'Tactical situation' underway in Jeffersonville, police ask public to avoid area

Jeffersonville Police Department officers are responding to a "tactical situation" in the 3000 block of Callaway Drive, officials said in a post on social media. The situation has prompted the closure of eastbound Charlestown Pike at Clearstream Way. Westbound Charlestown Pike is also closed at Country Club Estates, officials said. Officials added that a "secondary related scene" is secured in the 1700 block of Summerlin Place. Police are asking the public to avoid both areas as the scene remains active. This story may update. Nebraska soccer dominates Southern Indiana 6-0 for season-opening win

The Nebraska soccer team opened up the 2025 season at home against Southern Indiana on Thursday night. The Huskers dominated the Screaming Eagles 6-0 for their largest season-opening win since 1996. Nebraska tallied 24 total shots with 11 on goal, while Southern Indiana fired just six shots with four on goal. The Huskers took the lead swiftly, scoring within the first two minutes of the match. After adding another goal in the first, Nebraska erupted in the second half, racking up four more goals to put the match away. Kayma Carpenter led the way, earning two goals, doubling her career total, off four total shots, two on goal. She started both halves for the Huskers' scoring and put the team in position to go on a run. Ella Rudney and Sadie Waite both kicked one goal off four total shots, three on goal in the win. Rudney scored her second career goal in the first half, while Waite scored her eighth career goal in the second half. Freshman Ellie Felt scored her first career goal off her lone shot of the match in the second half as well. Ava Makovicka also scored her first career goal in the win, earning her score off two shots. Redshirt freshman Maddy Osborn started the game at goalkeeper for the Huskers, playing in the first half. She faced one shot in the half and earned the save. Cece Villa took over in the second half, going 3-for-3 in shots face to earn three saves. The Huskers remain home for their next match and welcome Missouri State on Sunday afternoon. The match is set for 1:05 p.m. on B1G+. HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT)- In just over 48 hours, nearly 90 veterans will board a plane bound for Washington, D.C. as part of the latest Honor Flight of Southern Indiana. History through food: A look at the Robards Cookbook During their trip to the nation's capital, the veterans will visit their war memorials before returning to Evansville on Saturday night. Today, those veterans will gather at the C.K. Newsome Center for a meet and greet where they will receive their final marching orders, flight updates, and airport information before their trip. Upon the group's return from Washington, D.C., each veteran will receive dozens of pieces of mail, thanking them for their service. The public is also invited to the Evansville Regional Airport on Saturday evening to attend a welcome home parade, which will take place around 8 o'clock. LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Bellarmine's Chancellor Dugan has retired after winning more than 500 games in 34 seasons as a head coach. Dugan posted a 509-472 career record at three different schools. She went 159-73 at Southern Indiana from 1991-99, 161-217 at Florida Atlantic from 1999-2012 and 189-182 at Bellarmine from 2012-25. Advertisement She capped her college career by leading Bellarmine's transition into Division I. Bellarmine went 18-15 this season and won an Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament game for the first time in program history. Her Southern Indiana teams reached the NCAA Division II Tournament in 1995, 1997 and 1998. She then headed to the Division I ranks at Florida Atlantic and helped the Owls earn an NCAA Tournament berth in 2006. Bellarmine reached the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2016 and 2017 before starting its transition to Division I. ″Chancellor Dugan is another local coach who wanted to come home and make an impact in the community she grew up in, and she did just that with great energy and passion,' Bellarmine athletic director Scott Wiegandt said in a statement. 'Coach Dugan built a championship-caliber team in a short amount of time and returned it to the national stage in Division II. She was then steadfast in her commitment to seeing the D1 transition through and developing the program in the NCAA's highest level.
