New Look's 'polished' £35 dress resembles 'striking' £1k Jacquemus version
The retailer could have just introduced another crowd-pleaser for shoppers looking for summer dresses
New Look has introduced a denim dress that's drawing comparisons to a designer piece. The high-street favourite, regularly frequented by shoppers in search of summer outfits, may have just added another hit to its collection.
The brand's Navy Stretch Denim Square Neck Bodycon Midi Dress looks similar to a style by the designer brand Jacquemus. Yet, the New Look dress is fraction of the cost.
Priced at £34.99, the dress is more affordable than The de-Nîmes Spoglio denim dress, currently listed for £1,135 on Farfetch. Jacquemus has the style on offer, currently listed for £525 from £745, and Flannels has listed the dress for £599 from £745, but again, New Look's version remains the most wallet-friendly option.
The two dresses share a similar aesthetic, featuring a similar denim look and form-fitting design complete with a square neckline, shoulder straps, and a slit at the back. It should be noted, however, that there are differences in length; New Look's version is a midi dress, while the designer's is a maxi dress, reports the Mirror.
Moreover, New Look's dress is composed of 53% cotton, 27% polyester, 18% viscose, and 2% elastane, while the designer counterpart is made entirely of cotton.
The product description for the New Look dress states: "This denim dress offers a sleek silhouette that's perfect for both casual and polished looks." The product description for the Jacquemus dress states: "Effortlessly elevate your wardrobe staples with the Spoglio Maxi Dress from Jacquemus.
"Meticulously crafted in Italy from the finest raw indigo denim and embellished with traditional tobacco stitching, this striking women's maxi dress is perfect for fashion forward events, brunch with friends or a romantic dinner with a loved one."
Of course, there are other options for shoppers searching for a similar style. Bershka's £35.99 Long denim dress with straps might be considered a lookalike.
Elsewhere, French Connection has discounted its Textured Square Neck Midi Dress from £59 to £24, or there's ASOS's £45 chambray denim maxi dress with cinch waist seams in mid blue.
Shoppers still keen on New Look's dress will likely be pleased by the reviews. One happy customer commented: "Stylish summer dress. Lovely dress, nice length and great fit due to stretch in fabric lovely for summer."
A second said: "Fabulous dress - love love it!" However, the dress has only received two reviews to date, and it's worth noting that some of New Look's Trustpilot reviews are negative.
One person claimed: "Not sure what is going on with New Look but quality and sizing have declined and price gone up.
"I buy from both the tall and regular section. I'm telling you the tall is actually regular. I ordered 3 tall denim dresses. Nearly £30 each for the thinnest material ever certainly not denim.
"All sizes totally off 18 just fit but not usual my 14 to 16. Dress barely covered my bottom." Another complained: "Picked up my order this week. Normally I'd try on in the shop but there was a queue so no bother.
"The dress came sealed in a bag totally screwed up and inside out! It's a dressy dress, I'd expect it to be packed as such. I've had to spend extra time steaming out the 1,000 creases. Feels like I bought second hand. I doubt I will buy online again."
