Aldi opens one of its biggest stores in Wales

One of the biggest Aldi stores in Wales has opened its doors. Aldi says it is opening an average of one new supermarket a week for the rest of 2025 as it ramps up its expansion programme. The openings form part of a £650 investment into its store estate this year. This will also see 35 of its supermarkets undergo refurbishments before the end of the year. The expansion push saw the brand open up a new supermarket on Deeside this week, with Team GB diving hero Lois Toulson cutting the ribbon. The Airfields store is 21,000 sq ft and will be run by Store Manager Spencer Kearney, along with a team of 27 staff. Jonathan Neale, Aldi UK managing director of national real estate, said: 'At Aldi, our goal is to make sure people across the UK have access to affordable, high-quality food, and opening new stores is key to making that happen. We're now opening an average of one new store a week for the rest of 2025, showing just how ambitious our plans are to build a store network that will help us reach millions of new customers." I'm also thrilled that we've been able to support a local primary school through our partnership with Team GB.' Team GB star Lois Toulson said: 'I've had a fantastic time opening the new Aldi this morning. It was an honour to officially open the store and welcome customers inside for the first time." The new Aldi store offers large chillers and freezers dedicated to fresh, Welsh meat products, a 'Food to Go' section at the front of the store, and a section full of health and beauty products. Additionally, the new Aldi store is calling on local charities and food banks in Deeside to register with Neighbourly, a community engagement platform that links businesses to charitable organisations in the local community. Local charities that register will be able to collect surplus food and perishable products, such as fruit, vegetables and baked goods, seven days a week. Any charities in the area that would like to partner up with the new Aldi store should email aldi@ The new store on Welsh Road open is open 8am to 10pm from Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
