KCAU 9 called the Sioux City Torrid Store on Tuesday, and an employee confirmed that the plus-sized clothing store will permanently close on June 24. 'At the same time, digital continues to be our customer's preferred channel, now approaching 70% of total demand. 'Quad Con' held at the Southern Hills Mall
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Geeks, gamers and Cosplayers get on your mark, as Quad-con has invaded the Southern Hills Mall in Sioux City this weekend. This is the second year of the event at the mall, and it has everything from comic books, video games, action figures, original art and you can Cosplay as your favorite character. 'This is a celebration of all things pop culture. You're going to find anything from Pokémon action figures, comic books. You're going to find original art from the artists that are set up here. It's a mishmash of everything people are into right now. If you're looking for something for that hard-to-find nerd in your life, this is the place to come, said John Wells, the Event Coordinator for Quad Con. According to organizers, this event is a great way to 'dip your toe' in the water if you've never attended a Comic-Con before and want to experience it. 'It's a way to go to a comic book convention lite. You know, it's not the full experience but you will see the same vendors at these shows. We don't have guests, we don't have panel discussions, we don't have all these other things and ultimately that all costs money and we're a free event,' added Wells. The event is going on during normal mall hours and it concludes Sunday at 6:00 p.m.. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Sioux City Art Center honoring artist and Sioux City native Craig Albright
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A new exhibit at the Sioux City Art Center will display the works of an artist who was born and raised locally. The museum announced Friday that the upcoming 'Chasing Light' exhibit will display a collection of paintings by Craig Albright. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, May 1 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will be free and open to the public. Albright was born in Sioux City and went to high school at Sioux City North. He currently lives in Iowa City. Book Lovers' Book Sale kicks off at the Southern Hills Mall According to a release, his paintings are inspired by the 'pastoral and industrial landscapes' of Iowa. Perfect realism, however, is not his goal. 'My interest is not to capture a faithful copy of what I see or to duplicate a photograph.' Albright says. 'I'm taking cues from various sources. Through the activity of painting, I use a process of abstracting, distilling, refining and even obliterating the image before me to bring the painting to its own life.' The May 1 reception will feature food and drink, as well as an artist talk in the Lecture Hall at 6 p.m. The exhibit will be on display until Sept. 14, 2025. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
