Iowa women's basketball offers top-5, 2028 wing recruit

As Iowa women's basketball continues its relentless recruiting search for the next great names to don the black and gold, the Hawkeyes made another bold move by extending an offer to top-five, 2028 wing prospect Ella Peper on Thursday. Peper, a 6-foot-4 native of Brookline, Massachusetts, plays on both Dexter Southfield High School's varsity squad and for the independent Bay State Jaguars AAU program. While it is a bit too early for most recruiting sites to hand out concrete rankings for the 2028 class, Peper lists as the No. 4 overall prospect per ESPN's 2028 SportsCenter NEXT - Terrific 25. Following her performance during the USA Women's Basketball U16 National Team trials in late May, which featured 52 total prospects spanning the 2026 to 2029 recruiting classes, 247Sports' Brandon Clay described Peper's game as that of a player with a desirable hybrid forward skillset and a potential that will only rise with increased experience. While Iowa's winning pedigree in recent years should be a significant attraction for the talented wing, Peper also has notable offers from premier women's college basketball programs, including UCLA, LSU, TCU, Tennessee, and Maryland. The Hawkeyes hope their success in the talent-loaded Big Ten and on the national stage will pique the interest of Peper even more as her recruitment progresses over the next year or so. USA TODAY's No. 1 ranked girls basketball recruit Aaliyah Chavez drops 50 in playoff game

Aaliyah Chavez was recognized as the No. 1 girls basketball recruit in the country this week when USA Today High School Sports released its 2025 class rankings. She immediately proved again why. Aaliyah Chavez (No. 1 espnW 💯) delivered and WENT OFF for 50 PTS to help Monterey advance to the Region 1 Championship in Texas. 🚨👀 @montereyGBB I @AALIYAH2CHAVEZ — SportsCenter NEXT (@SCNext) February 19, 2025 The Lubbock Monterey superstar racked up 50 points on Tuesday in a playoffs win over Fort Worth Brewer. The performance came nine days after she dropped 45 points on El Paso Burges. Chavez is averaging 35.7 points per game and has scored 50 or more three time this season. She is still undecided and even the big recruiting websites don't have a clear sense of which way she might be leaning. She recently visited Texas, and the Longhorns are listed as one of the favorites, along with LSU, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas Tech and UCLA. It'll be huge news when she makes her decision, as Chavez has got future WNBA all-star written all over her.
