Greeneville native Ja'Kobi Gillespie commits to Tennessee after helping Maryland to Sweet 16
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Tennessee Basketball picked up its first commitment out of the portal for the 2025-26 season. Maryland transfer Ja'Kobi Gillespie announced on his Instagram that he has committed to the Vols.
Gillispie spent one season at Maryland, averaging 14.7 points per game and 4.8 assists as the Terrapins made their first Sweet 16 appearance since 2016. The Greeneville, Tennessee native is an elite 3-point shooter. He made 87 triples on 40.7% percent shooting.

Before Maryland, Gillispie spent two seasons at Belmont. He broke out during his sophomore season averaging 17.2 points per game and led the Missouri Valley Conference with 2.2 steals.
In 2021 and 2022, Gillespie led the Greene Devils to back-to-back state championships. In his senior year, he was named 2022 Tennessee 3A Mr. Basketball.
