Punjab to develop wide ranging sports infrastructure
LAHORE: As many as 175 new schemes for sports department will be launched under the ADP 2025-26. Under the schemes, the Nishtar Park Sports Complex will undergo major up-gradation, while new facilities including an Archery Sports Complex, Table Tennis Arena, and Board Games Sports Complex will be constructed. The Velodrome will be fully restored and spectator capacity at Punjab Stadium will also be increased. Baseball Sports Complex will be constructed in Lahore, while Paddle Tennis Courts will be developed in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Sialkot. Volleyball Courts and Indoor Sports Complexes will also be established. Sports stadiums in Jampur and Rajanpur will be rehabilitated and sports complexes in Chichawatni and Dera Ghazi Khan will also be constructed. The Bahawalpur Stadium will also be upgraded. Punjab Minister for Sports, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar held a meeting, here Monday in which decisions regarding the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2025-26 and other key projects were taken. Addressing the meeting, the minister emphasized that new hockey turfs will be laid in Sahiwal and various other cities. He reiterated that the vision of the Chief Minister Punjab is to promote sports across the province, and that the Sports Department is working tirelessly to fulfil this goal. Tim Lammers WTIC - WTIC Tim Lammers has changed time slots at the Hartford, Connecticut Fox affiliate WTIC. The former morning anchor can now be seen at 5 p.m. on weekdays. Lammers missed time from the station last year after undergoing hip replacement surgery, the result of a rare degenerative bone disease called vascular necrosis or AVN. He joined the station in 2002 as a sports producer and has filled the roles of anchor, reporter, producer and videographer in the Sports Department, as well as being a news feature and health Reporter.

CM Siddaramaiah holds emergency meeting as Karnataka team rushes to J&K
BENGALURU: The Karnataka government has sent a team of senior officials, including police officers, to Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, where a dastardly attack by terrorists on tourists claimed 28 lives. A tourist from Shivamogga was among those killed. On Tuesday evening, CM Siddaramaiah convened an emergency meeting with top officials to take steps to ensure the safe return of the remaining tourists from Karnataka in Jammu and Kashmir. 'We are closely monitoring the developments. All necessary support will be extended. Please be assured, the Government of Karnataka stands firmly with those affected,' Siddaramaiah said, strongly condemning the heinous terror attack on tourists. 'Kannadigas are among the victims. Upon receiving the news, I convened an emergency meeting and reviewed the situation with the chief secretary and senior police officials. I have also spoken to the Resident Commissioner in Delhi. Two teams—one of senior officers and another of police personnel - have been dispatched to J&K. A team from the Sports Department, led by Commissioner Chetan, is in Kashmir,' he said. Chetan R is an IPS officer from Karnataka. Condemning the terror act, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that he is deeply anguished by the terror attack on tourists. 'The Karnataka government has swiftly deployed a team of police officers to assist, ensure the safe return of those stranded, and bring back the mortal remains of the deceased tourist from Shivamogga. My heartfelt condolences to all those affected. We stand with them in this hour of grief. This attack on innocent civilians is an act of cowardice and highly condemnable,' Shivakumar said. Meanwhile, BJP MP from Bengaluru South and BJP Yuva Morcha national president Tejasvi Surya, who was in Kashmir to attend a Public Accounts Committee meeting, is also coordinating. He has spoken to the IG, DIG South Kashmir, and DC Anantnag and is in constant touch with the Lieutenant Governor's office to provide all support. 'The Government of India and all agencies here are extending every possible help to all affected by the unfortunate attack,' Surya said. Speaking to The New Indian Express, Surya said that he was in Srinagar at the time of the attack. 'The incident happened on a hilltop. Tourists have been evacuated and are kept in a hotel, where lodging and food are arranged by local authorities. The deceased are being airlifted. I have spoken to Karnataka Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh. I will remain here till all of them are sent back to their respective places,' the MP said. Meanwhile, Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy condemned the terror act, saying that terrorism will never subdue India. 'India has the strength to fight against such destructive forces,' he said. Expressing anguish, Union minister Pralhad Joshi said that he is deeply devastated by the terror attack. 'Terrorism will never succeed in breaking our spirit. Our resolve to fight against such evil only grows stronger. Prayers for the victims and strength to their families in this difficult hour. Perpetrators will be brought to justice,' Joshi said. Labour Minister Santosh Lad has been put in charge of the safe return of Kannadigas stranded in Pahalgam.

As per reports, Siddaramaiah's move came after reports emerged that Karnataka-origin tourists were killed and injured in the attack on tourists in Kashmir. He assured the people that the government was monitoring the issue and was willing to extend all the necessary support required. 'I have also spoken to the Resident Commissioner in Delhi. Following my directions, two teams -- one of senior officers and another of police personnel -- have been dispatched to J&K. A group of terrorists belonging to the Resistance Front (TRF), a Lashkar-e-Taiba offshoot, killed 26 tourists, including two foreigners and two locals and injured 20 people in the Baisaran valley of Pahalgam, South Kashmir. According to the local police, cited by the news agency, the terror attack happened around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22. After the incident, security was beefed up in Pahalgam, and forces rushed to cordon off the area. According to a post on the social media platform X, the Anantnag police announced the launch of a tourist helpdesk in the aftermath of Tuesday's terrorist attack, which injured several people in Pahalgam. ‘I told them to shoot me too': Karnataka woman recounts husband's killing in Kashmir terror attack
A family vacation to Kashmir turned into a tragedy for a couple from Shivamogga, Karnataka, after businessman Manjunath Rao was gunned down by terrorists in Pahalgam on Tuesday. His wife Pallavi, who witnessed the horrifying moment, is still reeling from the trauma. Speaking to Deccan Herald from a hospital bed in Pahalgam, Pallavi shared the moments that shattered her world. 'We came to Kashmir on April 19 for a tour. It was such a beautiful place, and we were enjoying every bit of it,' she recalled. 'My son felt hungry, so Manjunath went to buy him some snacks. That's when we heard gunfire.' 'We thought maybe the police were conducting some kind of firing test. But then I saw my husband…lying in a pool of blood,' she said, her voice breaking. 'People around us started screaming and running, 'Bhago! Bhago!' I couldn't believe what was happening.' Pallavi said she confronted the terrorist. 'I told them to shoot me too. One of them replied, 'Modi ji ko batao (Go tell Modi).' I don't have words to describe this pain,' she said according to the publication. The family resides in the Vijayanagar-Gopala area of Shivamogga, the report further added. Reacting to the incident, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said he had held an emergency meeting with senior state officials and dispatched multiple teams to Jammu and Kashmir to coordinate response efforts. The CM's response came after it was reported that Tourists from Karnataka had been injured in the attack.
