Maine Turnpike traffic snarled for several hours after tractor-trailer crash in Arundel

May 3—A tractor-trailer crashed into a guardrail and caught fire along the Maine Turnpike in Arundel on Saturday morning, causing traffic delays that lingered into the afternoon. In a news release Saturday afternoon, Maine State Police spokesperson Shannon Moss said troopers responded to the wreck just before 8 a.m. near mile marker 30, between the Kennebunk and Biddeford exits, on Interstate 95 northbound. State police believe the driver "suffered a medical event" while driving the freight-laden truck; he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the median guardrail. The driver, whose name was not released, sustained minor injuries from the crash and was taken to MaineHealth Maine Medical Center Biddeford (formerly known as Southern Maine Medical Center) for treatment, Moss said. The left and middle lanes of I-95 northbound were closed for several hours Saturday, slowing traffic in the area, while crews cleared the scene. The crash is under investigation. State police were assisted at the scene by Wells and Kennebunk firefighters, the Maine Turnpike Authority and two towing companies.
