NHS Lanarkshire's chief executive visits Kilbryde Hospice

Louise Long reaffirmed the health board's commitment to partnership working. NHS Lanarkshire's chief executive visited Kilbryde Hospice to meet with staff and to reaffirm the health board's commitment to working in partnership to provide the highest standard of equitable palliative and end-of-life care. ‌ Since the earliest days of the South Lanarkshire-based hospice, NHS Lanarkshire and Kilbryde Hospice have worked closely together to support people living with life-limiting illness and their families. That partnership continues to go from strength to strength, with a shared focus on compassionate, person-centred care. ‌ During the visit, Louise Long heard about the hospice's vital role in delivering specialist palliative care - in the inpatient unit, through day services, and in supporting the wellbeing of patients and families at home. The visit also recognised the essential contribution of the hospice's highly-trained staff and dedicated volunteers. ‌ Long said: 'Palliative and end-of-life care is about much more than medical treatment. It's about dignity, compassion and supporting people and their families through some of the most difficult times in their lives. I'm hugely grateful to everyone at Kilbryde Hospice for the difference they make every day, and I look forward to continuing our close working relationship as we strengthen palliative care services across Lanarkshire.' Gordon McHugh, chief executive officer of Kilbryde Hospice, said: 'We were delighted to welcome Louise Long to Kilbryde Hospice. Our partnership with NHS Lanarkshire is vital in ensuring that people receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time – and that their individual needs are met with the utmost care and compassion. 'We are excited about the work we are doing together to develop sustainable services for the future in the genuine spirit of partnership.'
