Abu Dhabi To Host 5th Spartan World Championship In November

The Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in partnership with Spartan, announced that the fifth Spartan World Championship will take place in Al Wathba Desert from 20 to 23 November 2025. The four-day championship will gather thousands of elite athletes and community participants for a series of endurance races across varying distances and obstacles, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM). The event will feature a series of obstacle races, including women only, mixed, elite, and kids' categories. Key races include the Beast 21K and the Elite Teams Championship. Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said the event promotes community engagement and strengthens Abu Dhabi's position as a global sports destination. On Saturday September 20, Etihad Arena will host the UAE's first-ever indoor Spartan 'City' race, transforming the iconic venue into an adrenaline-packed obstacle course designed for speed, intensity and accessibility. Think of it as Spartan, but reimagined for the urban athlete – and all happening within the climate-controlled walls of the Middle East's largest indoor arena (with just a touch of outdoor action to keep things wild). The 3km course comes loaded with 15 classic Spartan obstacles, testing your grip, grit and endurance – whether you're a seasoned Spartan or diving into your first-ever race. Open to anyone aged 14 and above, the City race format is ideal for individuals, fitness fanatics and corporate teams looking to shake up their Saturday. Younger warriors aren't left out either. Spartan Kids races will run alongside the main event, with age-based distances ranging from 1km to 3km, so the whole family can get in on the action. Every participant walks away with a medal, a T-shirt and a celebratory banana at the finish line – because yes, everyone has won their own race. Etihad Arena's world-class facilities and prime Yas Bay location make it a fab backdrop for the event – easy access, epic atmosphere and plenty of food and entertainment options to keep the energy high between heats. And with Abu Dhabi Sports Council backing the event, the capital continues to cement its place on the global Spartan map. 17 July 2025 13:24 ABU DHABI (WAM)The Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Spartan, the world's leading endurance and obstacle sports brand, announced that the fifth edition of the Spartan World Championship will be held in the Al Wathba Desert in Abu Dhabi from November of elite athletes and community members will participate in the four-day championship, testing their abilities in a true challenge of strength, endurance, and first day, Thursday, November 20, will feature an evening race open to women only, covering a distance of 5 km and featuring 20 obstacles. The same day will also witness a closed evening race for women, covering the same distance and obstacles. This allows participants to compete in complete privacy, with a fully female crew and without media Friday, November 21, a mixed evening Sprint 5K will be held over a distance of 5 km and featuring 20 obstacles. This event allows both men and women to overcome obstacles in one of the most challenging Spartan World Saturday, November 22, the Beast 21K World Championships for Elite, Age Groups, and Open will be held over a distance of 21 km and feature 30 obstacles. The same day, competitive Kids Races (1–3 km) will be fifth and highly anticipated Spartan World Championship will conclude on Sunday, November 23, with the Elite Teams World Championship (3 athletes, 2 males and 1 female), the Super 10K Open, and the Sprint 5K Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, emphasised that the upcoming edition of the Spartan World Championship will be exciting and challenging, building on the successes achieved by the championship in its past four explained that the upcoming edition will enhance community engagement by providing opportunities for people of all fitness levels to participate in a variety of races that meet the aspirations of all groups, in line with the objectives of the Year of the Community initiative, which seeks to engage everyone in inspiring and effective sporting Awani said, "Abu Dhabi's hosting of the championship for the fifth consecutive year embodies our ongoing commitment to spreading the culture of sports and a healthy lifestyle, and consolidating the capital's position as a global sports destination." For his part, Joe De Sena, founder of Spartan, emphasised that Abu Dhabi provides an ideal environment for challenge and endurance championships, explaining that the region is characterised by its unique natural desert terrain, which poses a significant challenge to participants. This makes it an ideal location to host one of the most exciting and challenging Spartan Championships.
