Over 2.3 lakh to cast votes in Nilambur
Kozhikode: Over 2.3 lakh voters will vote in Nilambur byelection on June 19, said collector VR Vinod on Wednesday. He told the media that the final voter list has 1,13,613 men, 1,18,760 women and eight transgender voters.
There are 7,787 first-time voters, 373 overseas voters and 324 service voters.
In the area, 2,302 people with disabilities and 1,370 seniors over 85 can vote from home. Till date, 316 disabled and 938 seniors have applied. Home voting started on Monday for 1,254 approved voters and will continue until June 16.
A total of 263 polling stations, including 59 new ones, will be set up for the byelection. Three booths are in tribal forest areas.
Eleven booths in seven regions are seen as potentially problematic and 14, including three forest booths, are marked critical with extra security. All stations will have webcasting.
There are 1,301 polling staff: 316 presiding officers, 975 polling workers and 10 micro observers.
District police chief R Viswanadh said around 1,200 police personnel will be deployed, including one CISF and one AP battalion company.
Special security measures under the Centre's 'Special Bandobast Scheme' are in place for Maoist-affected and sensitive areas.
Polling will be held on June 19 and counting on June 23.
