Pemberton to ‘reimagine Canada Day' with spud run, parade and downtown party

Pemberton is inviting residents and visitors to 'reimagine Canada Day' on July 1 with a morning of family-friendly events, starting with the return of the Spud Run at 8:30 a.m. The free eight-kilometre trail run is a mostly flat, out-and-back trek through the northern half of the Pemberton Valley Loop. Each participant will be rewarded with a voucher for a one-pound bag of Helmer's potatoes, available for pickup in late July/early August. Registration is open online or on-site, with runners meeting at the front of the Pemberton & District Community Centre (PDCC) at 8 a.m. for an 8:30 start. The celebrations continue at 10:30 a.m. with a community parade. The 'Weaving Together the Fabric of Our Community' parade will begin at the PDCC and end at the Downtown Community Barn, where the main festivities will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There, attendees can enjoy live music from Austin Ross and the Spiritual Warriors, free cupcakes, crafts, games, and food vendors including Blissful Bites, Sargent Poppers, and Curry Bob's. Organizers are encouraging everyone to bring their friends, families and community spirit to join the celebration. Parade float entries can be submitted by emailing pemrecinfo@ . Error! Intertidal Music Festival returns to Port Edward, B.C. this July after six-year hiatus

The formerly popular Intertidal Music Festival is back in Port Edward for the first time since 2018 and will run from July 18 to 20. 'Hosted at the North Pacific Cannery – a National Historic Site and the last remaining intact salmon cannery on the Pacific Coast – the festival will take place in a setting rich in history,' said Port Edward mayor Knut Bjorndal. Built in 1889, the cannery still contains much of its original equipment, offering an authentic historical backdrop for the event. 'The event is expected to draw visitors from across the Northwest, providing a valuable opportunity to showcase the distinct character and beauty of both Port Edward and Prince Rupert,' said the mayor. The fest will showcase more than 20 bands and artists of various genres from the Pacific Northwest and beyond on three vibrant stages. This includes the renowned Canadian rock band 'Current Swell', the dynamic 'Spiritual Warriors', 'The Rats', and 'Triple Bypass'. Additional performers include 'Infectious', 'Sustain', 'Kate Pike and the Loose Boots', 'Somber Seas', 'Men Who Listen', 'The Swells', 'JJ Sway', 'Rabbit Soup', and many more. Bjorndal says that the Port Edward Historical Society and the District of Port Edward are thrilled to support the efforts of Tourism Prince Rupert in organizing the event. 'The intertidal Music festival highlights the culture and natural richness of the region and offers increased exposure to everything it has to offer. We hope to see this continue as an annual tradition.'
