Florida Gators center Jake Slaughter named to 2025 Lombardi Award preseason watch list

Florida football's redshirt senior center Jake Slaughter earned yet another preseason accolade on Tuesday, marking his third such honor ahead of the 2025 campaign. This time, the trench warrior out of Sparr, Florida, was named to the prestigious Lombardi Trophy watch list, which keeps tabs on the nation's best linemen — regardless of whether on offense or defense. Slaugher has also been mentioned on the Rimington Trophy and Outland Trophy watch lists, as well as being named to the Sporting News' and ESPN's preseason All-America First Teams. The watch list will be narrowed down to a group of 12 semifinalists in early November and then to a group of four finalists in late November. The winner of the award will be named on Tuesday, Dec. 9. Jake Slaughter's 2024 stats Slaughter started all 13 games in 2024, amassing a mountain of awards, including the AP All-SEC First-Team, ESPN All-American, PFF All-American First-Team, 247Sports/CBS All-American Second-Team, CFN All-American Second-Team, Phil Steel All-American Fourth-Team and USA TODAY Sports All-SEC First-Team. He was ranked fifth nationally among centers last year with an offense grade of 81.1, while ranking seventh in the country with a run block grade of 79.0. He also led the team in PFF offense, pass-block and run-block grades, as well as the offensive line as a whole in 800 snaps played. About the Lombardi Award The history and significance of the Lombardi Award are deeply rooted in the legacy of Coach Vince Lombardi and his commitment to character, discipline, and excellence. Just weeks after Coach Vince Lombardi's passing in 1970 due to colon cancer, the Rotary Club of Houston established the Lombardi Award with the authorization of Vince Lombardi's widow, Marie, and his sister, Madeline Lombardi Werner. This prestigious accolade continues to honor the Outstanding College Football Lineman, whether on offense or defense, who displays exceptional performance and ability and embodies the character and discipline that Vince Lombardi championed throughout his life.
