Boltgun — Words of Vengeance is Warhammer's grimdark answer to Typing of the Dead
Games Workshop, maker of the popular Warhammer 40K tabletop game, held its annual Warhammer Skulls festival today, and announced a slew of new video games, remasters and DLC for its properties. I've collected some of the more exciting announcements below. First, let's start with Space Marine 2 . In March, Games Workshop announced a sequel was already in development. At the time, the company said the new game was "likely years away from release," but it also reiterated post-launch support for Space Marine 2 would continue. Today we got an update on Space Marine 2's long awaited horde mode, called here Siege Mode. It will arrive as part of a free update slated for release on June 26. On June 10th, GW will release Space Marine — Master Crafted Edition . It's a remaster of the 2011 original developed by Relic Entertainment. The new version features updated textures and character models, with support for 4K resolutions, modernized controls and a refreshed user interface. If you've not played Space Marine , it's worth revisiting if only to hear Mark Strong voice protagonist Captain Titus. Master Crafted Edition arrives on June 10 on Xbox Series X/S and PC through Steam and GOG. Speaking of Relic, a remaster of the studio's excellent Dawn of War is also on the way. No word on an exact release date yet, but GW says Dawn of War – Definitive Edition will feature updated visuals, camera controls and a new HUD . The re-release will be compatible with mods for the existing game, and has a 64-bit code base to ensure it's playable on modern systems for years to come. For fans of boomer shooters, there's Boltgun game on the way. It will arrive in 2026, and it's coming to Steam, Xbox Series X/S and PS5. The new game will pick up right where the first game ended, with a new non-linear single player campaign that has new enemies for players to overcome. Of course, you'll also have access to new weapons with which to vanquish the Emperor's enemies in the most cartoonishly violent way possible. In the meantime, today you can download Boltgun — Words of Vengeance , a free typing action game that will have you spelling words and phrases from Warhammer lore like "thin your paints" and "Ghazghkull." You bet I'm downloading it right now. To view this content, you'll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here and view the "Content and social-media partners" setting to do so. Last but not least, Owlcat, creator of the CRPG Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous , is working on a sequel to the criminally underrated Rogue Trader . The new game is adaptation of GW's Dark Heresy RPG and casts the player as the leader of an Inquisition party. It looks like Owlcat has a bigger budget this time around, which is a great sign for the project. Rogue Trader had moments where it felt like if Owlcat had the time and resources that Larian did to work on Baldur's Gate 3, it would have been every bit as popular . Again, those are just some of the announcements Games Workshop made today, so be sure to check out the Warhammer Community website to get the full story.

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 3 Was Just Announced
Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 3 is in development. Saber Interactive confirmed the news with a press release and a somewhat silly teaser featuring the star of the last two games standing still in rain near the new game's logo. No release date or platforms were confirmed. On March 13, Saber Interactive announced that it was developing a sequel to the excellent third-person sci-fi shooter Space Marine 2. That game released just about six months ago, so this confirmation of a sequel is a bit surprising, especially as Space Marine 2 is still getting updates and new content. Here's the teaser, which features 16 seconds of rain, a logo, a very angry-looking Ultramarine Lt. Titus and uh, well, not much else. But hey, it's technically a trailer for Space Marine 3, I guess. 'Today, we are thrilled to announce that the adventure will continue with Space Marine 3,' said John Bert, deputy CEO of Focus Entertainment Publishing, in a press release posted on the publisher's website. 'Players can look forward to an immersive campaign, a multiplayer mode, and innovations that will redefine the standards of third-person action games. Developed in close collaboration with Games Workshop, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 will take the genre to new heights by introducing large-scale battles that are even more spectacular.' Saber CEO Matthew Karch confirmed in the new press release that the studio is 'now starting to develop' Space Marine 3. That means this new sequel is many years away, though fans probably won't have to wait as long as they did for Space Marine 2. That game, launched last year, came 13 years after the first Space Marine arrived back on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. As the studio develops Space Marine 3, Karch promised that the team will continue to 'support and grow' Space Marine 2 'over the coming years.' Later this year, Space Marine 2 is set to receive a new update that will add the much requested horde mode to the third-person shooter. The game is set to get a new enemy and weapon later this year as well. . For the latest news, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 Promises It's Not Going Full Live-Service Game After Latest Botched Event
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is very much not a live-service game. That's one of the things that felt so refreshing about the sci-fi shooter when players flocked to it last fall. But it felt eerily like one late last month when an in-game reward was locked behind a busted community event. 'We are not looking to transform Space Marine 2 into a full live-service game,' the developers said in a recent update. The event in question was called Imperial Vigil and went live on February 21 and ran through March 3. Players had to compete to earn victories with each of the game's six classes in operations mode to win the emblem-less Mark VIII Errant Helmet. Two things rubbed players the wrong way about this. The first was seemingly locking a cool in-game cosmetic behind a timed-event, leveraging FOMO (fear of missing out) to make fans play the game in an arbitrary way during an arbitrary time period. The second was that both the progress meter for the event and unlocking the cosmetic were busted. 'This is some of the worst implemented 'rewards' system I have ever seen! I played my 6 games of each class on ruthless yesterday, then play some regular lethals while I waited for it to update,' one player posted on the Space Marine subreddit early on during the event. 'Hours later it said 3/6 so I ran through all 6 again on substantial then went to bed. When I woke up it said 4/6 and now having run all 6 again it's still on 4/6! I have played a minimum of 21 games in the past 24 hours 18 of them focused on getting this damn helm!' reddit-thread-Spacemarine-1iwp8ae Many others were struggling too. The event had to be twice taken offline for fixes, narrowing the 10 day window for it even further. Plus, the whole appeal of Space Marine 2 is that it's not a game you have to constantly keep up with like a second job. In a world of Destinys, Apex Legendses, and Fortnites, it's one of the rare online multiplayer shooters where you can log on, have some fun, and then forget about it for a while. Unless you were trying to get the Mark VIII Errant Helmet or other recent event-gated cosmetics. 'We have noted that the Community Events have received cold feedback since we introduced them as an additional way to unlock cosmetic items,' Space Marine 2's developers at Saber Interactive wrote on February 28. 'We saw that many of you mentioned FOMO generated by the events. Rest assured, we are not looking to transform Space Marine 2 into a full live-service game.' The message continued: The items available through events WILL be available later, for everyone. We want Community Events to be a way to unlock the items in advance, for the most dedicated players, and not to be a source of frustration and stress for everyone. However, that means we must provide a smooth experience in unlocking said items, which has not been the case so far. We deeply apologize for the trouble, and are currently working on a simplified process to unlock the items, to make the experience less constraining. So in addition to having community events run more smoothly in the future, Saber also confirmed that their rewards will eventually be circulated into the game for everyone else regardless of whether they were around to participate in the original event or not. It's unclear if this was always the plan or only something the development team arrived at after the recent Imperial Vigil train wreck. But given the Live-Service Lite™ nature of Space Marine 2, players will be more eager to know when the game's next major content update and first story DLC will arrive. The developers also recently confirmed that a big 7.0 patch is on the way and teased what players can expect from Space Marine 2's long-awaited Horde mode. 'You're very eager to get more info on the Horde Mode, it's one of our top priorities right now,' they confirmed. 'One thing we can say is that it will be very different from the Space Marine 1 Horde Mode, and that there are surprises we can't wait for you to find out about.' .
