Some believe he's a superstar, while others aren't ready to call him that yet. His performance in Game 4 will push him even further towards the superstar category. Regardless of what anyone thinks of him, Haliburton is focused on one thing. He wants to bring a championship to Indiana. That is his only goal that far exceeds his personal numbers or some kind of "superstar" status the fans and media could give him. As of now, Haliburton and the Pacers need just five more wins this season to bring home the first NBA championship for the franchise. The journey is far from over, but it has been extremely special and a new superstar has officially been born. For more Indiana Pacers and general NBA news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

Former NFL Pro Bowler says one thing can prove 49ers QB Brock Purdy isn't overpaid

Former NFL Pro Bowler says one thing can prove 49ers QB Brock Purdy isn't overpaid After taking Trey Lance in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft and starting him for just two games in his rookie season, the San Francisco 49ers took a late-round flyer on Iowa State's Brock Purdy with the final pick in the 2022 NFL draft. Purdy ascended to the starting quarterback in his rookie seasons after Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo went down with injuries, and he led them to a 5-0 record. In 2023, Purdy was named the starter out of camp, led the 49ers to a 12-4 record and a Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Last year, Purdy saw a drop in production, completing just 65.9% of his passes for 3,864 yards, 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while bringing his team to a 6-9 record, which fell short of the playoffs. The 25-year-old became extension eligible this offseason, and San Francisco rewarded their quarterback with a massive five-year, $265 million extension that put him tied with the Detroit Lions' Jared Goff as the seventh-highest-paid quarterback in the NFL ($53 million annually). Purdy was already a lightning rod for conversation and hot takes, but this new contract has ramped up the discussion to the point where whether or not Purdy is worth the money is a national storyline. In fact, former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who trains with 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk in the offseason, spent some time dissecting the narrative in recent days. "If Brock Purdy takes the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl and they win it, then his contract is well worth it," Houshmandzadeh said on "Speak" on FOX Sports with Keyshawn Johnson, Paul Pierce and Joy Taylor. "Until he does that, he's overpaid." Purdy has brought his team to the brink of a Super Bowl once in just three years in the NFL and two as a full-time starter. No matter who's around him, players or coaches, that's an impressive feat. However, that's how the league works these days. If you're not winning a Super Bowl or the MVP, whether or not you're with the salary is up for debate. In 2025, Purdy will have an opportunity to prove some of his doubters wrong, and that's not something new, considering he was the first Mr. Irrelevant to start an NFL game at quarterback, and he's turned that into generational wealth.

Fox Sports' Joy Taylor tears into Aaron Rodgers for skipping Day 1 of Steelers OTAs

Fox Sports' Joy Taylor tears into Aaron Rodgers for skipping Day 1 of Steelers OTAs Unsurprisingly, Aaron Rodgers didn't sign with the Steelers by OTAs — and Fox Sports' Joy Taylor took exception to it. On Tuesday's episode of FS1's Speak, Taylor blasted Rodgers for skipping OTAs — and the Steelers for allowing this situation to play out the way it has: "Why? This is the Pittsburgh Steelers — they have six Lombardis. They're coached by a first-ballot Hall of Famer — Mike Tomlin, who's never had a losing season. And we're sitting around talking about 'Aaron Rodgers is not there on the first day of OTAs.' Mandatory or not — where is your pride? Where is your dignity? Where is your respect for the game? Where's your respect for this organization? Where's this organization's respect for the history that they have in this league?" Considering OTAs are voluntary — and that Rodgers hasn't signed with the Steelers — the argument falls a little flat, but her rant wasn't complete nonsense. Taylor hit the nail right on the head with the final piece of criticism directed at Pittsburgh. The pursuit of Rodgers has all but confirmed what the Steel City faithful have known for a long time — the Steelers have lost their way.

Paul Pierce rocks The Post's ‘Choke 2.0' back page on a T-shirt on FS1: ‘I'm a fan'

Paul Pierce loved The Post's Thursday back page so much that he donned a T-shirt featuring it. The former Celtics great and current FS1 personality sported a shirt with The Post's 'Choke 2.0' back page emblazoned on it during the latest episode of 'Speak' before handing them out to his fellow panelists on the show. The back page featured Tyrese Haliburton mimicking Reggie Miller's infamous choke gesture from the 1994 playoffs against the Knicks. 'As you can see, I have this for my New York [fans]. Hey, listen New York fans, don't get mad at me,' Pierce said while standing up and holding the shirt up for the camera. 'Don't get mad at me. This picture is from the New York Post.' 3 Paul Pierce seemingly loved The Post's back page. Pierce then expressed his fandom for 'The Best Sports In Town.' 'They sent this to me, and I was just like, alright, I like to read the New York Post. I'm a fan,' he said, not explaining who 'they' is. He then proceeded to hand out shirts to the three other members of the show. 3 The back page for May 22, 2025. The Knicks suffered a devastating loss to the Pacers in Game 1 on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden when they squandered a double-digit fourth-quarter lead. The loss felt like a throwback to Miller's classic postseason performances against the Knicks in the '90s, which were equally as haunting to fans of a certain age. Pierce hasn't been shy about who he is rooting for in the series, proclaiming after the Knicks defeated the Celtics in the second round that the 'Pacers are gonna pop ya'll,' referring to the New York squad. 3 Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers makes a choking gesture after he hits a jump shot with seconds left during the fourth quarter, forcing overtime. Jason Szenes / New York Post The NBA great wasn't the only person on FS1 basking in the Knicks' misery after Game 1. 'Breakfast Ball' co-host Danny Parkin wore a shirt with the Haliburton image on it during Thursday's show to troll fellow co-host, and former WFAN personality, Craig Carton. The Knicks will get a chance for revenge in Game 2 on Friday night.
