To70 Aviation wins contract to prepare Oman's aviation strategy

Netherland based aviation consultancy To70 Aviation has been awarded the contract to prepare Oman's National Aviation Strategy 2040. Nine companies had bid for the contract. The strategy aims to tap into the rising opportunities in the Middle Eastern air cargo market, boost efficiency through cohesive planning, optimise aviation assets and forge partnerships with the private sector for investments. In September 2023, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) unveiled the roadmap for National Aviation Strategy 2040 to succeed 2030 strategy, which was launched in February 2020. Oman's Asyad announces feasibility study for drydock expansion

Asyad, Oman's integrated logistics provider, has invited consultants to conduct a feasibility study with necessary engineering for the expansion of the Asyad Drydock located at the Port of Duqm. The study aims to evaluate the berth arrangement and dock options in terms of economic feasibility, revenue generation, environmental impact and operational efficiency, according to the tender invite. 19 May 2025 is the last date for tender collection and 27th May is the last bid submission date. Asyad Drydock's 600,000 DWT (deadweight tonnage) vessel handling capacity stands fully utilised. In 2023 Asyad Drydock (formerly Oman Drydock Company LLC - a subsidiary of Asyad Group) added a floating dock capable of handling 40 more vessels increasing its capacity by 20 percent. Asyad drydock is also eyeing industrial manufacturing opportunities linked to mega green hydrogen schemes. An assessment to study the opportunities has been included under the broader port readiness study currently under tender process. (Writing by Sowmya Sundar; Editing by Anoop Menon) (

Oman releases RFQs for third green hydrogen auction round

Hydrom, which is tasked with the development of green hydrogen industry in Oman, has released the RFQ (Request for Qualification) for the third green hydrogen auction round. The RFP (Request for Proposal) is expected to be sent out to qualified applicants by mid-June 2025, with bid submission scheduled for end January 2026 and award by the second quarter of 2026. Hydrom has made available 300 square kilometres (sq km) of land about 100 kilometres away from the Special Economic Zone of Duqm (SEZAD) for the third round of green hydrogen auctions. Developers can select their preferred site and land size within a defined 300 sq km block starting from a minimum of 100 sq km, a different approach from the fixed land allocation model followed in previous auctions. The minimum green hydrogen production expected for a 100 sq km land parcel is 50,000 tonnes per annum. Hydrom clarified that phased execution is not permitted within the awarded block and applicants can request additional lands for future expansions. 'The land lease will be available for 47 years from the project development and land sub-usufruct award, i.e 7 years for construction and 40 years for operation', said Rumaitha Al Busaidi, Business and ICV (In country value) Development manager. Hydrom will charge land fees for the used part once production begins apart from base royalties and upside fees. Corporate taxes will also apply, she clarified. It also reserves the 'back in right' to acquire a share in the project company. In a departure from previous auction rounds, Hydrom will explore the option to supply excess green electricity to the grid subject to regulatory approvals. The entity expects developers to set up projects for producing green hydrogen or derivatives for supply to local industries or exports. Hydrom will provide shared infrastructure to project companies which is currently in the pre-FEED stage. Final Investment Decision (FID) for the common use infrastructure is expected by 2027 and commissioning by 2030. The projects are expected to benefit from the development of a dedicated 2,000-kilometre hydrogen pipeline as well as the establishment of the world's first liquid hydrogen export corridor linking Oman to the Netherlands and Germany and onwards to Europe. Oman's has awarded eight large-scale green hydrogen projects in Duqm and Dhofar through two previous rounds, securing over $49 billion in investment commitments targeting a combined production capacity of over 1 million tonnes per annum of green hydrogen by 2030. These projects will be powered by more than 30 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy. (Reporting by Sowmya Sundar; Editing by Anoop Menon)

Oman invites proposals to conduct feasibility studies for developing geothermal energy

Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (NPWP), Oman's state-owned power and water procurer has invited request for proposals (RFPs) from consultants to study the prospects for developing the Hot Springs Geothermal Project. The selected bidder will be responsible to conduct a feasibility assessment of the geothermal energy potential in specific pre-identified locations within the area between Wilayat Fanja and Al Ansab (Wilayat Bousher) in the first phase. The study components include resource assessment, economic and environment feasibility and strategic development plan, according to a LinkedIn post by NAMA. Oman is exploring geothermal energy as a sustainable reliable energy source to complement solar and wind energy, enhance grid stability and strengthen Oman's energy mix, the post said. Tender documents are available until 6 May 2025 and 22 May 2025 is the submission date. (Writing by Sowmya Sundar; Editing by Anoop Menon) (

ACWA Power partners Malaysian firm to develop power and water projects in Malaysia

ACWA Power is partnering with Malaysian firm UEM LESTRA to conduct a feasibility study for developing independent water and power plant (IWPP) projects in Malaysia. The feasibility study, expected to take between six to 12 months, will explore the possibility of powering the IWPP facilities with combined cycle gas turbine solutions, ground mounted or floating large scale solar farms equipped with battery storage systems, or a combination of both, according to Linkedin posts by both companies. It will also look at desalination plants based on sea water reverse osmosis (SWRO) technology producing between 200,000 to 400,000 cubic metres per day (m3/day) targeted for industrial use. Last year, ACWA Power had expressed interest to invest $10 billion in renewable energy projects in Malaysia over the next 10 years. (Writing by Sowmya Sundar; Editing by Anoop Menon) (
