Delays warning as major Leicestershire route set to close for more than two months
Drivers are being warned that one of the major routes through Leicestershire is set to be interrupted by two months' worth of roadworks. National Highways have warned of diversions and potential disruption. The work, which begins later this month, will stretch Junction 14 of the A42 to Junction 23A of the M1 at Castle Donington's Donington Services. The A42 and slip roads will be closed while the work is carried out, while lanes on the M1 and A453 will also be closed. The work is due to be completed by the end of April. National Highways said the work involve "essential electrical works". This will see National Highways teams replace street lights, signs, feeder pillars, cables, ducting, road crossing, and cables, and removing overgrown vegetation. READ MORE: Police issue Spice Girls-themed warning amid school parking crackdown The closures, which will begin on Wednesday, February 26, will be in place between 9pm and 5am, Monday to Friday, while the work is being carried out. Diversion routes will be clearly signposted. Heavy goods vehicles will not be granted access during restricted times and will need to follow the diversions in place. All roads will be open as usual during the day. A42 northbound: Leave the A42 at junction 14 and proceed along the A453. Turn right onto the A453 and continue past the airport to Finger Farm Roundabout.
