haasan could lead to a 'dark precedent' affecting artistic freedom and public discourse. The association underlined that twisting the words of a veteran actor known for advocating regional harmony would be a disservice not only to him but also to the broader cultural ethos. The statement recalled his friendship with iconic figures such as Dr Rajkumar and Girish Karnad. 'When the legendary Dr Rajkumar was abducted, Kamal Haasan was among the first voices to speak out and call for his release. He has always considered Dr Rajkumar a brother and holds Dr Shivarajkumar in the regard of a son,' it read. The association condemned efforts to brand Haasan as anti-Kannada, describing such narratives as 'entirely unacceptable' and devoid of rational perspective. 'Kamal Haasan is a legendary artist who has transcended the barriers of caste, religion, race, and language to dedicate his life to the service of art. To question his integrity is to insult decades of cultural unity and artistic excellence,' the letter concluded. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Kamal Haasan's reaction to the 'Thug Life' ban Amidst the backlash, Kamal was earlier asked to apologise for his remark by the KFCC, which also stated that they would impose an airport ban on his upcoming movie 'Thug Life' in the region. Tamil actors Vishal, Sai Dhanshika to get married on August 29

Tamil actors are all set to tie the knot, the couple announced on Monday (May 19, 2025) at the trailer launch of Dhanshika's upcoming film Yogi Da. The actors announced that they will get married on August 29 this year. Dhanshika, while speaking at the event, said, 'There's nothing to hide anymore. We are going to get married on August 29. I have known Vishal for 15 years. He has always treated me with due respect, and he has always supported me. Even when I was going through a problem, he came to my house, and that was a very sweet gesture. 'We started talking recently and we fell in love. We realised that this would end up in marriage,' added the 35-year-old actor. Vishal, on the other hand, professed his love for Dhanshika during his speech. 'I am in love with Dhanshik, and I am going to get married to her. She's a wonderful person. I am a lucky person. They say God saves the best for the last, and I believe he saved Dhanshika for me. We are going to lead a positive and lovely life,' said the 47-year-old actor. Interestingly, this comes days after Vishal hinted at getting married. The actor had long ago famously stated that he would get married only after the completion of the Nadigar Sangam (South Indian Artistes' Association) building, an endeavour for which the actor had raised funds as the General Secretary. At a recent media interaction, Vishal was asked about his wedding plans now that the Nadigar Sangam building is nearing completion. 'Yes, I've found the person. I will reveal more details soon,' he said. Dhanshika is best known for starring in films such as Peranmai, Paradesi, and Kabali. Vishal, an actor with over 40 films to his credit, was recently in the news after he fainted on stage at an event in Villupuram on May 11. A team of doctors examined the actor and stated that he had skipped his meals, causing him to faint.
