Farmagudi Shivaji Museum to open by April '26: Khaunte
Panaji: The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Digital Museum at Farmagudi, Ponda, costing Rs 125.6 crore, will open to the public by April 2026, said tourism minister Rohan Khaunte. The museum is being developed under the Centre's Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme. The museum is envisioned as a catalyst for local economic activity by supporting tourism services, generating employment for Goans, and providing a platform for local artisans and artists to showcase their work. It will host year-round public programmes, exhibitions, and cultural gatherings, drawing both residents and tourists, said the tourism department in a statement. Khaunte said that the project will boost hinterland tourism. The museum, covering 29,212sqm including the existing fort area, will be completed by March–April 2026.

Khandu lays base of Rs 750-Cr education infrastructure projects across Arunachal
Itanagar, May 30 (UNI) In a significant move towards transforming the educational landscape of Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday digitally laid the foundation stones for a series of infrastructure development projects worth Rs 750 crore under the Education Department. These projects will be executed by the Rural Works Department (RWD) during the financial year 2025–26. The projects include: Upgradation of 39 Government Higher Secondary Schools under the SASCI (Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment) scheme with an outlay of Rs 300 crore; Construction of 156 hostels and teachers' quarters across all districts under SASCI, costing Rs 322 crore; C/o 14 large-capacity hostels (120 beds each) under the DAJGUA (Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan) scheme at Rs 71.40 crore; 60 bachelor barracks in rural schools for Rs 9 crore; infrastructure development of Arunachal University, Pasighat with Rs 30 crore; and C/o 394 kitchen sheds-cum-stores under PM Poshan scheme with Rs 23.64 crore 'This (initiative) is in line with our commitment to successfully implement the Shikshit Arunachal 2029 Mission adopted by our government,' Khandu said. Under this Mission, he said, all infrastructural needs of government schools will be fulfilled while also making policy decisions to rejuvenate the education system of the state. Khandu reiterated that schools not functioning or with zero attendance will be closed, and the Inter-Village (IV) school model will be implemented to optimize resources and improve outcomes. 'Over the years, our focus on quantity diluted quality. With Mission Shikshit Arunachal, we aim to elevate the standard of education in the state to top-notch levels by 2029,' he revealed. Expressing confidence in Education Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona's leadership, Khandu said he is optimistic about achieving the Mission's targets on time. Congratulating the Education and Rural Works departments for undertaking this critical responsibility, he advised all officials of RWD to ensure quality and adhere strictly to project timelines. Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan to perform bhumi puja for ₹98 crore ‘Akhanda Godavari' project
Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan will perform bhumi puja for the Akhanda Godavari project, for which the Union Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned ₹98 crore under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI), in the first week of June in Rajamahendravaram City, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Tourism Kandula Durgesh said here on Monday (May 26). The mega tourism project is envisaged to beautify the Havelock Bridge across the river Godavari between Kovvuru and Rajamahendravaram. A glass walk and other attractions on the bridge are a few facilities proposed to be built on the bridge, which was commissioned in 1897 and abandoned by the Indian Railways. 'A tent city on an island, Bridge Lanka, at the Havelock bridge location, tourist attractions in the Kadiyam flower nurseries and Kovvur and Nidadavolu are part of the Akhanda Godavari project, which will be commissioned before the commencement of Godavari Pushkarams-2027,' Mr. Durgesh said in a press conference. All the ghats, primarily Pushkar Ghat, will also be renovated as part of the beautification component of the project.

Centre awaits Karnataka's nod for revised Bengaluru metro phase-2 costs
Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power, Manohar Lal, on Friday said the Central Government will consider the revised cost estimates for Bengaluru Metro Phase-2 only after the Karnataka State Cabinet approves the proposal and submits it formally to the Centre. According to a statement from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the review also covered issues related to infrastructure planning, water sustainability, and urban reforms. During the meeting, Manohar Lal was briefed on the current status of the metro network in the city. At present, Bengaluru has an operational metro network spanning approximately 75 km, while another 145 km is under active construction. Earlier this year, the Union Government had sanctioned the 45-km Phase-3 corridor, approving a budget of ₹15,600 crore. This proposed extension, covering 37 km, is estimated to cost ₹28,400 crore. However, the Minister clarified that the cost estimates for Phase-3A must undergo evaluation by an expert body before the Centre can take a decision. Directions for such an assessment have already been issued, he said. Approval for the project hinges on a formal response from the state government. 'Once the proposal is cleared by the State Cabinet and reaches us, we will initiate the process of sanctioning,' the Minister added. Besides metro expansion, Manohar Lal also stressed the urgent need to tackle legacy waste and promote sustainable urban practices. He underscored the importance of reusing treated wastewater to address the rising demand for fresh water in cities. In a push for sustainable urban planning, he advocated for increased Floor Area Ratio (FAR) along public transit corridors. Allowing higher FAR, he said, would promote denser development around mass transit hubs, reduce traffic congestion, and boost public transport usage. The Minister also encouraged the Karnataka government to implement necessary reforms to become eligible for the Centre's 'Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SSASCI)' scheme for 2025-26. Under this initiative, states can avail of a 50-year, interest-free loan for capital investments beyond existing central schemes. It may be recalled that the Union Cabinet had already approved two key segments of Phase-2 in 2021 — Phase 2A (Central Silk Board to K.R. Puram) and Phase 2B (K.R. Puram to Kempegowda International Airport via Hebbal), which together span 58.19 km. These segments are being implemented at a combined cost of ₹14,788 crore. Once completed, these projects are expected to significantly expand Bengaluru's public transport capacity, offering a vital solution to the city's mounting traffic and connectivity issues.
