Soundgarden gets inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
Soundgarden has finally made it into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Why it matters: The band, a pioneer in Seattle's grunge scene, was one of seven acts inducted into the Rock Hall Sunday night in the performer category.
Seven other acts were nominated but fell short — much like Soundgarden did in 2020 and 2023, when the group received a nod but didn't make the final cut.
Catch up quick: The band — formerly headed by the late Chris Cornell — is known for tracks including " Black Hole Sun," " Rusty Cage," " Spoonman," " Outshined" and " Fell on Black Days."
The group formed in Seattle in the 1980s.
What they're saying: "Soundgarden's foray into the mainstream paved the way for Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and other grunge bands," the Rock Hall wrote when nominating Soundgarden.
"The groundwork they laid for countless hard rock and metal bands was essential, and their influence and legacy continue to resonate across generations."
The big picture: The six other acts inducted in the performer category last night were Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast and The White Stripes.
A handful of other acts received different honors, including Salt-N-Pepa, which snagged a musical influence award.
